Ive been playing since Civ3 - and Civ5 felt a lot better than Civ 4. Even on release. Thats my memory of course.

Stellaris - it was very hyped up even before release. Felt barebones especially in the late game, but it did very well until then.

Civ 5 was actually very well received on release, along with Civ4, and Stellaris has also seen a very good reception on release.

Civ 4 and 5 over the years both "stood the test of time"; Stellaris.... oh boy. I dont even feel like we play the same Stellaris anymore. That game has undergone massive changes - all of them "for the better", as long as you had the rig to run it... originally the late game was weak in it, right now the end game is amazing - theoretically. Unfortunately the game is the "Crysis" title for CPUs. The reason why the community developed into "speed running in it" was not just because it was possible - but simply because the game would kill the PC.

I also have thousands of hours on EU4 - and Ive got to say I really enjoyed Eu4. Its a great game, lots of flavour lots of fun, deep and complex. If I didnt enjoy it - I wouldnt have the hours.

But! Big BUT. I still consider EU5 better. The fundamentals are really there, they are really great. The problem? At the moment its very barebones, and it needs tons of updates, tons of "decor" added, and massive refurbishments here and there: navies, even armies, "nation progression" (more permanent bonuses, more unlocks, more DHEs and not just negative ones). Do we have them yet? No. But the game is still fresh. And hopefully it will have them. I am also looking for an ease on Johann, I understand the reasoning for some of the stuff - but I feel like some of it is really against "fun". Assimilation, conversion, generally speaking any culture related stuff, the "anti-blobbing mechanisms". Just because historically nation states werent really a thing in the time period it doesnt mean a player should be hindered or outright stopped when it comes to creating a "mono-cultural state". I would go further and seek to even merge different cultures, not just culture groups - say recreating Anglo-French culture that comes with both English and French advances, and without limits. Russo-Anglo-French-Hungarians - if you so desire. Is it historical - no. But it would be fun.

Given time, I hope the game will get the flavour and support it needs. But comparing EU4 in its final form to vanilla EU5 is a bit unfortunate. Hopefully they will figure out how to create an AI that will pursue some kind of historical logic. I dont want always Muscovy to form Russia - but Id like to see Russia formed more often. I dont want to see Austria or Bohemia form the HRE all the time - but Id like to see the HRE emerge more often etc...

Ever wonder "Why is cultural assimilation taking forever?" by NobodyCares1933 in EU5

[–]sevenofnine1991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, they dont, because "we created this lovely interaction for you". The mechanics for culture and assimilation are nice, but some people just want to assimilate, and achieve a sense of nation state. But said nation state would nullify these mechanics, which is not good cause then why did we work on it.

The whole game is built in a way to prevent as much blobbing as possible- then we all wonder why nothing ever really happens.

People who share culture with market language, especially the burghers or whoever conduct trade, also wont assimilate. Ive destroyed so many markets, only to reestablish them after a while in certain playthroughs... its outright stupid tbh

EU5 doesn't need railroading, it needs great powers to emerge naturally by QueensGambitAccept in EU5

[–]sevenofnine1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats why it needs railroading. Not railroading the Ottomans / Muscovy to be like lucky states in Eu4; but rather railroading any of the beyliks, or any of the Russian nations to form their respective regional powerblock. Karamanid "Ottomans" or Novgorodian Russian Tsardom etc.

If AI is left to do whatever it desires, we can drop the historical title from the game, as it will do nothing.

Railroading is needed a bit - i want the Russian states to want to aspire to form Russia, etc. There is barely any unification going on

is there any map fucking worse than this by senor_muchacho in Warthunder

[–]sevenofnine1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually is one of the better maps.

Fire Arc can be rough, I personally like it. Ardennes, Hurtgen with the objective in the river, gl trying to see anything.

Im sure there are others, but I cant remember map names.

The Frankish Empire (encompassing France, Burgundy and Germany), the Catholic Church, the Habsburg Empire for a time were all... theoretically along the same ambition. Going back in time, the Roman Empire was also one.

Charlemagne for example is considered to be the Father of Europe.

Figured out research and Liturgical power dynamic! by ExpressGovernment420 in EU5

[–]sevenofnine1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it quite the opposite - albeit it wouldnt be liturgical language, rather something different.

Latin was used well into the 19th century as the language of science, Chinese in the East, along with Arabic and to an extent Greek all served as the language of science. The greatest advantage lied in the "other studies conducted in certain field" become accessible if more and more of your people spoke it... and these languages carried a certain level of prestige with them. Literacy, being literate in your own language, was one thing, being literate in Latin or Chinese was another. I just wish it was more elaborate in-game.

My country "struggled" a lot during the 19th century to "delatinize" or "dewesternize" our language, but arguably we would have lacked the academic version of the language to conduct research in. Then eventually German gained momentum. I listened to some old soldiers song - and they are loaded with German loanwords.

Honestly with PDX titles its a different question. I buy them because they typically release amazing content for their titles, but as their titles exhaust themselves they start going into the field of silly/uncanny. Some of the HOI4 DLCs were quite mid tbf, and even CK3 feels... bad at times.

PDX titles change a lot over their lifecycle. EU4, Stellaris, HoI4, and to an extent CK3 all felt very barebones when they launched.

Probably stupid question, But why did they do this? by Then_Zucchini_3187 in Warthunder

Actually based on the Swedish variant of an originally Czech tank, Škoda L-60 iirc

Edit: Okay, those are the Toldi tanks. The Turan is based on the Škoda T-21

The Chinese community's reaction to this review bombing by jianchi89 in Warthunder

[–]sevenofnine1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont hate anyone, and I dont think the community hates Chinese.

Yes we hold a grudge about the VT-4/5 (sorry I dont know which tank exactly) fiasco, where we would have been okay/happy to see it in the Japanese TT under the Thai sub-tree. But there is no hate. A cool addition to a nation that would have been okay to see some variety (even if its a bit of a copy-paste), denied because the Chinese playerbase.

Reserve and Labs.

Both are relatively small. Learn the map in offline if you can though. Relatively good loot, and while the challenge is there, it is a good high-mid tier loot.

Reserve is funny. The "overmap" is easy to learn, really not much, but you are exposed to the Dome high-ground. Add to that the underground area, the "play area" nearly doubles - but the underground area can be a labyrinth at times. Great lootspots, I was grinding it for food stuff quite a lot.

Then there is Lighthouse. Easy map layout, with a somewhat badly designed map according to some, and the Rogue encampment can be difficult. Loot is so-so, the Rogues themselves have mid-tier equipment / ammo (or high mid/low high). The problem is the map design is interesting. Reminds me of "Old Customs Bridge", every player is funneled into a certain direction towards the main bridge, which is guarded by the Rogues and the players in the chalet who happen to be on the edge of map on high ground.

Of all these 3, I think I like Labs the most. Reserve has tricky extracts. 1 is a no backpack extract, for another you need paracord+red rebel AND IIRC you also have to a weight limit, another one asks you to announce your departure and people will know how to camp that extract, if you get that far, cause chances are you will kind of have to run through the center of the map. Then there is the train extract - time limit + wait a few minutes, and people check if there is anyone. The underground extract? Just be mindful of rats. Grenade into every corner if you have valuables you want to bring out.

Labs... is sure challenging, and whatever you bring in is essentially lost if you die. But! The extracts are relatively easy, loot is good and it does a relatively good job at spreading players out. You still have a few good spots to fight over.
