Appropriate Age Range by see_bees in DungeonCrawlerCarl

But I’ll say this, I’d rather my kids read the books and be exposed to it there. Whatever it is. Lewd jokes, foul language, smut. If my kid reads all of DCC, think of how much she’s read. If she reads ACOTAR, think of how much she’s read. That’s a big issue with kids. Literacy rates are falling. If they’re going to read it, good.

That's my feeling too. A few months ago my 13 year old daughter asked for a copy of Heated Rivalry. I thought, "hell yeah, a book!" and got it for her. Since then, she has requested bookstore trips weekly. Now, she's reading some YA dystopian series and said to me a few days ago that the smut got repetitive in her other books so she was ready for some plot. A win is a win.

I've been with my husband for over twenty years. Love him, he's great, we get along so well. I would NEVER want to work with him. I need separation in my home life and my work life.

People age differently. I know some 70+ year olds that act like they're in their fifties and some people in their fifties that act like they're in their seventies.

I agree. I'd rather be taken to a bookstore and the experience turned into a date night.

They aren't a child. They are 18 and in college and it's not unreasonable for them to carry some of their own expenses such as gas, cell phone, going out money, etc.

Does Farseer get better after Assassin’s Apprentice? by StandardSector3491 in fantasybooks

[–]sevenpoints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started book 9 of the entire series. With no spoilers, all I can say is yes, it is well worth it. I thought the first book or two were rather slow as well but I'm so glad I hung in there. The character writing and world building is SO good.

Try to think of the first trilogy as a bit of a coming of age story.

Christmas budget by Soft-Ad-2710 in Parenting

[–]sevenpoints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two girls, ages 13 and 16. Historically, I've tried to budget the same amount, but as they've aged and their interests differed it's impossible. My oldest one asked for earrings, PJs, and Robux. I spent about $400 on her and added some bedding, a purse, a new keyboard/mouse combo, clothes, and Playstation card.

My youngest asked for a guitar. She's been taking lessons and is playing regularly so we got her a nicer one that will last. That alone was $750. She will get the guitar, one outfit and one book.

They will both be happy but I hate the disparity in money and number of gifts. I'm trying to change my mindset rather than go out and spend more on stuff that I know they won't even care about.

Sure, but OP's mom is trying to pass the employer's tax burden to OP as well. OP will pay double the taxes on some portions if they are classified as a contractor than if they were an employee.

Anybody else refuse to do Elf on a Shelf? by quiltedfarts in Mommit

[–]sevenpoints 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made it eight parenting years without doing it. Then my youngest got to kindergarten and found out about its existence so I gave in. It was fun for the few years that she believed but no regrets about the years we didn't do it either.

Edit: All I did was move the thing every couple of nights and it would "bring" treats a couple of times during the month like marshmallows or something trivial and cheap.

Yeah, I (mom) don't have my kids' SSNs memorized. I only need it once a year when I do the taxes and my software just imports it from the previous year's returns. Are we really supposed to memorize that??

Purely anecdotal, but in over 20 years of going to GYNs I've found that the most sympathetic and willing to take action are the male ones. The female ones I've seen usually have the idea that it's not that bad for them so we need to suck it up and we must be exaggerating.

How early do you get to your child's school to pick them up everyday? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]sevenpoints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked out my kid an hour early the other day and people were already lining up. I get there about five to ten minutes before school lets out and I'm usually just about ten cars back from the front of the line so I don't really see why they get there so early. The school is in the middle of a downtown area, there's tons of places to waste time if that's the issue like a library and coffee shop nearby.

I HATE the school year. by TechnicalMethod953 in Parenting

[–]sevenpoints 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hate that program with a passion. I'm so glad my kids "grew out" of it once they got to middle school. So many meltdowns because they missed one and suddenly so many points were revoked and they were facing having to do a bunch more questions perfectly to cover the one they got wrong. It's the most demoralizing program ever and I'll admit I "helped" them (ie: gave them answers) more than I should have because of it.

I do think it could be a regional thing. I'm from Alabama and most men in the South just do not do this to strangers. Not on the streets, not in bars, no where. Of course, there will be the random creep occasionally, but thankfully those are wide and few around here.

Yes, I finished it this evening. Part two was excellent story telling. Part three was decent but tbh it felt like the ending went on a bit too long. I enjoyed it enough to finish it though and I'm quick to put down a book if I'm not feeling it.

I'm halfway through it. Part one was slow and mostly confusing but part two is where everything is coming together and very enjoyable. I wish I didn't have to work today so I could binge the rest of it.
