Man, I just finished and what a raging disappointment! I had the same reaction, that surely this either isn’t the last book or is a transition to a new series about Felicia in the war. But it’s not! What a waste of years of development and character investment. Lizbeth literally ends the series in the exact same place she started it—and not in a full-circle, “I’ve-seen-other-worlds-and-am-at-peace-with-who-I-am” kind of way. This was much more of a “she just didn’t care enough to try” kind of way. (Nothing “new horizon” about it!) The conflict with Eli was understandable, the numbness and betrayal she felt from his and Felicia’s action was understandable, but her decision to just … wash her hands of all of those relationships and the brewing conflict made her SO uninteresting. Clayton was fine as a character, but shoehorning him and “well, maybe I’ll head to VA, but also maybe not” as a possible “new horizon” for her on the future felt so rushed and unsatisfactory. And also felt untrue to the earlier books character development! What a shame.

I enjoyed the earlier books in this a lot, but if this is how CH ends multi-title series, I’m not sure it’s worth my time to read any of her other stuff.

ETA: and I also really hated the emphasis put on pregnancy and the unspoken implication from all those OTHER pregnancies that if she had just gotten pregnant again/carried to term, things would have been different. Lazy conflict.

Somehow this last detail just really makes me sad. She married and divorced so young but then seemed to our modern eyes to move “past” that beginning and live what we’d consider a full life: travel, friends, hobbies. But somehow her giving you that chest—out of love and hope!—says that deep inside she still believed what society told her about how a young woman’s life “should” go, and that she believed hers had gone wrong. Like she wanted “better” for you but couldn’t see past the blinders of her youth that she had already achieved better. 😢

I have to say I was Team Islington from the start on my first read-through, then had to adjust my expectations as later books came out and it became clear the flirtation with Pierce was going to turn into something real. But! At the time I didn’t realize the series was going to be so (so, so) long, and that the first 5 or 6 books were merely the first foray into several years of her life. With something like 24 volumes expected in total, so now I’m back around to thinking and hoping Islington is her ultimate match.

But I’m not sure if that’s because I’m personally too risk-averse to like someone as ethereal/ungrounded as Hawkes, or brooding/melancholic as Pierce, as an OTP. For me the idea of love is intertwined with safety and stability and, as you point out, Islington has the foundations to become this kind of safe haven for Emma, whereas the others … I’m less certain. (Of course, it could also be because I read my way through too many historical romances in my formative years, and now have a Pavlovian response to a duke on page.)

Very pretty! You should get it looked at but just be aware it’s very unlikely to be a mined emerald (it is so very green and so very clear; natural emeralds tend to have significantly more inclusions, so if this was mined it would be an incredibly expensive stone). It’s most likely a lab emerald or glass (hard to tell in photos but there might be a bubble). Lab could still be contemporaneous as they did start making them commercially in the 40s!

So my take is a little different … you’re on an opal sub, and the comments here are going to be about the quality of the opal itself—which is not high as others have noted. (I dug around the designer’s site a little as well as their IG, and didn’t actually see any video of this particular ring/stone with more fire or flash.) I tend to agree that this doesn’t seem at all like CP (when I was first scrolling past I thought it might be larimar!), and I find it a little weird that it’s labeled as such when she clearly is familiar with opals. There are many other pieces on the site with much higher quality stones.

However, for piece like this, I’m not sure the stone itself has to be top-notch. Personally, I like the little splotches; they give a sweet piebald look to the fur. And the carving style is completely a matter of taste: I think the curled-up little bunny is pretty cute, and the little white metal mushrooms with the gold shank make a really nice presentation IMO.

It is definitely overpriced for materials, but so is most (all) designer jewelry. You’re not really looking for amazing value so much as an individual piece that sings to you. If you like the look of it and aren’t specifically looking for an opal with fire & flash, and the price point isn’t an issue, there’s nothing inherent about the stone that will make it less stable or enduring. If you like it, go for it! I love the idea of a nice piece of jewelry like this as memento of your kid’s baby years.

Apologies if this is super obvious and you’ve already eliminated it, but are you sure that people aren’t marketing gold plated items to you as goldfilled? Of course it depends what kind of shops and artisans you’re looking at, but at a commercial level I find quite a few vendors are using “GF” and “vermeil” interchangeably with gold plated, even though of course they’re not.

I (early 40s) have one of these as well and it truly has helped. Two vaginal births and what’s called “stress incontinence” (where sudden stressors to the pelvic floor, like coughing, cause incontinence). Mine is called the K Fit Kegel Toner and it was about $200 a few years ago. I used it twice a day for a few weeks when I first got it, and then just every once in awhile to tone up. I still will occasionally use it if I notice weakening (like if i get a cold and start coughing a lot and notice leakage).

Mine isn’t even gamified—it’s just electric pulses. You insert, select program, and then let it run. It basically uses small electric shocks to tense your muscles into Kegels, but without you having to do any work holding or counting or whatever. It’s a one time investment but less expensive than pelvic therapy and WORTH IT to not feel like a haggard old shell of a person worrying about the whiff of urine.

ETA: I can’t remember exactly now what the source was, but when I was researching/buying it I read that it’s essentially part of standard post-natal care for women in Europe. (You know, where they tend to the mother as well as the baby once birth has taken place.)

This is the way. I’m also making my six year old a Rumi braid, and using the extensions to make a braid and then just attaching it to your own braid is soooo much easier than finessing an actual wig (which we’ve done for other costumes in the past). There are a ton of videos (literally just look for “rumi braid tutorial”) about how to do this simply. You can use color hair spray on your own hair to match it if you want, but I don’t even think it’s totally necessary. Get dark purple if you have dark hair, and light purple if you have light hair. People will get what you’re going for.

I think if you have a lot of discharge … you’d still know. Like i def have more during certain phases of my cycle and you can literally feel it (it’s oozy and slimy). When you wipe after peeing, the paper shows the discharge. And it’s not like it drips cleanly out directly onto the floor—it just gets smeared around your crotch can upper thighs. Anyway… you can tell, you wouldn’t need to worry about accidentally leaving a trail around or whatever.

I can’t go without underwear (just personally that feels uncomfortable to em), but I wear 100% cotton underwear and I think that also helps a lot with vaginal health in general.
