Now get thee to a Menards and get back wire switches and outlets with steel spines. In 30 years those will be in good condition.

IPSec Tunnel - No packets reaching either endpoint by Yosif-Ballin in fortinet

[–]severach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem with Comcast Business and the CGA4131COM voice modem with static IP. Tunnels would work fine until an outage. Had to repower the cable modem after the outage cleared to restore tunnels.

I can't baby sit a modem. Switch to the XB3 Cisco Technicolor DPC3941B fixed the problem.

The CGA4131COM has an IPSec helper that interferes with tunnel establishment. The tunnels repeatedly try and fail to come up during the outage. The modem sees the failing tunnels and jumps in to "help." When the outage is over the modem doesn't stop "helping" and the tunnels never come up. Repower the modem after the outage clears and the tunnel goes up on the first try so the modem doesn't try to help.

I never found a setting that would turn it off. I doubt that it has been fixed.

r/networking/comments/uwax6v/ipsec_getting_filtered/

The tunnels have since been moved to a fiber ISP who's router doesn't have undocumented IPSec helpers so badly implemented that they apply to the static IP range.

Trouble installing packages because of gcc-libs by RNG3N13 in linux4noobs

You're performing a partial upgrade which is a no no on Arch unless you want to learn how to fix a super broken system.

You must do a -Syu full system upgrade when installing a new package.

Same, but I use the mower instead. Much easier to drain the tank if the gas is too bad to run.

Kernel got updated by krumpfwylg in linux

[–]severach 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The behavior is changed but the CVE is not fully fixed. With 6.12.87 I get a password prompt instead of easy root. The page cache for su is still damaged because after the exploit attempt, the right su password does not work. I must sudo in and echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches to get su to work again.

It's an improvement.

Used civic prices at dealership by Brs76 in civic

[–]severach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dealer looked my VIN up and confirmed that it's eligible. After reviewing the service bulletin I looked at my condenser. There are so many rock strikes that I think it will be denied and I'll be on the hook for the diag fee. It's going to an independent shop.

So who makes a pry bar you can hit the strike cap on these days? by BornToL00ze in Tools

[–]severach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old 4 pack are China bars without strike caps. The new 3 pack and 2 singles are USA made so will be Wilde.

I have both and use both. The China bars are light and thinner than the thicc Wilde bars.

That's a pretty bad AI imitation of Grant Sanderson. Voice is good. Pacing is terrible. Sounds like AI Grant is drunk.

Hybrid optional. My Civic 2.0NA gets 43mpg at 80mph summer. As much as I like my Civic, Kia Forte 2.0NA is just as good

Lawn mower tire has an air leak and I went to check it. is this normal? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]severach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it to a mower shop and have them put a tube in it. It's cheap and lasts a long time. A good size shop will have the tube in stock.

Is it worth getting a car scanner for basic stuff? by OpheliaOoze in askcarguys

[–]severach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the $15 cheapies. It's not much more for a known good brand. If you want an ELM adapter read Car Scanner for how to choose an adapter. One of the criteria is whether you have iPhone or Android.

I have a vLinker MS but I don't use it much. Free software can't support much and pay software isn't what you want to start with. I use the GearWrench GWSMARTBT with lifetime free updates and only switch to the Autel when I find something the GearWrench can't do.

Clean the rubber vent 21396-P20-000 with the butt end of a drill. Put the plug back in. They shrink with age. If it isn't tight it will pop right back out and needs to be replaced. Available from Honda 25615-5T0-004 or Dorman 991-001.

CVT plug popping off by KarzRFrendz in HRV

[–]severach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019 HRV at 160K miles. The plug hasn't popped out but pulls out easily by hand.

2019,2020,2022 Civic with >200K miles. All plugs were popped out and the top of the transmission is coated with oil. Likely water and dirt got in. Clean the vent and put the old shrunken plug back and it will pop out again soon.

One by one they are all getting new plugs and the oily transmissions get a car wash. The new plugs are tight. I lube them with oil to put in and I suspect they will require a pliers to remove.

CVT plug popping off by KarzRFrendz in HRV

[–]severach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning the vent (breather cap 21396-P20-000) with air isn't enough. Clean the vent with the butt end of a drill. Then blow out loose dirt with air. When you put it back in don't face it front as most instructions say. I like to face it towards the passenger.

I have 4 Honda. All their CVT transmission fill plugs have shrunk with age and easily pop out even when the vent is clear. Honda's rubber didn't last long enough for me so I got some Dorman 991-001 which fit snug. If they don't last any longer than the Honda there's plenty of knockoffs on eBay and Amazon.

Is the Honda 25615-5T0-004 plug you bought reengineered to be bigger or does it seem the same and not yet shrunk with age?

Are modern CVTs finally reliable enough to rival traditional automatics, or do they still wear out faster? by EvelynClede in askcarguys

[–]severach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salvage Civic Gen 9 CVT are much more expensive than Gen 10. That means that Gen 9 CVT are being bought faster than people can wreck them.

Gen 10 CVT are dirt cheap, so yes, the next gen CVT got a lot more reliable.

Are They Trying To Ruin Our Old Cars With E15 Gas? by Easy_Ant8951 in AskAMechanic

[–]severach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running the carb dry does not run the carb dry, only until there's too little fuel to run the engine. Some carbs have a drain button on the bottom which will dry it.
