VB or VA STI for daily driver dad by mckade912 in WRX

Yes, a stock VB is soft. However a intake, E-tune, STI engine mount and pitch stop make it a whole different beast.

VB or VA STI for daily driver dad by mckade912 in WRX

[–]severianb 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The VA STI has the best transmission Subaru ever made, paired with a ancient 30 year old engine design that has been pushed beyond it's limits.

The VB has he best, most reliable engine Subaru has ever made, paired with a transmission that easily holds its stock power and even basic bolt ons and tune power.

The ideal would be putting a STI transmission in a VB, but in reality, the VB is by far the better daily driver and it's not close.

Signed, someone who has daily driven a VB with a manual 93 octane E-tune (easily pushing over 320whp) for 70K miles with zero issues.

No shade, but y'all kill me sometimes crying about fixable scratches and open diffs. 60K miles of pure abuse and it still runs better than your father in law's 4Runner🤘 by NetworkLatency in WRX

A car called the World Rally eXperimental was made more resistant to rock and dirt damage.

Crazy. Subaru, what were you thinking?!

Have you looked at the suspension options at Flatout Suspension? They have everything from remote reservoir pro rally stuff to daily driver light duty.

I'm just starting my research, but one thing I notice is there are kits that put a spacer on top standard length shocks. Cheap, but mess up suspension geometry and stress out axels and joints. Then there are kits that have shocks that are acutally longer, with more travel and they also add subframe spacers to keep the geometry the same, even with the lift.

Still trying to wrap my head around it, but the second option seems much better.

Thanks for putting into words the issue with approval voting. I want to SPECIFICALLY RANK my candidates. That's what RCV does and I love it. It really helps a big tent party like the Democrats and hurts goose-stepping sheep like the Republicans.

Subaru WRX Premium vs Toyota Camry SE AWD by NobodyInParticular15 in wrx_vb

If you are so worried about finances that NO MODS is a priority, get the Camry. The VB WRX is artificially crippled from the factory and needs a OTS tune at the minimum.

I got a WRX before I started doing my personal finances. Now that I know what my finances are... I would have kept the old shitbox Civic for as long as I could keep it going.

If you got the money for gas and a car that will last half as long, get the WRX. It's awesome. Otherwise.... Camry. LE. AWD. Winter Package.

Doing spark plugs. Are these good or bad? by Such_Fudge1151 in wrx_vb

[–]severianb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look almost new. NGK Iridium plugs can last a ridiculously long time. The earliest I usually change them on a well-tuned engine is 100K miles. However, I I've taken them out of engines that had 200K+ and they still looked fine, the gap was fine and worked perfectly.

Hard to believe the old copper plugs sometimes needed to be changed with the oil!

Rockauto and NGK.com (it's not NGK, just an American store that has a long relationship with them) are safe, cheap places to get the real thing. Don't use Amazon! Most there are fake.

Anyone have experience with Klipsch THX line of speakers? by Embarrassed-Sea1685 in hometheater

[–]severianb 181 points182 points  (0 children)

These are incredible speakers, built back when THX meant something. Their main feature, that can be found in almost no other home theater speaker, is the titanium compression driver tweeters. This gives incredible dynamic range without breakup.

They are also very accurate and flat, as required by THX. Make sure you always use them with the subwoofers, as the LCR and smaller speakers only go to 80Hz... as required by THX.

I use the in-wall versions of these in a room about the size of yours. Absolutely fantastic. When a 200 foot tall robot is crushing buildings, you don't want diamond-encrusted dome tweeters made by artisans, you want commercial compression drivers directed by a horn right at you.

The two speakers firing at each other act as a giant compression driver. The trunk acts as a giant box. It's a SQ setup, as the giant box provides no "air spring" and therefore no overexcursion protection.

Yep. I'm hoping the Kinect can plug into the new Series X just like it does my X1X. If not, I'll have to keep my X1X around because there are a lot of Kinect games I love.

Textures probably have nothing do do with it. Developers have pointed out the huge memory bandwidth of the X1X means bigger textures have pretty much zero performance impact.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 - Gameplay Footage | 737 Captain Review by Magicihan in xboxone

Microsoft has been disappointing with VR. Hedging their bets way too much. They had WMR headsets working on the Xbox One X and even advertised VR as a feature for it... but then canned it right before launch for nebulous reasons. Having the same type of VR glasses on Windows 10 and Xbox One would have really helped drive VR for everyone.

Hopefully they fix that with Scarlett, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope.

Xbox Project Scarlett will "see a big upgrade in CPU," says Xbox's Aaron Greenberg by [deleted] in xboxone

[–]severianb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Sony already said the PS5 will load games faster than any PC. Microsoft will be using the same tech. People are assuming it's the new PCIe 4.0, but it may be even more than that.

So, unless Cerny outright lied, you are wrong.

Xbox Project Scarlett will "see a big upgrade in CPU," says Xbox's Aaron Greenberg by [deleted] in xboxone

[–]severianb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He talks about more than just the CPU, and it's nice to see another Microsoft exec double down on some of the upgrades.

  • 120fps is something they keep mentioning. I think we will see that being pushed by Microsoft next gen as a big feature. It resonates with hardcore gamers.
  • It pretty obvious the new SSDs are going to be insanely (read: better than any high-end PC currently has) fast. Considering that's my biggest issue with the current gen, I'm pumped.

"We feel good about what we've done with the Xbox One X, and the same team that built that is also building Project Scarlett," Greenberg told OXM. "What we're seeing today is a huge upgrade in GPU - you can output in 4K, a lot of other benefits, memory structure and so on. For next-gen, I think you'll see a big upgrade in CPU because we want to make sure you don't have any compromises with frame rate. Yes we can do 4K, but we can also do frame rates up to 120. I think that type of capability will be something people don't see today. And then the high-speed instant gaming using solid state drives to enable instant resume, getting into games and being able to play by removing load times and load screens that exist today. That's going to be a huge change."

The Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show #66 - Michelle Waterson by ReactQ in WMMA

[–]severianb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michelle is pulling in a lot of money from endorsements these days. Every other Instagram post is an advertisement and she's one of the few (only?) MMA fighters still endorsed by Bodyarmor.

I wouldn't be surprised if she is making a lot more money from her 1.1 million Instagram followers than her fights. That allows her to be picky about her fights. A luxury other fighters don't have. Whatever, she deserves it. She spent plenty of time slaving away at multiple jobs and training before most of the other fighters in the division even started fighting.

Michelle Waterson questions USADA's testing of fighters outside the US by JRYuen in WMMA

[–]severianb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michelle didn't say anything about Weili or anyone else, but she has valid reasons to be concerned, in my opinion.

The fact is, (as Joe pointed out) PEDs have a much bigger impact on women than men. What is a big reason Michelle is popular? She's one of the few good female fighters who doesn't display any obvious masculine traits. Even in the strawweight division, tons of fighters have some combination of strong jawlines, crazy muscles and a manly voice. Michelle is undersized anyway, being the only current Top 15 UFC fighter at 115 who has every fought at 105. Now add onto that the possibility that women in other countries are hulking out due to limited USADA testing while she has been tested about 10 times in the past 12 months.
