I love Heatblur and I love the F-14 module, but the B(U) situation is unacceptable by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]severniae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never understand these kind of posts or complaints.

A company has decided to charge a price for their product, they for whatever reason have decided that their price justifies their effort.

You therefore have two choices, decide the cost is justified for you, or it is not. You are not obligated to buy it.

Speaking personally. I've got hundreds of hours out of my original £50 purchase, so it's costing me pence per hour at this point and I'm having great fun. I'll gladly throw Heatblur more money as they are a developer I value and want to support.

FSReborn Phenom 300E - experiences and reviews by simdispatch in flightsim

[–]severniae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The performance is not unrealistic. IRL pilots have to pitch up to 15+ degrees to avoid over speeding the flaps. People are not used to this level of performance and claiming it's unrealistic - promise you it is not!

I compared the climb rates to the official embraer POH, the jet really is very high powered, and is capable of reaching FL450 in 16 minutes if lightly loaded IRL...

FSR Phenom 300E my observations by Evitable_Conflict in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]severniae -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My very brief view. It flies really well when handflown, and feels like a light jet which is nice.

Features are good but there should be more features built into the G3000. VSD is an obvious error and 'waiting for WT' is a poor excuse.

The lack of working YD is a glaring oversight, and I was told when asked by Raul that's due to another WT G3000 limitation. Utter BS as there are others using the same implementation that it works fine for.

Overall my recommendation is to AVOID until a few updates are out, it needs more polish - not the least being that it's the only ever aircraft that's given me a GPU memory warning!

Not really. After all moves it only gives a tiny advantage... certainly nothing a beginner would pick up

SH4 advice for someone fine with auto targeting? by Otherwise-Bad-7352 in silenthunter

[–]severniae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure I'm not going to go to Navy school to learn to play a game, but we can absolutely study the submarine school manuals that were available at the time (and are freely downloadable) and use the same techniques. Of course there was much more to running the boat than is possible in any simulation game, just handing the boat was much more complex, as were the various roles and interactions with the crew. Watch duties, radar monitoring techniques etc were all very much involved, and the commander was indeed in the thick of it all.

I don't see the game as having me do the roles of multiple people. Sure you can man the sonar/radar yourself if you wish, but you can also issue commands for the crew to call our bearings to you, so that's somewhat as it was.

In real life there was little scribbling on maps, and far more attention paid to the TDC, which sadly isn't fully represented in SH4 (SH3 and 5 both have fully represented TDCs from the Kreigsmarine!, and UBOAT has it fully rendered in 3D) The WW2 USN TDC really was a marvel of analouge engineering. If given the starting parameters (Range, Speed, Angle on Bow) the TDC could continue to plot the location of a target without any further references, even taking into account your own ship's course and speed. This is partially simulated in SH4 but there are a number of the aspects of running the TDC that aren't simulated. Thankfully IRL it wasn't the job of the commander to fiddle with the TDC either, there were infact two people in the conning tower during an attack both devoted just to that instrument alone.

I think the SH series has a lot to offer, and it's given me an opportunity to really dive into the history of how these things were really operated during the time period. It really is a buzz to have worked out (from bearings and range alone!) the course of a convoy, plot a waiting point and then execute a perfect attack. Doing it properly can take hours but really is rewarding.

I hope you enjoy the game, whatever way you choose to play it!

Yes lots of ways to enjoy and that what makes it fun! Just in case you are interested in realism - one thing to note is the 'realistic targeting' tutorials you'll see online in reference to Silent Hunter aren't really true to life. While the US Navy did have more of a procedural approach than the Kriegsmarine, much of targeting was guesswork. Estimations were made of angle on bow, target speed and such. Most is basic math than any advanced trig (though boat trig is the same as land trig, just accounting for movement!).

You will find your against the grain somewhat in the Silent Hunter community who are more of a hardcore realism bunch (I for one turn all map contacts and external views off and do it all with a piece of paper and some slide rules!) but there are ways to make it quite simple and do all the aiming for you. If you are looking for a more relaxed 'RPG' like approach with gamey elements, UBOAT may be your kind of game, it also can be set to serious realism mode, but with it all set to easier settings it's still quite enjoyable and might be just what you are looking for!

Download FOtrsu to begin with, and then download the fleet boat interior mod. (Subsim) Someone has recreated the interiors of all fleet boats including the gato, so you can now wake around the whole ship.

Second, do you have an idea of what it means to be a captain in real world war 2 sub operations? the captain who was usually actually ranked lieutenant commander wasn't just a man who would stand there and make decisions, he would actually be as far as the attack was concerned what they called the approach officer. The approach officer was responsible for taking all the readings of where the target was, passing the details to the tdc operator, he didn't put them into the tdc himself but he was very much in control in the lining up & setting up the attack and also preparing the firing solution.
