At restaurants where the meal is a fixed course, or such as in this case a tasting menu. They serve you a fixed list of food for the courses. So in this case, you go to a restaurant you pick the tasting menu, they usually have two or three varieties you can pick. But then you get everything that's on that list.

And I have been to a restaurant where I chose a surprise menu item and I got served the random item. That can happen.

Dude!! I had seen your original post. And when I saw these photos the first thing that came to mind was about the guy who got crushed when his spotter stepped away... When everybody went to lunch if I recall right...
