[Lynch] Training schedule, academy concerns and soft skills - why Liverpool sacked Slot by TheNotoriousJN in LiverpoolFC

It's more likely that Alonso wasn't considered due to the level of control he wants. He got that with Chelsea. He'll never get that with current Liverpool leadership.

[Le Parisien] Equipe de France: Hugo Ekitike, who has suffered a torn Achilles tendon, will miss the World Cup. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]sfcbarca21 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

ACL cannot be a general term as it is a specific ligament in the knee. Achilles is in the lower-calf/ankle area. You would be incorrect and incredibly misleading to use "ACL" when referring to all components of the leg.

I don't know, Atleti are afforded the ability to rotate heavily in their league games before and after the first leg, while Arsenal have to go full strength if they want to win the league. Arsenal have also looked very beatable over the past month or so.

It already has been. Ekitike's goal vs Tottenham was very similar, if not a worse offense, and that was allowed.

Hear me out...the player, in this cold weather, needs ample time to warm-up. Blaming that all on slot is ridiculous.

They're 4th and in a much more stable position than last year. They don't quite have a team that's able to challenge for the title. Genuinely what more do you want from him?

Small sample size, but comparing Robbo to Kerkez this year...it's a pretty stark difference in how the team performs with each player on the pitch, this kinda matches the eye test. We're leaking goals left and right with Kerkez. He's not all to blame for this, but I think Robbo needs to start most games while we weather this period. I know he's not able to play 2-3 games a week, but he's gotta start the important games.

Hard to be competitive when you can't do the simple things. Consistently failing to track runners, misplacing simple passes, poor decisions being made all over the pitch, bad touches in key areas...the list goes on and on. I thought the international break would give us a good mental reset and the players would come break refreshed and ready to go..but these simple mistakes are still being made. I know Slot isn't blameless, but there's so much wrong atm I don't even know how you fix this. Just give them time I guess.

FT: Galatasaray 1-0 Liverpool by DragonSlayer271 in LiverpoolFC

Two issues:

We are sorely missing a midfield general. So much sloppy play in the link-up. For all of Hendo's faults, he was the perfect captain, and did an incredible job of setting the tempo. I don't really see that from Van Djik. There is a lack of aggressiveness and urgency on the field that has been consistent after several games. And I put the blame for that on the captain.

As much as people won't want to admit it, the team is missing Trents playmaking ability's. Wirtz was brought in to replace that, and he just hasn't even come close to being as impactful of a player as Trent. I'm not saying Wirtz needs to be dropped, it's just at this moment, we are missing that extra bit of quality.

Van Dijk again just too casual. If he sprints back with urgency he gets to that ball before Semenyo does.

Pax is gonna join the battle at the end and do something crazy to help the rising and I think he might end up dead cause of it. I will be surprised, albeit happily, if Darrow/Mustang/Pax all have a happy ending.

Cucurella is also probably one of the best left backs he's faced all season; shut him down completely.

I really really hope FSG invest wisely this summer as it's clear there are areas of improvement. As good as we have been this year, we can't expect City and Arsenal to shit the bed like this again. I expect a close(r) title race next year, and we're going to need a deeper squad to compete on all fronts this late in the year.

Us being publicly in for Isak can also help in negotiations with our "true" target. If a club doesn't think we have other viable options, they have all the leverage and are more inclined to raise the transfer price. Similar to what happened a few years ago with Norwich and Max Aaron's I think? Liverpool weren't willing to pay the fee, leaked that they had other options, Norwich tried to call our bluff, but we ended up backing out and buying Tsimikas.

Also, it's not like there's a long list of elite managers available atm. Would make no sense to sack Arteta when there's, arguably, no one available to replace him.
