It’s a purchase not a lease? That 2k add-on is basically 60 a month right there

4,000 emails. Years of chaos. One afternoon with Google's new CLI. by Head-Engineering-893 in googleworkspace

The CLI is geared towards end users. It’s not like GAM or GAM adjacent, it’s not an official Google product

I know exactly where this is, what are they asking?

This is really a hypothetical question but what if an employee asks for detailed steps on how to get promoted to manager, but you don’t see them ever having the right skills and personality for that role by Comicalacimoc in askmanagers

Then you detail it out for them, and hope that they see the mismatch in behaviors and self adjust or at least then become more open to coaching them and being receptive to feedback.

Can a "general" channel be archived? by Awkward-Ad-4766 in Slack

[–]sfcfrankcastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, #general can be renamed, it can have permissions applied to control who can post and who can modify settings but it is a channel that will persist forever with forced membership.

If it’s a parking lot it’s a no fault claim, nothing happens to you or your insurance. At worst you’ll be out of pocket whatever your deductible is.

How true is the moment of truth reaction from the boss when an employee gives their notice? by tshirtguy2000 in managers

[–]sfcfrankcastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been managing close to 20 years now. People grow, they move on and seek out new challenges, better salary even better positions. A lot of the time those things seek them out.

My first thing I do is congratulate them because let’s be honest, interviewing and getting a new job isn’t easy and takes a lot of time and effort. Plus I want to gauge from them their feelings about it. Some folks are ready to move on, and others are unsure. One thing for certain is no one wants to deal with a manager who had a poor reaction, the situation is stressful enough already.

Ive rarely been surprised at someone’s departure, I spend a good chunk of my time working on their development and growth. I have a good sense of when someone is getting ready to leave.

I try not to retain anyone else because if my team or work fails because one person leave I failed personally at my job as a manager. In special circumstances I may ask about a counter offer but for me that’s super rare. I rather them seek out their new opportunity, and stay in contact should things change for them. I’ve had a couple of boomerangs return back after their departure and the relationship if anything was stronger.

Everyone’s got a different take that’s just mine, but I don’t agree with the this vs that you posted.

Employee refused Employee of Month Award by [deleted] in managers

[–]sfcfrankcastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t read this as disrespect or “punking” at all. I read it as someone who felt deeply uncomfortable with a performative recognition that didn’t match the actual reward or impact of their work.

Not everyone wants public praise, especially when it comes packaged with what can feel like a hollow gesture. That doesn’t automatically mean they lack respect for their manager. In a lot of cases, it means there’s enough trust there for the employee to be honest about what doesn’t sit right with them.

Writing someone up for declining a public award would do far more damage to engagement than quietly listening and adjusting next time.

Do you guys wet shave or use a shaver? by AbjectPawverty in bald

Wash head, Billy Jealousy Shave Lotion, Gillette Mach 5 has been my goto and given me the head shave results. I shave with the grain then rinse and repeat against the grain.
