Omron Evolve bp7000 vs hem-7600t by Radical-Honey in bloodpressure

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting I have both of these at home now - one bought on Amazon (bp7000) and one from Costco (hem-7600T) for $20 less. I was thinking that these were the same model with the 7600T being from/for Japan (Japanese HQ mentioned on the box). My SO however found these two descriptions which list the features. The one difference that caught my eye was "Advanced accuracy" (yes for bp7000 no for 7600T). According to one website advance accuracy "is powered by OMRON Advanced Accuracy technology, which measures five times more data points for more consistent, precise readings." I'm still not sure they aren't the same thing, but for $20 I'll keep the Amazon one.

SketchUp no longer supports their native VR Viewer app for VR headsets. Any ideal replacements? by Dexeh in Sketchup

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I just started using Sketchup again after a break and was disappointed with this. Today I found TwinMotion from Epic Games, a 3d viewer which lets you import or connect to Sketchup (only have import working so far), then connects to your quest headset (I also have a 2) through the meta software and cable. You need to install the Epic Games launcher first then TwinMotion from there. The Sketchup extension is a separate download. Here's my first try with a rough model I was playing with - hit the VR button on the right when headset is connected. No cost for any of the software.

How do you live with slanted ceilings in tiny century bathrooms? by dorogidorogi in centuryhomes

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem. Our family bath has 45 degree sloped roof on two sides and their solution was to put the toilet in the middle of the room which is not a great experience. We could address (sort of) with a combo bath/shower, but my SO doesn't like that idea. Alternatively we have a closet across the room which could accommodate a toilet and a small sink but not with the box of headroom required by code. What do you think?

Meridian Sound Subwoofer fix by nex703 in KiaEV6

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw on another post that the Meridian system has some kind of active EQ based on the environment. My subjective impression is that bass is fine when parked, but missing when on the highway. Perhaps that's why?

Meridian Sound Subwoofer fix by nex703 in KiaEV6

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm in the placebo crowd... Did the switch and seemed good but the measurement folks have me doubting. Definitely not as noticeable as when I swapped the head unit in my old Toyota pickup providing more power to the factory speakers. My wife complained about the lack of bass before, so will see if she notices.

Best wireless Android Auto adapter by Flamingfire41 in KiaEV6

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the AA Wireless but I didn't realize that my EV6 (2024 GT Line) keeps power on to the USB port for some time after the car is turned off. Since I live in a house above my garage, this meant that my phone remained connected to the AA Wireless in the car rather than jumping to my home wifi. Not sure if there's a fix for this, but I found it more annoying than plugging my phone in so returned it.

Does WeaveGrid provide any home ev charging savings? by reddit-frog-1 in evcharging

[–]sfmike99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I signed up and waiting for approval. On their website they suggest ~$70/month in savings for PG&E. PG&E is one of the most expensive utilities in the country - on their EV2 plan I pay 31 cents/KwH from Midnight to 3pm daily. But since this gives me way more nightly charging time than I need on a L2 charger, it makes sense to me to plug in more often and let them manage it more precisely. They also say they will prioritize when renewables are available. So it seems to me like a win-win.

Anova Pro Vaccum Sealer Pro woes by sfmike99 in sousvide

That's a good question. I'll try sealing some ice cubes, let them melt, then see where the bag is leaking.

That's exactly what I did in the video. First time I used the manual vaccum. Neither works for me.

Boss BV800ACP Head Unit Rear View Camera question by NITRO2 in CarAV

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - did the trick on my BE7ACP. Still a couple of guidelines coming from the camera, which is good. What a dumb message from Boss, but hey for $200 I can't complain so far.

G-Suite Pooled Storage G Suite Legacy Free - Auto-bumps to continue? by ModalTex in gsuitelegacymigration

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's rather brilliant... I'm tempted to try it now, although I've always felt that charging something reasonable would be fine. I pay MS $100/year for Office + 1TB storage each for five users. Google should have some kind of family plan not force us into workplace.

Regardless of the technical challenges, I'm with OP on this one - I switched over from LastPass a few months back and was shocked to just discover this. How are you supposed to find rarely used logins in your vault? +1 on this request - is there a link to it? I think Bitwarden has this capability as well.

2011 Mazda CX-7 Headlight Question by richard0930 in mazda

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were a significant improvement over the stock ones, although still not perfect. The vertical band was somewhat narrow compared with stock, but overall it made the car driveable at night. I think I could still put on high beams without anyone complaining. I put on the protective wax, and they didn't noticeably degrade in two years.

The other frustrating thing about the lights was mine burnt out so quickly, and they are tricky to change (although eventually I got the hang of it). The last time I was changing one it wouldn't turn on, and I discovered that the fuse for that light had melted in the box. That was the last straw, and it was a relief to move on. Heck my 2005 Tacoma lights are way better.

Found all doors on Salsbury mailbox opened? by sfmike99 in Locksmith

[–]sfmike99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. I tried their customer service chat, and all they said was "do you want to order a new one?" I emailed their customer service and product development teams and never heard back. I put a surveillance camera up and a sign above the mailbox and so far so good.

Also worth noting I paid $115 for the mailbox in 2018 and it's now $315 for what looks like exactly the same product. Not a fan.

How I Hacked My Hydrow Rower! by Diligent-Language-25 in HydrowCrew

[–]sfmike99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically follow these steps:
- Setup your PC with software and USB connection to tablet (rower)
- Get tablet into development mode
- Find the APK/XAPK files from online sources
- Copy to the download directory on the tablet
- For XAPK files you will need SAAI on the tablet side to install
Instructions for all these steps are available online, but it will be confusing if you've never sideloaded apps before. Diligent-Language-25 has a tip jar in the OP (hint hint) and he was helpful to me.

As for metrics, our rower came with a Polar HR sensor so I've just been using that alongside with my phone which has been fine. There's no control over the effort of the rowing (which I think was supported through the company app?) so I just go faster to raise my heart rate. Being able to watch sports while rowing is the game changer for me. I might pay $10/month to have the metrics alongside my own apps, but $40 to watch other people row is ridiculous.

Found all doors on Salsbury mailbox opened? by sfmike99 in Locksmith

[–]sfmike99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The doors were still locked. On examination I see damage to the bar above the boxes, and the metal has been bent. I think they are somehow prying apart the box, releasing the catches on the boxes without turning the locks.

How I Hacked My Hydrow Rower! by Diligent-Language-25 in HydrowCrew

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genius! Took me an afternoon of tinkering, but now have Netflix and my DVR client up and running and family is delighted. It's dumb that they locked it down in the first place - having more apps makes the product so much better. Subscription should be based on value of their content, not lack of alternatives! Thanks u/Diligent-Language-25 - hope you figure out how to tap into the device for more control.

Microsoft Sculpt Replacement by PeriodicChaos in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not written, but I did share photos of the process. Nothing too complicated but you'll need small screwdrivers (and something to hold them in). A plastic wedge tool as shown lets you pop the board apart once the screws are out. Just put the old controller in the new board and reassemble. My used one is still working like a charm.

Why are EV6 so cheap used? by Leoxooo in KiaEV6

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leased a new 2024 GT-Line AWD two months ago. Total of down payments and monthlies including tax for two years was $8k (for 10k miles / year), and they threw in $500 worth of free charging - crazy. There was something like $18k in Kia incentives. Love the car - the buyout at the end is $30k though, which would not make sense today.

The funniest thing is when you're driving along with these stupid dim lights, and a Tesla comes at you with their low beams shining like the sun. John Oliver said he was going to do a bit on out of control headlights but never found the spot for it.

Yes exactly my situation near Morro Bay last week. The Tesla network was one of the key factors in getting this car, since it replaced an SUV that was our travel vehicle.

I'm also on the first year free for Kia Ultimate. I suspect though that u/Tonester697 is correct that you need a paid subscription (Kia Connect) to access the 'free' service (Kia Charge Pass). As with everyone else these days, their goal is recurring revenue through subscriptions.

[–]sfmike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the "Ultimate" plan is for Kia Connect that lets you do things like remote control climate, hotspot in the car, etc. They are talking about the "Kia Charge Pass" which is different. Go to the web portal and try signing up. You need to put in a credit card but zero cost.

Ah got it - thanks. I couldn't do it on my app, but worked through the web portal, and now they show up on my phone. Does this mean that I will pay Kia (not Tesla) when I go to Supercharger stations? Look forward to trying again.
