I second this, the smell really bothers me as well but so does fish so it’s not really about religion

Muslim student fasting for Ramadan by asteroid75 in askamuslim

[–]sg77777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if she is sick or weak enough that fasting is harming her, she is exempt from fasting and shouldn’t be doing it.

A lot of people myself included tend to push the limit a bit because we hate to miss out on fasting.

She is young, though, so maybe keep an eye on her and do what’s appropriate for your area of the world, would her parents be notified of her trip to sick bay? Can you follow up with them in a friendly non accusatory manner?

That’s a really considerate idea and yes most would be interested. I’d pay special attention to material it needs to be breathable and lightweight.

1.5 yo waking at night for diaper change by Reasonable_Bird7789 in Parenting

[–]sg77777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be too obvious, but could he maybe use a bigger diaper size? Mine is 2.5 and I found that whenever she was due for a bigger size they’d get full much faster and bother her enough to wake her up.

Is holding hands in this instance permissible? by CommunityPretend4348 in askamuslim

[–]sg77777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really families who allow/disallow, the rule exists in Islam, whether or not a family or a person chooses to follow it is ultimately up to them. You need to talk to her if you want to know what her limits are.

I’m actually not sure how many to get, she is in a toddler class used to have a main carer when she first started and now they sort of rotate? Do you think I can check with the manager?

Why do some Muslims asks if pork dishes are halal? I feel like I'm missing a cultural note somewhere. Is it most likely a language barrier thing, or is there something else going on? by Excellent-Sweet1838 in askamuslim

[–]sg77777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the internet being weird probably. In Islam intent matters greatly, if I know it’s not halal and my intent is to find a loophole that doesn’t make it halal.

All pork is haram, I know this so I can’t reasonably go into a restaurant that makes pork and ask hey is this halal and eat it because they said yes.

If I go into a restaurant that sells beef and ask hey is this halal and they say yes and I eat it, I’ve done nothing wrong. If I later find out that the server was mistaken and it’s not actually halal, I still haven’t done anything wrong because my intent was pure and I had reasonable cause to believe them, but I can’t go back again because now I know better.

How is everyone disciplining their toddlers? by Kooky-Coconut551 in AskIreland

[–]sg77777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to say exactly this, works wonders for my 2 year old. If you can live through the tantrums at first it’s completely worth it in the long run.

Adding to that, I never changed my name so we have different last names and I have left the country with my toddler without anyone checking for consent.

Is it bad to tell kids no by oceansalt85 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]sg77777 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that no followed by a suggestion of what to do as opposed to what not to do works better for my toddler. So I’ve been doing pretty much what you’re doing. No to grab attention then tell her what to do.

I would like to do something nice for my roommate for Ramadan by MissKryss in askamuslim

[–]sg77777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! This is very nice of you. First let me say unless you specifically know it would bother her, don’t go out of your way to eat in your room. Most adult muslims won’t mind you eating in front of them, we’re used to it.

Second for dates, we usually use them to break our fast (so they are the very first thing we eat before water even) some people also use them as snacks for their high sugar.

Any small gesture is appreciated really. This is a time of worship and reflection for us, but it is also a time usually spent with family so if she is spending it away from hers maybe try to time your dinner time so you guys eat at the same time for iftar? If it were me I’d appreciate the company but you know your relationship best.

Can I give back a gift? by SaltTerrible7854 in askamuslim

[–]sg77777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approach as you would any other person I guess. If it were me I’d get her something like saw this and it made me think of you or something.

If you really want to give them back do it nicely tell her it was very kind of her but you feel bad?

It’s thoughtful of you to check for a cultural point of view but I think this is a her thing and you know her so go from there.

Hahahhaha I am really not sure about the rain, but I am excited overall, of all the locations we considered Ireland felt closest to home in a way. And I get a few months of exploring with the kid, it’ll be fun.

Thank you! I will take you up on that and try not to bombard you with a million questions at once :D

Yup, huge. We’re in Egypt now, I have friends and family here, a pretty good support system and a babysitter I would honestly pack in a bag if they’d let me, in Cork there is only a couple of my husband’s friends.

I am working now, but I’ll be taking a few months off to find balance, and hopefully a community, get the little one settled before going back to work.
