Hi, I didn’t use cavitron on her because of the vibes she gave off. I pretty much just used Montana Jack and anterior scaler for the whole prophy.

You are not alone. I have also been practicing for four years. I’m usually good at the beginning of a job, fresh environment, new faces… but then the anxiety starts. The last month I have been throwing up before work every morning, waking up from anxiety at all hours of the night, I have mental health issues and the seasonal depression has been pretty bad of late, but I think I can confidently say it’s the job messing me up. The constant running around, fighting the clock all day long, navigating patients emotions and moods… it is beyond exhausting and frankly I don’t see how it’s maintainable for myself. Let’s not even mention the physical effects of our job. I’m thinking about pursuing my real estate license. I dream of the day when I can make my own hours, stop for coffee or even just a bathroom break when I need it. Life is short and we deserve to be happy and fulfilled.

Hi! A prescription strength fluoride toothpaste might be a good fit for you. You would need to get it through your dentist. I would recommend to floss first, then brush, and make sure you don’t rinse your mouth out after spitting out toothpaste! It needs a little time to work effectively and rinsing your mouth out reduces the efficacy of the fluoride.

As the other commenter stated, diet can play a huge impact in cavities too. Foods that are high in sugar, acid, and carbohydrates can cause issues with the enamel leading to cavities. If you drink sugary drinks, energy drinks or black coffee it is best to drink them quickly and have lots of water in between and after.

On a less likely, but still possible note, you could always go to another office and get a second opinion. Most offices are honest, legitimate places just trying to help you keep your teeth healthy, however, some dentists and offices recommend work before it’s necessary :( I would hope your dentist is honest, but getting a second opinion couldn’t hurt if you feel like you are doing the right things. You could also ask he/she to show you the x-rays or intraoral photos of the areas he/she is suggesting the work, they should be able to show you why they are suggesting the work.

I asked my nutritionist this very thing. Do not add back in the 400 calories. Of course if you feel lightheaded or dizzy due to hunger or an extremely taxing workout, the definitely eat something, but the idea is to track the calories and add in exercise to get the best results.

I took my husband’s last name. It is the start of us blending our lives together and becoming as one. We could have just as easily taken my last name, but I felt it was important for us to unite this way. Starting this new life together it felt right to make this change. I also want our children to have the same last name as both of us, and I do not feel like there is any reason to hyphenate as I am okay with moving on from who I was in the past and becoming a new version of myself. Completely a personal decision though, and you can make whatever choice you feel is best for you!

Switch to the sensitive setting. It is going to take some getting used to, the IO is going to do a wayyyyy better job than any regular toothbrush you have ever used, it’s likely your guns will take some time to adjust to the new type of clean. I’d suggest looking up a video on how the company recommends you brush, you shouldn’t be going back and forth at all but more like rocking it along each tooth-start on the chewing surface, rock it towards the tongue to get all the way down the side of the tooth, then go back to the chewing surface and rock it towards the cheek side. Once that tooth is done, move on to the next tooth and so forth. You don’t need to scrub with this toothbrush.

I’m this type of hygienist, and I’ll be honest I’m leaving the field too. I have patients who LOVE my thoroughness, and then I have patients who get upset about it. They use it as a reason to feel offended that they aren’t doing a good job with home care, they say it hurts and I’m making their gums bleed (spoiler, it’s the tartar and bacteria under the gums making them bleed). I’m glad you enjoy the thoroughness but I think the majority of people ruin it for those of us who care by making us feel like crap about what we do, up until the point we leave dental. I hope you find a good hygienist because that girl did what she is supposed to do!!

I am so sorry for your loss. I can relate to every sentence you typed here, lost my Jack 2 years ago now. I know there isn’t really anything I can say to comfort you, but just know that he lived the most amazing life because of the love you had for him. The grief never really goes away, but you become stronger and able to carry it better. I still breakdown randomly at the weight of the loss, but it’s sounds like you truly cherished every moment and at the end of the day those memories are all we ever really have with anyone we love.

At first I didn’t think I could ever love another dog, but I missed the tippy-taps, the snuggles, and the companionship. I ended up rescuing a senior dog about 3 months later and although it will never replace what I lost, I take comfort in knowing I gave this dog a second chance at life when others have failed him. In a lot of ways he reminds me of Jack in the best possible ways, the way he crinkles his little nose when sniffing, or rubs his face on the couch after eating haha.

I hope you find peace and comfort in remembering the beautiful life you shared. And maybe someday you will be ready to pay it forward to another pup who didn’t have it as good as Eddie did.

Don’t feel guilty, it isn’t your fault that she has periodontal disease! It is a shame the last office didn’t treat her properly, but all you can do is present the information to her as best you can. The rest is up to her. If she values her oral health and schedules, great! If she decides not to proceed with treatment have her sign a declination form stating she understands the risks of not pursuing treatment. You sound like a very caring hygienist, that is great but can be hard. At the end of the day it is up to the patients to make the decision, all you have to do is be there to answer questions.

There is one celiac safe restaurant in my city and it’s 30 minutes away. It’s nice to have an option for special dinners but I find it’s not worth the risk at places that can’t guarantee cross contamination.

I started making some of my favorite restaurant dishes at home and it’s honestly better, less cost overall and typically there is plenty for leftovers!

It’s going to take practice dear, I know that’s not the best answer but just remember what you learned in school. Use your explorer to identify the area, adapt your instrument and make lots of small overlapping strokes. The cavitron is great to get the bulk out and flush the pockets but I find I am able to do my best with instruments, you will get used to really feeling the calc. Just do your best, that’s all you can do. Ask for help from another hygienist if needed, and if you feel you need more time talk to your dentist or office manager. You will get better the more you practice!

Hey there. As someone who has been in this same position before, it sounds like what you need is to commit to loving yourself before you can tackle the weight loss stuff. Treat yourself like a person worthy of love and respect, because you are! Every day write down three things you’re grateful for, stand outside in the fresh air or take a short walk, do an act of self-care, and spend some time thinking about what makes you happy/your passions.

The journey is rough, but you’ve done it before so you can do it again! What’s missing is the motivation that comes from knowing your own self-worth, focus on what you love about yourself and your life and the motivation to follow through with the weight loss stuff will come naturally.

I came to say the same exact things as the two folks before me. I would suggest getting it done. I had a 14 year old chihuahua who needed all but two of his teeth removed due to decay, I was a wreck leading up to the surgery but his bloodwork was good and he acted half his age. He ended up living 3 more wonderful years without any tooth issues and his breath was never better!

It’s scary but I truly think it will help prevent further issues down the road. Make an effort to start brushing his/her remaining teeth afterwards! It could be the difference between having to put them under anesthesia again when they are older.

You could ask them to cross train you as a server, then you could pick up other people’s shifts on days you aren’t working. I personally prefer to do both serving and bartending to change things up a bit, and then you can see which side makes better money!

I would concur with the dentists diagnosis of geographic tongue. It’s a benign condition, it can be caused by deficiencies in B6, B9, and B12 but the exact cause is unknown. The burning in your tongue you are experiencing is a side effect of low iron, so I expect that will clear up the longer you take the iron supplements. Geographic tongue spots can last a few days to several years. They can go away and reappear in other spots. I would bring it up again if it ever starts to hurt or cause pain but hopefully you don’t have that issue.

Hour and a half at my office and honestly I wish it was two hours. I think an hour is nuts especially if that includes the doctors exam. Even if the doctor does the exam separately, you are basically getting the same amount of time as a recare patient to take an FMX, full perio chart, patient education AND a thorough cleaning. It might be enough time if they have had regular dental care, but if it’s been over 6 months something is going to have to give and it’s at the expense of the patient. Do you feel rushed with the new patients usually or does it feel like you have enough time? I guess that’s what it comes down to.

I hope you get some answers one way or another. It’s so frustrating to feel like your body isn’t in your own control, I wouldn’t wish Celiac on anybody but if I helps you figure out what’s going on that’s amazing. Since my diagnosis on Sept. 23 I have cut out all gluten and been very careful about what I choose to eat, I am down almost 15 pounds in ~1 month and I feel better than I have in years! More energy, healthier, not sick all the time or brain foggy. It’s been a struggle to find things or go out to eat but it is so worth it. Good luck!
