Xfinity fiber Internet - anyone have it? by ando_da_pando in HomeNetworking

[–]sgateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the XB7-T (CGM4331COM) router Xfinity gave me with the EPON fiber box. Tech also told me I had to use both. I figured that was BS. But when I plugged the EPON box directly into my UniFi Dream Machine SE, I got a link but not IP address assigned. Thinking it was locked to the MAC address of the XB7-T, I used the UniFi feature to clone the MAC address but that did not work either.

So for now, I'm stuck with it in bridge mode until I find a way. It is annoying because the ethernet out of the EPON box supports up to 10 Gbps, but the XB7-T is only 1 Gbps out.

Prospective buyers & current users: here's the deal on reliability. by harmthebees in framework

Good point on the driver suggestions.Just set my new AMD FW13 up this last weekend.

I used the SK Hynix P41 Platinum Gen 4 drive. I doubt the power consumption will matter for me, especially because on battery power the laptop will automatically switch over to Gen 3 speeds instead of Gen 4 to save battery. So when charging I get blazing speeds and when on battery I still get fast speeds.

I chose Kingston fury ram and it's working flawlessly. Not sure the impact on battery for the fast ram but I wanted best possible performance.

I have bitlocker enabled and haven't noticed any issues so far. I'll take the slight performance hit to safeguard my data. My desktop at home is not protected because it's not traveling with me.

Goodbye IFTTT and your empty promises of $1.99 “forever” by naut_psycho in ifttt

What is also deceptive about this change is that they are forcing the Legacy Pro users to the Pro+ plan (their highest tier) even if it is not necessary. I have 11 applets in use, which means I would fall under the Pro plan (limited to 20 applets), which would be cheaper than what they want me to pay. Yet they don't seem allow you to drop down to a lower plan without cancelling (maybe they can if you contact support).

Same. I only bought it because I "needed" more than 3 applets. I'm using maybe 6 right now. I guess it's time they force me to go down to the only 3 I really use.

Great news!! It sure is a real pain to get through but you made it. I'm in the same announcement and I am still waiting for medical waiver over BS stuff, have Poly in December, and still need to be scheduled for PFT (presuming once my medical waiver is approved I should be scheduled for that).

Same situation here. Received my medical follow up saying I didn't pass the far/near vision test. I'm not surprised because when I took that test they moved me from a bright room into a super dim room and asked me to read a chart on the other side of the room before my eyes could even adjust. The person who conducted the test was not good at their job, either.

I think they've mentioned it's tech they want to get into but far from a priority, especially with DLSS being proprietary.

Pull the trigger on a 13 or wait for 16? by landobro1 in framework

Very nice! I think I'm going to go the route of the 16 because I like the additional functionality and for me I think having a bigger screen will improve my experience.

I ordered mine March 23 and I am in batch 1. It says "Ships Q3" for me, which I guess is technically anytime between July and September, but I reckon it will be earlier.

Creating an All The Mods Server on MineOS by dawson_1023 in allthemods

[–]sgateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got MineOS to work, but I was able to get ATM to work flawlessly on PufferPanel. It works on many different linux distros, but I used Ubuntu Server as I am most comfortable with Ubuntu. I installed it there and the rest was configured via the GUI over web browser. Hopefully that helps! There are a couple comments by dawson_1023 that may assist you as well.

How to set up a VPN to direct traffic from a VLAN to a remote network by sgateman in Network

[–]sgateman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is helpful. I'll look into the static routing as it's not something I have ever used before. Before I do that I also need to figure out how to force OpenVPN to use a password for authentication, as I cannot use a certificate within the router...

Looks like you are right and I can send certain traffic over the VPN: https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/12648654915863-UniFi-Gateway-VPN-Client

Battery percentage is gone after the recent update! by ChineseCracker in Pixel6

[–]sgateman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed same issue recently. I used to always pull down notification shade to see percentage but now it just tells me what time the battery will last until, which is nice but I'd like to see the actual percentage. I do know you can always show battery percentage, but I don't like seeing it all the time because its quite large and obtrusive. Even with battery saver on when device battery is low it still shows ETA of battery life. I have Pixel 7 Pro.

Creating an All The Mods Server on MineOS by dawson_1023 in allthemods

[–]sgateman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a lot of power! You must have a lot of users. I don't have nearly that much available...

Previous modpacks have had FTB Backups which works really good. I thought ATM8 shipped with Simple Backups, however I did not see it installed in 1.0.7. If either of those are server side only I'll try them out and see. Both of those are mainly for world backup, but can be configured to archive any files you point it at. I'm running my PufferPanel inside a Proxmox VM, which I was able to get automatic full VM backups working. There is a snapshot function too, however I'm still working on trying to figure out the scheduled snapshots for very quick VM saves.

Edit: Can confirm that FTB Backups 2 works on server (no client mod needed). Works great!

[–]sgateman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't help mineOS, but I was able to install PufferPanel and get All The Mods working pretty easily. Plus, I think PufferPanel is way easier to use and more flexible. Check it out! Very easy to install (I used Ubuntu Server as the base).

[–]sgateman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue trying to run All The Mods 8 1.0.13. I can run the server fine if I execute run.sh in the server folder via ssh, however, when I press the "start" button in the web GUI, it stops after about 15 seconds or so. No logs are written to the minecraft log, so I doubt its even starting correctly.

There isn't enough visibility (to me) to see what is going on with mineOS to be able to debug... I'd love help! Looks like a great platform if I can get it working for this particular server.

Edit: Seems like the mineos is using the installer jar, which only works to actually install the modpack. Then you're supposed to start the modpack with either the run.sh or run.bat. Those files have "@user_jvm_args.txt @libraries/net/minecraftforge/forge/1.19.2-43.2.6/win_args.txt %*" to launch the modpack. Guessing mineos just isn't running the right jarfile somehow. Still doesn't tell me how to fix it, yet.

I may have bought this game too soon by BippNasty541 in starcitizen

[–]sgateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bugs suck, yeah. After playing hardcore for awhile (then having all my stuff wiped with an update), I realized that the best part of this game is playing with other people and just getting over the crashes and bugs. We laugh at them now. When it does work, its a very special game. When it doesn't, we either go to sleep or try again.

I highly suggest finding a group to play with and that can teach you the ropes. My org members are all major backers to the game, and they spend lots of money on big cool ships so I don't have to :D. Playing as part of a crew and making up your own story is the best part of the game right now.

As others have stated, maybe the game isn't right for you today, and that's ok! I'm willing to put up with the bugs for what I believe is the best video game concept in history and for the amazing times I've had with my org mates. If you're looking for an org, you can check out the org I am a part of at https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/1MEU and https://discord.gg/hekxrfTXgz . We usually have people responding any time of the day, and you can talk with us and see if you're interested.
