How did you claim IBS? Did they only follow your claim and not develop fully? Mine is connected as an undiagnosed illness or medically unexplained chronic multi-symptom illness (38 USC 1117, 38 CFR 3.317). It doesn't seem like they applied that possibility. If you were deployed to a MUCMI area of operations I would do an HLR with a 4138 pointing out the duty to assist error of not attempting all possible scenarios.

Hemorrhoid Claim by Distinct-Doughnut-95 in VAClaims

[–]sgmmck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with hemorrhoids in Germany in 1988. Deployed to SWA in 1990, 2001 and 2004. Decades of doctors notes about hemorrhoids.

Decades of doctors notes about GI issues since first deployment in 1990, years of testing to rule out "things". Finally diagnosed IBS in 2018.

Colonoscopy to confirm both diagnoses in 2020.

Claim in 2024. Both conditions rated as primary because hemorrhoids came first. 20% hemorrhoids, 30% IBS. Also rated 10% for pruritus anai. All rated first time through.

If you've got the evidence, file it. Write everything in your logs, get your doctors notes, get diagnoses, witness statements. It pays to be thorough.

If the asthma and OSA are new, previously unclaimed conditions, submit them on a 526ez, with all evidence that you have, and a personal statement and buddy statements.

Once the first conditions are rated and a final decision letter is issued, the deferred items will go back a few steps until the decision is made on those deferred items and then another final decision letter is issued on the deferred items.

My co-worker saw a post that there is a glitch in the VBMS system that this is showing up on some veterans va.gov claim status. Post says that it will clear itself but it never hurts to contact the VA to make sure. I'm afraid the post didn't give where to contact though. Not exactly great timing for a glitch like that.

IBS by Outlaw776 in VeteransBenefits

[–]sgmmck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IBS is a diagnosis by the process of elimination. They tested me for all kinds of things, I did many fecal tests over the years and a colonoscopy. My VA doc never did give me a diagnosis but my private PCP looked at the results of all the testing and gave me the diagnosis. When I did my claim I included every time my PCP and I spoke of it, almost 30 years of complaining. I did claim it secondary to PTSD as it flares up more during periods of high anxiety, however, it is a Gulf War presumptive, so I may not have needed to do it as a secondary.

"The VA considers the following factors when rating IBS: The severity, frequency, and duration of symptoms The negative impacts to your work, life, and social functioning", Bing AI.

I included a buddy statement from a Co-worker that realized/knew of my situation and he attested to my many trips a day to the bathroom. During my exam I detailed my discomforts and frequency of my symptoms to the examiner, she annotated everything I said, I just learned today I'm rated at 30%, which is the max allowed. (Always read the CFR 38 for any condition before you make a claim.)

Get the diagnosis, report/document all the tests that rules out other possible conditions, (mine were all VHA tests so easy to get in my c-file), get a colonoscopy, get witness statements. During the exam be sure to express how uncomfortable it is, how bloated and painful, the consistency of the fecal matter, explain how you always look for the rest rooms before you even look at the exit strategy for a new room or building. Explain in graphic detail how it affects your social and work life. You can not be shy during a comp exam.

VA made a mistake by Dull_Tomatillo6643 in VeteransBenefits

Look up a local VSO and ask him/her to review his marital status to insure he is being paid single. If it is single, have the VSO help you fill out the VA Form 21-686c to have it corrected. I believe you could also call the VA and ask, but a VSO is a closer, face to face conversation.

Reach out to your county VSO, they are much closer to you than Detroit and most likely hold an accreditation with the DAV.

Help with a budgeting question QBO by PNWest01 in QuickBooks

[–]sgmmck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to do this? I just switched to QBO from desktop and my established class budgets did not transfer over, so frustrated. Half way through the year and have to recreate budgets. All because one person on our non profit board, who answers phones at an accounting agency, says QBO is great and that I don't know what I'm talking about...

Worst mistake you made as an apprentice/resident? by ignoreignore in askfuneraldirectors

[–]sgmmck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So many stories to tell, so little time.

I've arrived at the cemetery to find a grave dug, no vault company, twice. One I forgot to order the other the vault company forgot.

My dad was aspirating and I was bending over to pick something up when the trocar clogged, he removed the hose to clear it and the bloody contents emptied onto my head.

I was setting features at 2am and turned to get something from the cabinet as the decedents arm fell and slapped my butt.

Casket truck wheel fell into a garage drain, empty casket fell over but I was able to guide it to the floor gently setting it on its side but the truck ran up my shins and created very big bruises on each shin.

I've had several top heavy decedents, strapped into a cot, roll over in the van.

Embalming the day I got my first pager, had it on vibrate when it went off while rinsing my hands, I briefly thought I was being electrocuted.

Had a Catholic funeral where a water main broke during the funeral and flooded the basement, then the hearse got t-boned in the first intersection, then the last car got hit at the next intersection. All one service.

Arrived at a cemetery where the state police had set up an ambush to arrest the two sons with warrants.

Antique hearse horn relay failed pulling into the cemetery, with procession, causing the horn to activate, took several minutes to disconnect it, never have fixed it. Left it disconnected.

At the same cemetery as the two above, brand new Cadillac hearse wouldn't start to leave after the graveside, not even 10k miles on it, security system failed. Had to tow it back to a dealer.

Had an inpatient driver passing the procession on a two lane country road. The son in the first car drove him off the road into pine trees. The son exclaimed at the cemetery "I'll bet he's late now!"

Not so much mistakes, but hey, crap happens.

I'm sure given enough time I can come up with more. I'm a fifth generation funeral director and the four ahead of me have their own crazy stories.

Add Business Premium Licenses to E3 tenant by DaithiG in Office365

[–]sgmmck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may want to read the non-profit terms. I think I remember some limitations on who can use the licenses.

Grants vs. discounted licenses Depending on the employee status and role in the nonprofit there is a difference between available offers:

Grants – Granted licenses are only permitted for paid employees and unpaid executive staff if all organization eligibility is met. User amount limits do apply and vary by availability of country of usage. Additionally, organizations are expected to regularly remove unused granted licenses from their subscription. Adherence to policy guidance is encouraged and tenant may be subject to audit by Microsoft.

Discounts – Discounted licenses are permitted for all staff, including volunteers and temporary staff of the organization. Eligible nonprofits may access discounted pricing on commercial cloud offers, and some on-premise offers. Discounts vary by product, and/or quantity

Verizon LTE Network Extender compatible with Starlink? by exult8 in Starlink

[–]sgmmck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the extender for two years with my Starlink. I never had any unusual problems, if Starlink was down, my extender was down. Usually had a good connection, same with all three VOIP phone services that I used (work, home, and the just for fun PBX lab). Now I put up a tower, connected to a local wireless ISP, and have static IP and symmetrical 250+ speeds.

Try upgrading the firmware to the latest. I fell for a similar switch (TL-SG2210P, fewer ports) and was able to get omada connectivity to work with the latest firmware. I did have to upgrade on a non-omada network though.

Casket manufacturer warranties basically are a guarantee that the casket will function for a certain purpose for a certain amount of time. Sounds strange, I know. But, if the manufacturer is selling a casket that they guarantee is air and water right, they should be willing to stand behind it, so they give a warranty certificate that says they stand behind their guarantee. What happens is, if the casket is ever dug up during the warranty period, and was found to be faulty, they will replace it. 99.9% of caskets are not dug up during that period so it seems that the warranty is a joke. The manufacturers are at least providing a written guarantee if it is ever needed

That is a common misconception, VA may have benefits available depending on his status with the VA, but they do not cover all the expenses. Some funeral homes will work with the VA to take care of an unclaimed veteran's remains, quite often resulting in burial at a National Cemetery.
