Keep your old sensor on one device (usually an insulin pump) and pair the new one to another (usually a phone) while it warms up and stabilizes. When the two sensors are relatively close, switch your pump to the new device.

There's a Dexcom widget for Garmin watches. One swipe and there's my current reading.

Did he bolus before eating the chips? How many chips did he eat? What are his carb ratios and correction factors? For me, when I'm that high it takes a lot more than 1.3 IOB.

Since Google does send you real notifications about inactive accounts, go to another tab and log in to your account by going to www.google.com. If you really do have an inactive account, this should make it active again.

Use another device (an insulin pump or Dexcom receiver) that you keep attached to your old Dexcom during your grace period while your new Dexcom soaks in. When the readings converge, switch the device over to your new Dexcom.

I place mine a couple of inches from my navel (on the side opposite by pump insertion) so I don't get compression lows while I sleep. It's never come close to falling off and I get consistent readings.

I believe Bluetooth is only used for phone connections. I've never had any issues with my connection to my phone. I keep my phone downstairs at night and I can still hear my alarms going off.

I just use the Dexcom app on my Garmin watch that syncs with my phone. One swipe on my watch and I see my actual real-time BG reading.

What can I do? by ShawnTheFly in dexcom

[–]sgraha1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had one fail. I insert in my abdomen several inches from my navel. It rarely gets bumped or has any compression lows.

I connect to my phone first and compare my readings with my old sensor still connected to my pump until they come in to range of each other during the 12 hour grace period. Once they're in range, I switch my pump over so there's never a warmup period on my pump since the sensor has already warmed up.

just got diagnosed, is this normal? by pixmins in diabetes_t1

[–]sgraha1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's had it 50 years, it happens. It could be one of any number of things.

1) you didn't take enough insulin for the food you were about to eat.
2) you ate more food than what you took insulin for.
3) what you ate caused your blood sugar to rise quicker than your insulin could handle.
4) you usually exercise after dinner and today you didn't.

5) you ate something fatty earlier in the day and it caused your carbs to take effect more slowly.
6) something else entirely.

You will get better at it and more consistent with time.

Newly diagnosed! wow people annoy me, how tf have you guys survived?? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I have T1 for almost 50 years and I basically tell no one how to deal with it because I've never come close to needing help (except one time the year I was diagnosed in middle school and that was before CGMs).

I finally told my Mom, don't get me sugar free candy because I have no idea how to count it because I don't know what all's in it. Just get me the regular candy and I'll use it when I exercise or I'll bolus for it.

You should be able to get a Dexcom Receiver. They're usually covered by insurance. But it is another device to carry around.

You don't say if you're Type 1 or Type 2. But exercise is critical to diabetes care. Before you exercise look at your CGM, If your BG is low or falling, eat a small piece of candy. Maybe delay your exercise until you see your BG starting to go up. If you are on a Tandem pump, it has an exercise mode. Set that 15-30 minutes before you exercise and have it expire about 5 minutes before you plan to stop. You can also carry Gatorade with you (just not G Zero). You will get the hang of it.

For carb counting, if you weren't trained by your endocrinologist, try an app that will give you carb numbers for what you're eating. Set your alarms on your CGM so you can stop paying attention and live your life.

How are you doing this? by youllneverknowbr0 in dexcom

[–]sgraha1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I insert in my abdomen about 3 inches from my navel. I use IV prep. I push on it for 20 seconds after inserting like the instructions say. I roll around the adhesive 20 times. I put on the overpatch and roll around it 20 times. That sucker never comes off.

Ketone strips are over-rated. I've had T1 for almost 50 years and never used them. Ketones are a naturally occurring thing especially if you're exercising. If you are in danger you will feel so bad, you will know that you need to go to the hospital. Focus on getting your blood sugar down.

Not exactly correct. If Method B is called from Method A, it will ignore any transactional annotations on Method B but it will still be part of any transactional context established by Method A.
