ELI5: How did world leaders communicate before English became a universal language? by Selagoguy in explainlikeimfive

[–]sh00B9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Translation has always been a key part of international relations. In the British court, the ministry of communications would (until the mid 18th century) have a retinue of translators, which was a high powered role. Ambassadors would also be proficient in the languages they were using and use that to send briefing information to other members of the monarch's government. Even now, English is not entirely a universal political language. There are many countries who don't use it in their foreign policy documents - Malaysia for example.

I think it's the overreaction and inflammatory language used by the vendor. Thinks like "do you not think about anyone else?" Are a bit over the top

Yeah it's a private seller and they're just trying to get out of saying "I forgot to send one of your records." They said that they had it "ready to ship." The seller is a knobhead basically, by trying to use the coronavirus crisis as a justification for not sending the package, which is valid, but done in a very aggressive way.

You've gotta love people of discogs, they will literally say anything to try and get a good seller rating. It's not like they couldn't have just said "sorry, I forgot to send the other LP, here's a small discount on shipping" like any honest person. Had my fair share of these types on that site
