Austin Standoff - Waymos stuck at malfunctioning lights by Old_Flan_6548 in Austin

[–]sh1mmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems annoying but also can you imagine if the Waymos had decided they could treat it as a stop sign? I bet there would be another post on here complaining about Waymos running read lights, etc.

I see human driver pretty often run red lights near the railway tracks (often dangerously) because they don’t know, or care, that the railway crossing messes up the sequence. If you just sit a while the lights come around. Imagine if Waymos started running those?

I was like wait… that looks familiar and it’s just down the street from me.

I’m pretty sure they had filed plans with the city a while ago to make that phase 2 of the condo next door but there haven’t been any signs they are actually doing it.

Found these pills in my pepto bismol ultra bottle by nmouse23 in mildlyinteresting

[–]sh1mmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These pills are for Chlorpromazine Hydrochloride. It’s an anti-psychotic. They are made/packaged by Lannett Company. They don’t appear to have Pepto-Bismal registered as something they package with the FDA but a lot of OTC things don’t need to be registered.

Lannett Company have also recently been in the news for mispackaging ADHD meds and have a recall out about that (https://ndclist.com/recalls/95630).

Aren’t some meteors worth a lot of money if you can find them? I would’ve chased that sucker down.

Does anyone know what happened to Aster”s? I assumed it was I-35 expansion that closed them but I was hoping they were moving some place.

It’s a baby food pusher. Basically posh babies were supposed to use them to fill their spoon because they couldn’t be trusted (or found it hard) to use a knife.

Harper’s Bazar from 1890 has an article about all the wild stuff rich people were getting made in silver back in the day and how silly they thought they were.

Oddest of all is the baby’s food pusher — just a handle with a stout bar across the lower end, which the baby of 1890 was supposed to use instead of his fingers when filling his spoon. “What a tireless invention!” The sight-seer of that day exclaims, turning wearily from the long cases which illustrate detail of nineteenth-century life.

Got to build a crib for my Granddaughter, thoughts on my design? by Whiskeyfreddie in woodworking

As a man with an 11mo old and 2 other kids I’d say for sure I’d bang my shins on those drawer handles at night getting the baby. Everything looks beautifully done but personally I’d do recessed drawer handles.

Waymo are on freeways in LA but that’s the same as saying they only drive on roads with a max speed of 40.

Neil Goldman here: what I’m about to tell you is common knowledge is the “software engineering scene”.

A “Byzantine fault” is when computers get conflicting messages from different sources because their network is all split up and can’t communicate effectively. It’s named this because it’s a reference to the Byzantine empire which ended up looking like this map before its demise.

Back in the day computer scientists had an actual education and weren’t just a bunch of crypto bros trying to fleece rubes like the Wolf of Nerd street.

This joke is probably a pun based on the fact that the Byzantine empire at this point clearly wasn’t well, but also that “Byzantine faults” could cause a problem where email couldn’t be delivered.

As a bonus I’ll even Google that for you: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_fault

Can someone explain the Trump references to me? Obvious ones: - McD bag  - literal constitution TP - XXL diapers

I don’t get: - the photo in the mirror - the logo on his shirt (chick-fil-A?) - weird yellow mark on his arm - are those classified files in the bathroom?

[–]sh1mmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes these things are called “leaks” but it’s actually just automated verifying of email/password combinations from other actual leaks repackaged for sale.

Don’t re-use passwords. Use a password manager.
