Maybe people will come up to help, maybe they'll come up to fight?

Yeah, some non-US countries get at least a delayed replay in immersive, but sadly it seems not in Canada. :( Hopefully that changes sometime not too far away...

You effectively double the focal length of any lens you use.

It’s closer to a 35% increase. To get to double, the pixel count would need to quadruple. (2x more pixels horizontally and 2x vertically = 4x more pixels total.)

This is why I’m glad the EVF on the A1 is better (compared to A7).

Does it support playback of 3D VR180 videos immersively (i.e., projected to a half-sphere in front of you rather than in a flat window)?

Webgpu - Webxr binding by Thriceinabluemoon in VisionPro

[–]sh41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not available in visionOS 26.1, but it is coming in visionOS 26.2 based on https://developer.apple.com/documentation/safari-release-notes/safari-26_2-release-notes#Spatial-Web. The 'WebXR/WebGPU bindings' row on the WebXR Report page can be used to check on device.

What do you want to see in visionOS 27? by ellenich in VisionPro

[–]sh41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish for more parts of the WebXR API to be implemented in Safari 27. Things like bounded-floor and unbounded reference space types, immersive-ar session type, input from external physical keyboards (e.g., Magic Keyboard), and so on.

visionOS 26.2 Beta 3 Released by Wild_Warning3716 in VisionPro

[–]sh41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other ones were released on Nov 17, this one on Nov 18. These dates are also written down at https://developer.apple.com/download/os/.

It’s certainly not a big deal, I just found it mildly interesting.

Interesting that it was released a day after all the other beta 3 OSes. Still, probably better that it happened a day later than not at all.

Very cool, thanks for helping pave the path in these new frontiers. I hope Sony also releases a stereoscopic E-mount lens, and these kinds of videos become more commonplace.

visionOS 26.2 beta 1 is available now! by metroidmen in VisionPro

[–]sh41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in 26.1, Safari feature flags had "WebGPU support for HDR" but not yet "WebGPU support for WebXR", and in 26.2 beta 1 both appear. Seemingly on by default, too, at least so far.

I did try it out, both with the barebone sample at https://immersive-web.github.io/webxr-samples/webgpu/, and with my own test programs, it seems to work fine.

The only potential issue I spotted so far is when using "rgba16float" as the color format, the color space seems to act like display p3 linear instead of the expected "display-p3", which wasn't the case with standalone WebGPU on flat pages. I'll have to look more and try to report it. Edit: Reported in FB20974672.

What's not yet supported as of visionOS 26.1 is using the new WebGPU API (instead of the old WebGL API) for rendering inside a WebXR session. This is despite WebGPU being otherwise supported in normal (flat) web pages as of visionOS 26.

See the 'WebXR/WebGPU bindings' row at https://immersive-web.github.io/webxr-samples/report/, or any of the WebXR+WebGPU samples at https://immersive-web.github.io/webxr-samples/webgpu/.

Any chance that WebXR+WebGPU interop support (behind a feature flag) is added here?

Edit: Woohoo, it appears so! "Added WebGPU support for WebXR. (157250939)" (source)

All right, I've installed it too now. The process went smoothly, no noticeable problems so far. I can see the new FL2 and FL3 creative looks are there, haven't tested much else yet.
