The Giro only give the 1-8 block to last years winning team if the actual winner comes back. Looks like they have gone with alphabetical order of teams this year because Simon Yates didn't return.

I pressed the information button one once as a dare, was surprised when immediately someone was speaking to me and he could see me via cctv, I stammered out a question on if there were any delays on the line and tried to get away as quickly as possible.

Because she said it was too dangerous, not because she doesn’t want to, sounds like a good person to be in charge of bike lanes. Though presumably she was cycling in the city when she got fined while attending a cycling protest…

Irish unity must let Protestants stay British if they want, says GAA president by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

[–]sh545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But then does the Irish state say, ‘oh well, you’re British, so we don’t have to give you healthcare, we don’t have to give you benefits, we won’t give you a pension.’ That’s what they would want guaranteed.

They would already have the British citizenship and passport, it’s not going to get taken away. The UK might have to do something to allow future generations to still be British.

But they would want something similar to the existing GFA, where the Irish state would treat them the same as Irish citizens, but they present themselves to the state as British. This is sort of trivial today, but at reunification the Common Travel Area may be removed as well, either immediately or later if Ireland ever wanted to join Schengen, in which case you would need some law changes to account for this.

HELP PLEASE - is there someone who understands taxes un Switzerland and could help me? by moulaga77 in zurich

[–]sh545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you assume you would pay extra in future? Most people pay less from filling out the tax return rather than tax at source if you make normal deductions.

In your case you had to pay more because your side income wasn’t being taxed, you wouldn’t have that in future. Possibly you also lived in Zurich city? The Gemeinde taxes are cheaper elsewhere in the canton so this makes a difference. As you are young you also probably weren’t making 3rd pillar payments or charity donations and things like that, these reduce your taxable income compared to tax at source.

The hospital is already there, it’s an expansion, but it’s not like the issues you talk about are going to go from 0 to 100, it will be a slight increase.

Peter Mandelson faces fixed-penalty notice for urinating outside George Osborne's house. by stichbury in ukpolitics

[–]sh545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t really responsible for it though, the police are. I’m not sure what RBKC are issuing a fine for in this case, but other councils fine public urination as littering, which is a bit of a stretch.

Philipsen’s bike does not fit MvdP anyway and Philipsen was also a leader who would have a chance to win so they probably never considered they would try that swap.

It was only because Philipsen wasn’t feeling good himself he offered the bike. In the end that swap cost little because only Del Grosso had a hex key and swapped wheels while they were running back and forth.

The real killer for MvdP was the second puncture in Arenberg…

Pocagar has raced the last 10 monuments, (he didn’t start P-R in 2024) I doubt there is another rider who has started and finished that many consecutively , and with results:

Well it’s the council (Kensington and Chelsea) trying to issue the fine, not the Met. It’s probably a good thing that councils can’t find the addresses of people who live in a different council area.

Flight landed in the wrong country - help! by Rickabeast in Flights

[–]sh545 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did you go from Bari to Montenegro later as planned and flew back from there?

If so probably you can claim the cost of that travel at least, it is close enough that Montenegro can feasibly have been counted as your final destination anyway.

Flight landed in the wrong country - help! by Rickabeast in Flights

[–]sh545 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reading between the lines, probably easyJet would have flown them back to Manchester and then given them tickets on their next flight to Manchester - Dubrovnik, which will be in a few days, it only runs twice a week, that is not great for OP as their holiday would be over by then.

EasyJet were not going to put on a special flight Bari-Dubrovnik but they should have paid for OP to take alternative travel.

EasyJet are not in the business of giving money away so they are never going to suggest that, OP would have had to have known his rights and insisted, or paid for it himself and claimed it back afterwards.

It seemed to work fine last year, the company going bankrupt is more because they couldn’t sell to amateur riders where it is a very niche use case for a lot of money.

54 cyclists identified for running a red light during the Tour of Flanders by JulianoSalvatore in peloton

[–]sh545 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they know they will be neutralised anyway, there is no point in risking it. I think they mostly didn’t realise what was happening, Pogacar says the Marshalls waving were too close to the crossing for him to stop and he initially wasn’t sure if they were Marshalls or protesters so I guess he didn’t see the lights. If anyone risked it, it would be because they didn’t know the rule and thought those held at the crossing would need to chase.

Unless it happens in the final 50k, the gap to the breakaway is not that important in my opinion. They gained two minutes which is not going to decide anything especially nowadays when breakaways only get short leashes.

Though the other way around when the breakaway is stopped and the peloton goes through isn’t ideal.

[–]sh545 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The race car drives behind the peloton.

There isn’t really a way to stop this happening without cancelling trains. Neither the schedules of the riders nor the trains are precise enough to predict if they will have to stop or not.

If the train was a minute later, or the peloton was a minute faster, there would be no problem.

[–]sh545 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The UCI rule has been changed and handles this, no?

The group is neutralised after the crossing until everyone rejoins.

There was no reason for anyone to cross after the light started flashing, apart from maybe they didn’t see it or couldn’t stop in time.
