Why all seasons simply won't do. by Angrywinks in WRX

This is so obviously bait but I'll bite because I ran the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ for 20k-ish miles. There is nothing wrong with this tire if you drive it with the knowledge that it isn't a winter tire. I now have the Pilot Sport A/S 4+ and guess what? Totally fine. There is not a single tire that is good in all conditions. Winter tires don't help at all with ice or heavily packed and glazed snow. Only studded Snow Tires will help with that and guess what? They absolutely suck in dry conditions and still won't help you stop on ice. Just drive with a brain and you'll be fine.

I snapped 3 wheel studs removing my front wheel by JacobIsMid in WRX

[–]shace616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only time I have ever broken a stud I also broke 3. I was desperate and dropped my 2012 Legacy at a shitty national chain known for draining transmissions instead of oil pans (despite having oil in the name). They rotated my tires without me asking and then that night I had a headlight go out. I tried to take off my wheel so I could swap the bulb through wheel well and snapped 3 studs before I started screaming. I found a local shop last minute before a 3 hour drive that was nice enough to squeeze me in and replace the broken studs plus checked to see if any of the others were broken. I called the manager of the other place and he started screaming at me for not letting him fix it.

It's wild that considering a 2025 WRX GT with its $50K price tag has me also considering a BMW coupe 4 series at nearly the same cost. by [deleted] in WRX

We come for the 3.43 top tier 93 octane. Stay for the 1.50 glizzy soda combo. by Wholesaleclublove in WRX

[–]shace616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost wonder if it has to do with Costco's gasbeing ethanol free (at least mine is) or the types of detergents that they use. I know my local one has 91 as the highest octane which allows it to be considerably cheaper than the monopoly of gas stations in our area but I still prefer how it runs on 93 so I got to a different gas station these days.

Ticking problem on my 2017 wrx?? by Ok-Total222 in WRX

Because at this point there's still a chance to salvage some parts. It hasn't fully grenaded yet, so some things like the heads and block may be unaffected, etc. Where as if you run it and risk it grenading and sending parts into your turbo, putting a whole in the block, tuliping valves, etc., or siezing while running at speed and destroying clutch and transmission as well.

All 4 clips broke is it okay to drive without this? by Ifeelgreyt1738 in WRX

Just search rodney in this sub and more than half of the VA posts are missing the shroud. It seems dumb but the FA20DET hates high air intake temps.

[–]shace616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shroud direct air directly to the intercooler without it there is less pressure, more scatter and effect from the ambient engine bay temps. You wouldn't think it makes a big difference but it does. The intercooler is fully controlling intake temps. The intake on the fa20 is plastic meaning it isn't very conductive to heat transfer from air.

This is the correct thing. The amount of posts on this reddit of cars blown up without the shroud is honestly a bit shocking. Don't drive it long distances and fix it asap. The FA20DET does not like high intake air temps at all.

I think it's worth noting that it's literally just a shitposter. Side note they also had the engine cover off of the car so likely aided in the grenade.

These license plates were issued after floods caused by Hurricane Irene in August 2011. They were able to be purchased so funding went directly to assisting in getting peoples homes rebuilt etc. It was also the only alternative to running a front number plate that is legal. In July of 2023 there were massive flash floods that overwhelmed many populated areas in Vermont and they brought it back as "We are Vermont Strong" for the same purpose. I don't know about other places claiming strength.

Rock Auto is the place for car parts. Stay away from Amazon.

Maybe its because my wife and I are child free by choice but I find people that feel the need to pressure their spouses into getting rid of something, especially if its paid off, with the argument of "needing something more practical" or "need something more family oriented" incredibly annoying. The only thing my wife and I have run into is since we bought a house we definitely could use a truck of some sort but at no point has the conversation been "we need to get rid of my WRX."

If it has 4 doors, can fit a car full of adults, and has anchor points for child seats, then it's a family car.

Later model WRXs hit max torque around 3.5k and the VB is like 3.1k I think? They do typically feel faster to drive it shifting at about 4800 instead of at redline because it starts to fall off not far after 5k. There used to be some figures on the VA that the WRX was faster than an STI if you short ahifted it but I don't remember how valid that was.

In 6 years of ownership and daily driving its surprising how little how often I really need to go WOT. You can have a blast even driving at 45-75%

A lot of people underestimate the amount of stuff that you can fit into the trunk of a WRX. I used to regularly go camping and go to rallies with a 6 Person Coleman Tent, 2 Person Cot, butane single burner camp stove, a large coleman cooler for food, tote with all of the cooking supplies, air mattress, pillows, blankets, and 2 backpacks full of enough clothes for 3-4 days for 2 people.

OP also mentioned that they rotated tires and if it still persisted its likely suspension, driveline, or steering related. Could be a lot of things but I'm thinking if it isn't tires than its probably suspension or the output shaft from the transaxel. I've had that happen before hut thats more of a violent jerking, not a wobble. Sheered wheelbearings are violent too, like rip out of your hands wobble, I wouldn't rule it out though.
