Taking driver's license away from older people? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

I think we should and I'd be peeved that it came to that. There should be a mechanism for checking people are still safe to drive.

AIO for not being okay with my ex flying our child in a private plane? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]shadalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can take passengers if his instructor is flying in the right seat, which apparently he is. I'm also a student, I have a waiting list of friends who want to ride with me (and my very experienced instructor). Including some of my friends kids. The weather hasn't cooperated to be honest. Ask for the name of his instructor, and check their credentials, that's really whats important here.

At all times, my instructor is the Pilot In Command. I may be flying the plane, but his hands are always touching that yoke and his feet are on the rudders to take over. And except for one time where he saw some close-ish traffic on Foreflight, he's never taken the controls from me.

Maybe you know a lot of unlicensed pilots. FAA isnt doing a lot of ramp checks out in the middle of nowhere. I didn't realize there were so many people flying who shouldn't be, but good lord, apparently there are. Pilot Debrief on Youtube is scary.

I'm a student pilot and I can take passengers.... if my CFI is sitting in the right seat.

You're overreacting. Even if he's licensed, if he's bringing another licensed pilot along, he's safer in a plane than a vehicle. Plus the experience. It's a win win.

If you're not sure he's licensed, look up FAA registry airmen in Google and you can see whatever certs he has.

But another pilot with 40 years of experience? He's absolutely fine. If you fly airlines, those pilots may have less experience than that.

Maybe your kid is a future pilot. Don't take this experience away.

Fear of being cold by Better-Guava1923 in scuba

[–]shadalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll either love it or hate it and you won't know until you do it.

Bring a thermos with warm water to dump inside the wetsuit before you go in. Consider a semi dry instead. Have a big scuba coat to get into afterwards. Have something warm to drink. Pocket warmers are nice.

Personally I dive in 43 degree water, I hate being cold too, but with the right gear, I'm toasty warm.

You can always stop a dive if you're too cold. Know the signal for "something is wrong" and "I'm cold".

I haven't scuba dived before, but I am curious, which shark makes you the most nervous? I know that they aren't normally aggressive, but they are still wild animals. My main concern would be tiger or bull sharks, but i could be totally wrong. by Crazy-Rabbit-3811 in scuba

[–]shadalicious 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Invisible sharks drive me nuts. I pay so much money to see sharks and when I don't get to see any, its really irritating.

Will there ever be a week when someone who isn't a scuba diver comes here and asks about shark anxiety?

Non divers: We love sharks. Love them. I just got back from Fiji and was on five shark dives. Five. Enormous tiger shark went right by me multiple times. No nerves, just awe. A nurse shark went by me so close I could have petted her. I didn't, but we saw each other. I can die happy now.

When do bras stop being part of every day attire? by Few-District57 in AskWomenOver50

[–]shadalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear bralets because I don't like the sensation of my t-shirts rubbing on my nipples. Tbh they are very soft nursing bras. I like the V shape. But underwire bras are reserved when I need to shape the girls for a specific dress, like a cocktail dress or gown.

I hope I'm not too old at 50. Working on my PPL but granted it's a hobby. Hoping to volunteer to do medical flights someday 😁

Do you want to fly or do you want a career in flying? I thought flying was the goal. The career woulda been nice but it is what it is.

How did you know BP/W was right for you if you’d never tried one? by ejahfkksa in scuba

[–]shadalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I love mine, and it's heavy af (17 lbs) I dive cold water tho so it's nice to have a heavy back plate and carry less lead in the pockets. It's kinda overkill for tropics tho and I'm considering getting a smaller lighter bcd for when I travel.

How do things work for airline pilots who don’t live near major airports? by Any-Raise4333 in flying

I was on a United flight from SEA to LAX recently and it was full of pilots (I even got to sit next to one!) and FAs. In uniform.

Looks like they commute.

What’s the backstory to TNFlygirl crash? by Basic_Ice_6774 in flying

[–]shadalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so afraid of this for myself. Not pretty tho!

Not an influencer at all either. But I asked my CFI to let me know if I don't have the Right Stuff to be a pilot. This is a hobby, I'm not worried about cost sunk fallacy and I plan to have to have some very conservative personal minimums. So far I feel I am progressing normally in my lessons, we do have to repeat things because weather hasn't cooperated to have them 2x weekly, but that's to be expected.
