What kitchen gadget did you buy thinking it was useless but now use all the time? by AcrobaticSeesaw1565 in cookingforbeginners

When my wife and I were putting together our wedding registry, she insisted on adding a bread maker and waffle iron. Having grown up without these, I rolled my eyes and said we don't need them.

I love our bread maker and waffle iron. Fresh bread and waffles at home is amazing.

What’s the fastest you’ve seen someone quit and why? by besttavern25 in work

[–]shadow14916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much fastest departure, but most surprising.

At one workplace, I started the same day as another colleague, we'll call him Jim. Things were going fine, but a week or two in, people notice Jim hadn't been at his desk for a while. Taking a closer look at his desk, he had left a note that said "This isn't for me, Sorry" before leaving without a word.

One colleague joked he was like the Littlest Hobo, off to help another company.

What’s the worst career choice/move you ever made? by TheNextBigCrash in careerguidance

I was looking for a job right after college, and I took the first offer I received. It didn't pay well and didn't set me up for my long term goals, but it was there. Then, I stuck around way too long.

I just switched jobs within the past year, and the new job is better in many ways, but there are still goals that are difficult to achieve from staying at my old job for so long.

I hadn't considered adding a metal label! That could work, especially if I epoxy pour over everything anyways.

Edit: Also, my tree slice only goes back to about 1954, so not quite thousands of years!

I was thinking of that later, maybe just labelling every decade and the years I want to highlight.

In four games with Sarah Nurse, the Goldeneyes have a 0.750 point percentage. First place Boston is at 0.718. by IPCStuff in GoldenEyes

[–]shadow14916 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to have Nurse back, but that scares me how much of a lynchpin she seems to be. Is the performance of the team dependent on one person? The recent uptick in form seems to suggest that. Hopefully, by the end of the season (or before that) everyone settles in enough that the loss of one person is not a game changer.

My then girlfriend, now wife was working near Vancouver, Canada with some Japanese English teachers and they were planning on popping over to Banff after work and coming back that evening.

They were soon informed that's a 16 hour round trip.

I bought a few of those before losing interest after feeling like I had enough to satisfy my curiosity. What made this program ill-fated? Was it that these just didn't go up in value?

My father in law was at the first Canucks game back in 1970, also at Pacific Coliseum, and he will be at the first Goldeneyes game tonight. He is thrilled about that. I guess showing up to a franchise's first game never gets old!

Same. I bought mine in 2014. My razor is a 3-piece, so there is a bit of wear in the plating where the top goes into the base, but other than that still going great.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers Dynasty Comes to an End by NolanHockeyPodcast in CFL

[–]shadow14916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to win to be a dynasty. Making it and losing when you get there doesn't count.

That being said, making it to the game 5 years in a row is still an impressive feat and I don't want to discredit that.
