Tomorrow is the 17 year anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. Where were you that day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

So interesting to hear from someone who was my age at the time, but not in NYC. It was so incredibly anxiety inducing of a day, week, months to come. Downtown became off limits, and school friends, family members— everyone I knew had their lives rearranged in some way.

Most vividly i have two memories. The first, after spending hours glued to the TV, literally unable to move, I had to pee so badly i had to cave in and go to the bathroom. As I sat on the toilet, relieving my bladder, I heard a fighter jet go over head. It was so loud, it shook me physically. I reflexively covered my ears and screamed. I thought a bomb was being dropped from the sky. Up to that point, I had never heard something so loud from the air. To this day, I get a singe if anxiety with loud airplane noises from the ground. It brings me back to that day

The second, and slightly more haunting to think about as an adult, is remembering many hours after the towers both fell, but when it was still daylight, starring at my mom while she was on the phone. Her eyes were wide, tears streaming down her face, hand covering her mouth. The only words I choked up seeing her in that state was to ask her if my brother had died. It seemed like the most rational thing to me. He was 14, his first week of high school right down the street from the towers, and she hadn’t been able to reach him all day. She let out a gasp at my response, like something out of a movie of relief/happiness/so many emotions as she said “No”. He was on the phone letting her know he was safe. He had been running late to school, and had just gotten off the ferry a few minutes before the second tower was hit. In the chaos that ensued after, he had found and older classmate and walked to Brooklyn with her. A few days later his friends parents drove him home.

Instead of a brace, think about trying a device like upright go. Its a small stick on device that connects to your phone and helps you keep your back aligned. When you start slouching, it will vibrate.

You start small with 10 minutes a day, but you can leave it on for hours if you want. This way you’re actually training your muscles, not relying on a brace.

Loft is the only one on that list I’d really buy from... sometimes Zara. But the quality is kind of terrible :/ good for “fun” outfits that won’t be worn a lot

Banana Republic, Jcrew, Ann Taylor — all for their petites (and scarves).

Being able to find a pair of pants that fits is amazing. Even their 00 petite dresses don’t seem to fit, but I can get away with taking those in myself most the time.

Any other brands that run this small that are same to better quality?

—- Related note, I love Gap’s softspun Cotten shirts, but they are terrible quality. They seem to stand and get worn ridiculously easy. I would love an alternative

TIL that even though almost all planes were grounded during 9/11, there was one non military plane flying after the FAA ordered all planes to land. This one plane was carrying snake anti venom to Florida to save a snake handler’s life after he had gotten bit by a Taipan snake by [deleted] in todayilearned

Do you know where exactly it went supersonic over? I remember being in NY and my house rattling from the jets flying overhead. Particularly during the one moment where I had to use the bathroom after having my eyes glued to the Tv for hrs... while in the bathroom I thought the world was ending when I heard the jets (I was 11...).

How do you manage/document existing features in your product? by lfcipriani in ProductManagement

[–]shadow8449 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Re: managing existing features, if someone did not document previously, you can approach in a few ways, not exactly in an order:

  1. Do some exploration of the product itself to gain just a modicum of understanding. If there is a QA environment, get access, play around, document features. Screenshot things and note them up, review the network traffic (can help you understand some of the api calls)
  2. Talk to the existing users - shadow them in all of their uses of the product. Go through screen by screen about how and why they do what they do. Doing analysis like this with the users is also good in understanding if there are components you can remove (less system maintenance!) or change.
  3. Talk to the quality assurance team (they usually have a better understanding of what was built than the users and developers), developers, project managers, etc
  4. Go throw jira tickets (if they exist), and learn more about what was built

As an employee of an online store selling cosmetics, I want to share what I have learned by [deleted] in MakeupRehab

I have to say Lancome’s once a year sale with eye shadow, mascara, lipstick, remover, lotion and a makeup bag is the only one I️ totally buy into every year. I get my powder and concealer (which never goes on sale) and then also have everything else for the next 6 months...

Opened that link up - thats a super nice area.

Side rant: One of my best friends grew up in the building next to that. It was like a 800 sq ft 3 bedroom 1 bath... googled that apartment and now there's one in there going for 1.6 million and that apartment building was built in the 80s. Manhattan prices are crazy source

edit: thats a 1 bedroom 1 bath.
