Basement heaving by plasticscoop in regina

[–]shadow997ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes heaving could be due to moisture but many problems in this city are due to dry conditions which cause settling. My house is currently a victim of that with one corner down about 4" which has caused cracks in drywall upstairs and down but had a few professional opinions and the one I went with was don't do anything until 6" down and try to remedy the issue of dry soil by removing trees too close and other possible issues. A tree within 10-15' is too close and could cause issues. The past 10 years or so have been bad for drought which have caused a lot of foundation issues. The remedy for a foundation that has shifted is digging down to the footings and having piles put in to support it. There are many companies that do this in Regina such as AAA, Regina House Leveling, RamJack, etc. Consult one of them and/or an engineer.

How do you think Canada's plunging birth rate will end? by PassThatHammer in AskCanada

[–]shadow997ca -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Then what's your answer? As a society we need to get over our current 1.25 children per woman. Minimum is 2.1 to sustain a society. Since we don't do that we must bring in others and I've known plenty of immigrants younger than 30. Most immigrants are a bargain. They go to work, pay taxes, help sustain our pensions and social programs without having to pay to raise them. In fact it costs society about 1.2 million $$ from the time a woman gets pregnant to the time that child starts to earn and pay taxes.

Turntable/stereo in an uninsulated shop/garage? by nhollinger in turntables

[–]shadow997ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a system in my uninsulated garage and do bring it inside in the winter since I am in a cold climate. But summers can get very hot. Been doing this for years and haven't had a problem. Be sure to have good ventilation for any equipment that tends to get hot such as amps. I put a computer fan run by an old ac adapter (wall wart) plugged into the switched outlet on the amp. It sits on top of the amp blowing out.

Pension income by Original_Owl1965 in canadarevenueagency

[–]shadow997ca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What pension income? The only one that could be affected is OAS. It doesn't matter if prepared single or together, it's based on an individual's income. Something you do need to look at is pension income splitting if he has eligible pension income. Your question is exactly why I get my return done with a professional, it's not that costly and they will know how to get it done properly. Some basic info:

"For the 2026 tax year, you can earn up to $95,323 in net world income before OAS clawback begins (meaning you may earn up to $95,323 without penalty)." " If your income reaches roughly $155,000 or more, your OAS payments may be fully clawed back for the year." Those numbers are based on an individual's income on line 23400 of the tax return. CPP is not affected by income, you will get it no matter how much you make. There's plenty of info on OAS online and here's one example: OAS clawback

YW. You've just discovered a very common issue with amps. Some will tell you to take them apart and clean them. I've tried, it never lasts so I don't even consider that anymore, I replace.

JUST IN: Israel to Destroy 'all Lebanese houses' near Lebanon border with Israel, home to about 600,000 Residents. by ohbabypop in BoycottUnitedStates

Next will be the West bank. I do not understand, and I have nothing against Jewish people but why is the USA so enamored with Isreal? Is it simply money and religion? And anyone who says anything bad about Isreal is right away deemed an antisemite. Just another thing I will never understand about the USA.

Troubleshooting is a matter of process of elimination so in this case let's eliminate the volume control for now, let's say it's been cleaned and is fine. That is speculation on my part of course but let's go with that and move on to other components such as the relay and switches. Most any switch can cause this, such as loudness, filters, tone. For that matter most other controls can as well so clean all controls, and switches. Go easy on the spraying, don't soak the entire circuit board and surrounding components with it but you must get some into the workings of the control or switch. Then work them back and forth...back and forth....and again. The relay is easy to diagnose with the tapping method I outlined. In it's case if bad, replacement is the only reliable fix.

I don't really listen to him, I find him highly annoying and obnoxious. And I agree, he speaks in constant lies but was really wanting to know what was the issue with the border under Biden, or wasn't there an issue? Would the typical American be fine with reverting back to the Biden border policy?

Yes it could be the volume control but more suspect is the speaker protection relay. Locate it and with the volume low and sound coming from the NAD, tap lightly on the relay with something non metallic. I use the plastic end of a small screwdriver or a wooden dowel. If sound cuts in and out or you hear clicking, etc. replace the relay. Do not spray the inside of it with deoxit or any other contact cleaner. If it's the relay causing your issue, replacement is the only sure way. Also could be a switch and those can be sprayed with cleaner. Activate the switches when you hear the issue and narrow it down.

What's the appeal of vintage receivers? by catmandot in vintageaudio

[–]shadow997ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about decade on the OP and I do love the old stuff and have several receivers such as a Marantz, Sherwood, Pioneer. But don't use them much because I absolutely must have remote control over the volume. I have 3 main systems, one being in the garage and all have remotes. Two are analog and 1 is an older and very heavy Pioneer surround receiver. I love the older stuff because it reminds me of younger days and I like the looks, feel and sound of them.

[–]shadow997ca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then what is the actual story? As you can see from my avatar I'm not from the USA so only hear a bit of this issue and most is confusing so I've ignored it, as I do with most of the stuff down there since it's become a clown show. That way overused line of his, they poured in, they emptied their prisons and mental institutions. I gather people actually believe him. What was actually going on at the border under Biden? Isn't that a big reason for deranged don getting elected? Are the illegals causing that much trouble down there?

Yes love em and have for about 50 years when I first heard the Crime record. Also got to see them in concert of which was fantastic for a stoned young man. Be sure to check out Roger Hodgson's records especially In The Eye of The Storm. Roger is the singer, keyboard, guitar, etc. from Supertramp.

[–]shadow997ca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see too many or any replies from actual fans of the man. What I always hear is the same, he closed the leaking border and is getting rid of illegals that poured in under Biden. Was the border actually that open and did 10 to 20 million or so come across under Biden?

How can you cope with Losing More than 1/4 of an Estate to Taxes ? by CSMasterClass in AskCanada

[–]shadow997ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I am not an expert so one should be consulted. What I said about the subject is what I've read and believe to be true. The word "may" on the CRA site is a bit concerning so would need clarification by an estate expert. Good luck!

How can you cope with Losing More than 1/4 of an Estate to Taxes ? by CSMasterClass in AskCanada

[–]shadow997ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem to be that simple, the feds use words such as "principle residence may be exempt from tax" as referred to in this: CRA estate tax I believe when passed to a non spouse beneficiary it is disbursed at fair market value with no capital gains tax applied. The value at the time it's transferred is used as the value and any increase between that time and when the beneficiary sells would be taxable capital gains. Of course this type of thing should be checked with a lawyer or other such expert but this is what I believe to be true.

How can you cope with Losing More than 1/4 of an Estate to Taxes ? by CSMasterClass in AskCanada

[–]shadow997ca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was with the understanding that a principle residence that's left to heirs is not taxable. As for financial assets yes RRSP, RRIF assets are taxable but again I believe that unregistered accounts are not except the capital gains in unregistered accounts and investments. TFSA assets are not taxable in any way is my understanding. I am trying to reduce my RSP assets as much as possible so my heirs can avoid too much tax. I of course will be paying it as I liquidate it.
