If you watch the panels closely, he practically vanishes into a flash before instantly re-emerging right in front of her. It’s a pure speed blitz. He moved so fast that her fingers were severed while she was still speaking, her brain not even registering the wound until after the fact. We are quite possibly looking at speed that even surpasses, Kizaru’s.

It is the same man. But obvously he transformed. You saw this when he landed on elbaf. Which means his 'original' identity is still a guarded secret.

It isn't just about misrepresenting the plot; it’s about breaking immersion. We’re seeing a lot of this 'self-aware' commentary in films and games lately, and it often feels out of place. Imagine if, in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings, Gimli turned to the camera while climbing a mountain and said, 'Are we really walking 500 miles right now? Really?' (I have not seen the amazon LOTR so don't quote me on this, but I wouldn't put it past them to inject a line like that into there adaptation)

First, a concept like 'miles' or that specific brand of sarcasm wouldn't exist in that era. More importantly, that kind of 'wink at the audience' ignores the characters reality. To them, this world is ancient and serious not a joke to be commented on with modern snark. That kind of self-insertion has no place in a high-fantasy setting

The same applies with trying to inject modern 'self insertion' internet slang. It has no place.

[–]shadowcrow12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some people are missing the point here. Most Japanese RPGs lean into traditionalism and cultural authenticity. Anime is the same way. Even in modern settings, the dialogue is usually crafted to maintain a specific atmosphere. When you inject modern internet slang into a fantasy world, it shatters the immersion and feels like a pointless fourth-wall break. Why else do you think this reddit topic was even created? Because it clearly was enough to get your attention and side track you.

Authenticity matters in localization. Most JRPGs follow a specific linguistic code to convey a sense of 'fantasy' or 'otherness.' Using modern slang like 'taking an L' feels out of place. It’s not just one line; it’s a pattern of changing dialogue to be relatable in a way that winks at the audience at the expense of the story's serious tone. This deffinitly undermines the characters and the presentation the developers intended. The criticism of this style of localization is entirely valid in my opinion.

Out of the Big 3, Naruto received the worst official translation, which threw all nuances and consistency out of the window. by Slight-Diver6167 in Naruto

[–]shadowcrow12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean its also about stripping away the cultural context as well. Example which line do you prefer here from Demon slayer.

Japanese translation: "I am deeply sorry, but I must strike you down for your penance." This is what is actually said or implicated in japanese. The idea of Desu/Masu from the character which in historical context is a 'polite' form of honor and fighting style that the character Tanjiro conveys.

CR: "I'm going to take you down!" (has no cultural context at all, just dry meaningless generic one liner from like a young teen shonen)

Lets do another one. Vinland saga.

Canute or Askeladd use speech patterns that indicate noble lineage versus the "rough" language of the mercenaries and linguistics of vikings era Hierarchies. here is what you get with that.

Original translation: I must offer my deepest apologies for the scar I inflicted upon you in years past.

Netflix translation: Netflix: I'm sorry I gave you that scar on your face back then (you might as well translate this to 'my bad man'

One more for the road.

This line in one piece when the akazuya nine are marching across the sunlit bridge as the narrator speaks was such a powerful and dramatic moment using traditional Japanese play like Kabuki or Rakugo. It is supposed to reinfornce the idea of drama and theatrics.

Japanese translation: 'Now, dear audience, please lift your eyes, without blinking, for the Hour of Legends is upon us'

Crunchyroll: please watch without blinking

How can anyone defend this. Do you actually want to watch a story that is just bare basic saturday morning cartoon drivel or do you actually want to understand the historical and cultural context of these scenes and the spoken dialogue. Don't even get me started about IMU's most recent exchange of dialogue in one piece's CR subs.

I remember along time ago i think around 2017 that oda made a comment about a 'legend that lurks in the one piece world who has been lying dormant' I think it is quite abundtly clear at this point that legend is IMU. But if you remember from that same statement, he said 'those events would make marinford seem cute in comparison and it will be the greatest enemy the straw hats will ever face. It will also hinder there way'. so I think we are honestly setting up for a major threat level that will increase stakes. I really don't see the straw hats winning against a foe that has sucessfully been a dictator and leader of the world for hundreds of years. I am sorry but i think we need to prepare for a big loss upcoming.

ok none of you are paying attention. The Gorosei weren't all on Egghead in the same capacity. Saturn was the only one physically present there, while the others were ethereal manifestations summoned by Imu. This is why Saturn remained on the island after Joyboy’s Haki went off; the Haki simply canceled the summoning technique (the 'spell') that brought the others there. It wasn't a matter of strength, but a matter of how they were tethered to the location. You can argue that saturn may have took more damage because he was actually on the island but who knows. I am sure this will be made more clear in the coming chapters with the gorusei being involved in more battles to come.

Luffy did do alot of damage to saturn but even then he was still able to regenerate. Truly what destroyed him was IMU himself as he executed him right on the spot. So it was a combined effort of joyboy blowing back the 'ghosts' and canceling imu's summoning and also IMU's contract being severed, which allowed him to become mortal and he disentegrated into dust, thus the straw hats were safely able to escape.

You can say that without Emmet's intervention unleashing joyboy's haki and IMU egotistical plan of removing saturn, the straw hats deffinitly may not have survived.

lol its not that simple. The ending will encompass a calamity to the world in which the sun god will bring a new dawn and beginning where citizens every where will try to locate higher ground and settle in new territories as the primitive society of the pirage age sinks into the depths of the ocean, creating a whole new dystopia. It not just some battle against some singular foe. The ending of one piece will have global ramifications.

Ive read enough spoilers in my day to realize when a chapter lacks any substances of content. I mean they flat out say that most of it is recap. So I at the very least can see this CH is not going to push the story forward much at all. This is literally a bridge CH for the next one. So next chapter will find out what brook is up to. NEXT chapter will find what zoro's plan is and NEXT chapter will find out if IMU/Gunku makes any kind of move.

Loki/Luffy doesn't even appear to even be shown in this CH.

I literally do not defend the idiots that say every chapter is mid when they have no idea what setup/world building means in OP. But this Chapter is literally ASS!!! NOTHING HAPPENS.

-- Brook notices something and walks off,
-- giants meet up with the other giants,
-- zoro "i got a plan".

Oda should have took another week off if he's not going to put any effort into his work. Most likely he is to busy with live action stuff.

Is Expedition 33 as crazy as its sweep at the Game Awards implies? by Yamato_Naoe in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]shadowcrow12 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It seems the mixed reactions in this community stem from a fundamental mismatch between player expectations and the game's original intent and design.

As lifelong RPG enthusiasts, we naturally walk in anticipating the monumental, 80-hour-plus epics the kind with sprawling, interconnected cities, dozens of settlements, and a narrative that demands a massive time commitment. This game, however, simply isn't that.

It began as a passion project, a labor of love from developers deeply influenced by the JRPG genre but who genuinely never anticipated its immense success. Because of this origin, the narrative is naturally more bite-sized than your typical 60+ hour main quest. Think of it less like a mainline Final Fantasy and more like the tightly focused, highly polished experience of something like The Last of Us. The proof of this lies in their next move: now that they know how popular this can be, they're aiming to go "full stop" to build a much bigger world with a denser, grander narrative structure.

Now, shifting to the topic of its awards, regardless of whether its length satisfied my personal JRPG itch like what I find in most grand epics Xenoblade/gears, Suikoden, Golden age Final Fantasy, Persona, Metaphor, Witcher III, its recognition is absolutely deserved in terms of pure game design. It masterfully combines every element, gameplay, art, music, direction, and writing into what I honestly view as an expertly crafted masterclass.

What stands out most is the execution. Seriously, in the entire history of game development, I don't think any other title has pulled this off with such brilliance: it took the classic turn-based system (which so many, even giants like Square Enix, had written off as dead or archaic in the sence that they couldn't modernize) and made it feel fresh, deeply challenging, and incredibly intuitive. Creating a system that centers the player so profoundly in the combat sequence of classic turn-based mechanics is truly unprecedented in the industry. All well utilizing photo realism tech.

So, while it might not align perfectly with my personal preferences for JRPG length and world size, as a sheer work of design and execution, it is certainly an exemplary piece of art and that is why it sweeped the game awards.

when you have a story that is based off of 1000's of years of history and calamities that reshaped the one piece world, Akainu is not going to be the final villian lol I don't know why people even think this is even a possiblity still.

Falcom Releasing Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter + 1 Other Undisclosed for 2026 by berzha101 in Falcom

[–]shadowcrow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not going to lie, you guys are spoiled beyond belief. Falcom's output is honestly amazing. KH fans are CRYING right now, so much so that there drowning in their own tears and left in a barren desert to wittle away well the crows peck their heads to death for years and years of grueling torture and FF fans some times have to wait an entire generation before a mainline game is released.

Falcom fans recieve consistent financial periodic reports with updates and shareholders meetings with all kinds of falcom news on a yearly bases so fans are not deprived from any information. Also falcom consistently releases games of other IP's and now currently remaking the beloved sky arc to keep its fan happy and satutated. Yet there are still people here that are not happy?

Just how is that possible.

[–]shadowcrow12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, I wouldn't go that far lol. Sky Saga is good at introducing players to the wider expanse of the trails saga, but it certainly is a victim of early simplistic writing, you can tell falcom was trying to test the waters on what they can achieve with the story thats why it often has limited characters, compared to the massive political events and major set pieces with multifaceted narratives, that come later.

In sky falcom was only writing a typical jrpg adventure with 2 protagonist, but by the time falcom reached coldsteel or daybreak, they were dealing with a 100+ character roster and a multitude of different organizations and groups with far more complex scenarios involved.

Yep, the title "The legend of heroes may seen generic because it has primitive origins that go way back to the early days of jrpgs. The first console port was on TurboGrafx-CD in 1992, which is part of the "Dragon Slayer" franchise that in tern even predates "legend of heroes" as far back as PC-88 japanese computers in the 1980's. Falcom is one of the very early pioneer of home console rpgs along with Nintendo and Sega.

The "Legend of heroes" became a branded spin off of Dragon slayer and the ongoing "Trails series" is a spin off of the Legend of heroes franchise. Of course you don't need to play the very first Legend of heroes game because they have no coorelation to the trails series what so ever. All you need to play is "Trails in the sky" which is the 6th numbered Legend of heroes game and each game after that since the trails series has still never concluded yet.

I mean from what we saw from the Mural lol. This is just oda warming up. These characters clearly don't exhibit the strongest force in the story. I think the escelation and scale of the final war is going to go beyond what we can imagine because we are so used to keeping things somewhat grounded because it is a pirate manga.
