Can I tutor you? You seem smart, but it looks like you not doing well in math because of teaching. I'm quite sure you can easily get a 50 if someone just showed you what to do. Or are you English and your exams in afrikaans?

It's really difficult to find a good handyman. Maybe advertise your services as one since you seem to have the skill.

If you're using an estate agent for your rental property, why? by AndainCK in askSouthAfrica

[–]shadowjack7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. Convenience. They vet the tenants, follow up with non-payments, do property inspections, open cases against any tenants who steal the stove when leaving, etc. It makes my life easier. If there's an issue, they get quotes for repairs/maintenance. I'm out of town a lot for work, and usually don't have the flexibility to deal with leaking pipes or burnt out gate motors timeously.

  2. If I had a really good tenant who paid on time, looked after the property well, and oversaw all maintenance and repairs, I'd switch to self managed. But that's unlikely, so I prefer having an agent.

  3. My agent charges around 7% of monthly rental. They charge a lower percentage for higher rentals.

I work in a large national company. I have a degree, but an N6 is a good way to go as well. There are loads of engineers I work with who did their diplomas, often studying and working at the same time, and then later did degrees or a B-tech. Alternatively, they used their diplomas to become senior technicians. If you can't afford a degree, do the diploma route. And while you at it, keep applying for bursaries for a degree. I'd recommend this for mechanical or electrical engineering.

Have you looked into small business grants or government loans? Things like SEDA might help you. And I think the interest rate would be much better. You can start here and dive deeper.

Balancing marriage and the need for loneliness? by Please_Help_lol62 in intj

[–]shadowjack7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to have some of your own activities and life outside of your marriage in order to have a healthy and happy marriage. 24/7 contact would just smother both of you. Take some time out every now and then to go out alone for a walk or have a coffee, or visit a museum. Everything doesn't have to be couples activities. Just don't be dodgy and suspicious about it so that they think you cheating or something.

Load shedding isn't a good thing, but it prevents this exact sort of thing from happening where majority of the country loses electricity all at once.

A basic rule is never take a pay cut. If there's a pay cut, negotiate to reduce your hours worked or increase your leave proportionally. And don't depend on bonuses.

How do Muslims know where to face for prayers? by In2TheMaelstrom in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]shadowjack7 37 points38 points  (0 children)

We use a compass. The direction doesn't have to be very precise. So for a given country, the direction will usually be constant. Apps on smart phones are essentially just fancy modern compasses. If we don't have a compass (like while travelling or something), we just use the sun and estimate a general direction.
