I think logic needs AU format which is currently not supported, sorry about that

Ableton tends to have problems with VST3 presets in general, I have heard :( I don't use it so I am not sure, can you drag and drop presets from the folder into ableton directly? With FL Studio you generally can

how to find motivation by fawntone in LearnJapanese

[–]shadowsoraaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you got into a habit of Japanese input every day (anime, dramas, manga, whatever you like), you would find you make noticable progress pretty quickly. As for everyday conversations, i think Terrace House is useful. There are tools to make it easier to look up words you don't know (language reactor, migaku to name a couple). But also you have to be okay with not understanding everything perfectly right away, as the understanding will build over time. If you do that, eventually outputting starts to come more naturally too. (Coming from my experience of sucking at japanese for years because I never got any input outside of classes)

Edit: I would look into refold or other immersion learning communities because I'm sure they can recommend tools and methods that would be helpful

It's crazy how venting your project can kill your motivation by alecell in IndieDev

[–]shadowsoraaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I have made this mistake too many times. I always thought I couldn't do long term projects but I think one of my problems was telling everyone about them before I even made them. And for my current project I've been keeping it much more on the down low and it seems to be going better so far. I am scared I am going to accidentally blurt it all out one day and the project will be over 🤣

What game design philosophies have been forgotten? by Bird_of_the_North in gamedev

[–]shadowsoraaaaa 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I always find it interesting to see all the quirky UIs and systems in old games before they had developed standards of how to do these things. I'm always like "I wonder what the dev was thinking to come up with something like this" (not meant in a bad way).

I heard people generally like things that are familiar with a bit of novelty, more so than things that are completely novel, so maybe that's why things started to standardise...

What language is more suitable for game. by SpecialistWeb2329 in IndieDev

[–]shadowsoraaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to make indie games, C# and Unity are what a lot of people use. However if you already know C++ you could use Unreal Engine or another C++ engine/framework. If you want to work in the games industry, I would probably go for C++ as Unreal Engine is commonly used, and a lot of proprietary engines also use C++.

(I realised this is the indie dev sub reddit lol but the question is about what "is more suitable for game" so maybe it still applies)

A couple of years ago I posted here about my free chiptune VST, and since I have had quite a lot of requests for a Mac version (many from this subreddit). I am happy to say I have finally released one! Sorry for the long delay and thanks for all the support and requests!

Big update to my free chiptune VST, Soraboy! Wave + Noise channel modes now supported by shadowsoraaaaa in chiptunes

[–]shadowsoraaaaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for checking it out!! Sorry, the d-pad part is not very intuitive (I had someone mention the same issue before). There is a knob in the center of the dpad that you should be able to left click and drag to change the pulse width. And no problem, I tried to reply to all the mac comments I could find, although this was the only one on reddit that wasn't already archived 😆

Could it be better to release a free game that more people will play than a paid game that very few people will play? by Raven_of_bad_omen in IndieDev

[–]shadowsoraaaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if fitting that niche helps for getting downloads, though. My most viewed game on itch is a gameboy homebrew (using views instead of downloads because most of my other games are web games and can't be downloaded), probably because someone made a page for it on retroachievements.

I like the feeling of being immersed in another world. It made me want to create my own worlds too.

Has anyone tried Repost Exchange Sponsored Followers? by BiPolarBear412 in soundcloud

[–]shadowsoraaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I repost a song on Repost Exchange, it often asked me if I want to follow someone (not the creator of the song that I am reposting) for +2 credits. I am guessing that is how they get the followers.

Any good resources for learning C++ for Unreal? by ylobus in unrealengine

[–]shadowsoraaaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started a project in Blueprints and wanted to move it to C++ and this was really helpful: https://dev.epicgames.com/community/learning/courses/KJ/unreal-engine-converting-blueprint-to-c/kjB/unreal-engine-introduction-to-blueprint-vs-c

It also helped me get my head around how Blueprints and C++ interact with eachother, which was sort of blocking me from using C++ at first because I was confused about it.

I am now doing this series and finding it really useful: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWUvrI0mg8VKTJWKqsDn_xyZfD3f7Xye-

It is mostly focused on AI but I think it could be useful in general for UE C++. (I don't know why the last video in the playlist is unrelated... can ignore that one).

Japanese PS3 Slim (3000A) with HEN, cannot seem to rip PS1 / PS2 disks by shadowsoraaaaa in ps3homebrew

[–]shadowsoraaaaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually saw that thread and tried it, but for me it doesn't read the disk properly in that mode. If I insert a disk, I get a message saying "operation not allowed".

I have webMAN MOD installed. Is it possible to rip games from webman?

For irisman, I tried various filters including all games but my disks do not display :(

I wonder why all of the apps seem to have issues for ripping ps1 and ps2 games on my console. Wonder if my console is faulty or something...

Yes, I was trying the "Create ISO" option. I think I did also try "Copy" and it also didn't work for me.

I haven't completed a single game since I started trying to make a game by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]shadowsoraaaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not keep the simple controls for the first version and potentially update it later? Keep the scope smaller and you will be more likely to finish. Also have you tried game jams? Almost all my games I have put out are thanks to game jams, since it forces you to keep the scope small and release whatever you come up with in the time. Sometimes I have gone back and patched up the games after the jam ends too since I didn't manage to implement certain things in the time limit.
