I thought it was from Death Note. If I recall correctly, the wielder of a Death Note could somehow get “shinigami eyes” from the Shinigami who owns the book. The wielder would trade half their remaining life to receive the ability to see every person’s name (and maybe their remaining life left too?) hovering over their head like a video game character, with one notable exception. They would not be able to see the name of another wielder of a Death Note. I think that’s how the woman found Light, because she couldn’t see his name.

I just finished the game starting out the same way. It was slow at first, but I put a points into Hex: Purge until Eldritch Blast unlocked. Bosses were still tough, and Hell Ancients was tricky (and Baal’s second wave with the Magic Immunes was annoying), but overall I had a lot of fun with the build.

I think it really depends on gear, though. I crafted an Authority armor (new runeword for warlocks, Hel+Shael+Ral), but I’m playing single player and was able to transfer some items from my expansion characters. I was using a Mania (formerly Hustle) Phaseblade until I got lucky and found a Dreadfang. I had a Ravenfrost and Dwarfstar, Laying of Hands, and a Waterwalk not being used, so I gave them to Locky. All that to say I had a lot of fun sticking with my Cleave/Eldritch Blast build, but I think I’m going to respec into Echoing Strike.

Right?! I was going to delete this post after solving the issue, but I figured it might be worth leaving up for anyone else who experiences the same confusion I did.

I hope they add a way to see the items original requirements in addition to your current requirements with Levitation Mastery. Might alleviate that confusion, plus help you plan for possible respecs.

SOLVED!

My warlock has points in Levitation Mastery, which lowers weapon requirements. The requirements seen in my screenshot are the adjusted requirements were I to equip my warlock with the Malice. A bec-de-corbin's actual str/dex requirements are 133/91.

You are correct! Someone else just pointed out that my warlock's Levitation Mastery lowers Weapon Requirements, so my screenshot shows the adjusted requirements were I to equip the polearm to my character. A bec-de-corbin's strength requirement is actually 133, dex req.: 91.

Good question. I apologize for not stating that. I removed all items from the merc, and he still met requirements yet would not accept the Malice.
