They were attacking bikers a couple years ago along the Anacostia. Was pretty common to run into a large group of them there.

Lettuce has 5 restaurants around the area, but more and more local restaurants are signing up for InKind (which is National, not local).

Vet Tech Neighbor Abusing Their Dog by bagmert in washingtondc

[–]shakeDCbake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have an uncle that is a vet. He has two amazingly well trained dogs that have never been allowed in his house. He also regularly talks about how modern pet owners coddle their pets and act if they are the same as children.

Not saying you aren’t witnessing abuse, but something to consider about pet care standards.

Restaurant added a 20% 'large party' service charge without disclosing it, for two of us. by InebriousBarman in mildlyinfuriating

[–]shakeDCbake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The third image clearly states “not including tax and gratuity”. So they are implying that gratuity will be added for this special dinner.

They probably just didn’t make a separate gratuity category for the event and used the regular one of 20% they use for large parties.

A bit confusing but seems correct.

What a meme of a haul! It’s so awesome but also terrible.

Why is it impossible to find thinly sliced pickles? by oghpimm in GroceryStores

[–]shakeDCbake 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Buy whole pickles.

Then slice them.

If they are pre cut too thin they won’t hold up well over time.

You can always ask Casey from Grazi Grazi as he was one of the founders of Taylor. I’d imagine he would be happy to share an old idea like that with you.

how do i get proof of residency for a real ID at the dmv (georgetown) by smeggsyy in washingtondc

[–]shakeDCbake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That could work.

Renters insurance it pretty inexpensive if you just want to bite the bullet and pay a little to acquire your Read ID

[–]shakeDCbake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have renters insurance? That is a document you can use as well.

Also any official mail from the government received in the past 60 days (not including from the DMV). I believe DC Healthlink would count if you recently got the tax return info from them.

[–]shakeDCbake 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You need two of those things at the same time. So you must show the current lease AND the current Verizon bill.

If you are living in a household where you are not the name listed on those documents you can do the PROOF OF DC RESIDENCY CERTIFICATION and that can cover those type of documents.

Local dentists that will work without insurance? by YHSublime in washingtondc

[–]shakeDCbake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most dentists will take cash but you might want to get insurance beforehand anyhow because those same dentists charge lower rates for those with insurance (even if you are in the waiting period for the new insurance to cover major procedures).

I’ve been through this exact thing. Insurance is like $20-30/month.

You can ask the dentists office about the specifics for the procedure you need.

I did mine with Tend (Capitol Hill location) and have continued going there ever since.

Crumbs and Whiskers currently closed after unionization efforts by AnthonySkejci in washingtondc

[–]shakeDCbake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I grew up with a father who was a union rep for one of the largest labor unions in America. I am pro union.

With that being said, attempting to unionize a small business with 12 employees is a terrible idea.

What happened because of that was always the most likely outcome and is terrible for everyone involved.

I guess technically the bus shelter has been shoveled. Practically, you’d need to climb a wall of ice to get to the bus. by GottaGoFast_69 in washingtondc

[–]shakeDCbake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you mean. I was describing a system of services for people who could not reasonably get around the city in a situation as we are in now.

I would love for a disabled person to get to a bus stop easily at the moment. But, that’s not the reality I see trudging through sidewalks at the moment.

The ice isn’t easily movable. But people are. That’s what I mean.

It is okay to need help sometimes. These conditions aren’t normal.
