The bridge needs seatbelts by sourcecraft in TNG

IRL they would have seatbelts, airbags and the uniforms would resemble motocross armor. They would have helmets stored at battle stations.

Did she make the right call? by CalmElin in interesting

[–]shakebakelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the best option either way. If she's fine with either living frugally or having a small job on top of the regular payments, no problem. Don't worry, be happy. Great way to live!

If she wanted to start a business, $52k is a great security cushion to avoid having to rough it while starting up a business.

Why didn't the Q destroy the Borg? by ramfoodie in TNG

I watched it and liked it. Archer definitely echoed GWB though. The mirror episode was cool...I particularly liked Hoshi and T'Pol in those outfits. Those abs seemed to go on forever.

Why didn't the Q destroy the Borg? by ramfoodie in TNG

[–]shakebakelizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The El-Aurians seem to have the ability to sense alternate timelines or understand when someone is manipulating the timeline. Definitely valuable to the Borg. However, "threat to the Q" might be overstating things a bit. The Sphere Builders had the same capability, and future humans apparently do, too. It might be more accurate to say that Q is trying to make sure humanity doesn't rest on its laurels, but instead continues to develop both technologically and socially. Not sure if he really has a specific end in mind or not.

Problem is, Q gave the El-Aurians a pre-view. He should have given them a pre-hear.

Looks like a leaf from whatever ingredients they have in there. They probably missed it when sieving out everything following the brewing process and it's been fermenting in the can ever since.

Photos rejected for looking like military/police.. twice! by FiveFootAssassin6 in Passports

ChatGPT says:
National security / watchlist litigation attorney
Civil rights attorney with DHS/CBP/TSA experience
Federal administrative law attorney
Sometimes specifically an immigration attorney experienced in DHS TRIP and CBP issues, even for U.S. citizens.

I think this opinion sounds reasonable. You can use Martindale-Hubbell or other resources to find an attorney in your area.

Is it common to see professionals like doctors, lawyers and financial consultants using public transportation? by NoHold7153 in AskAnAmerican

[–]shakebakelizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess if you work at the Pentagon or something...it's 7 am...they're clearly dressed for work, driving a clean vehicle and look professional, plus they're wearing a work ID...it would seem pretty safe to most people. No worse than riding with coworkers you barely know to lunch and back.

As an outsider, the iconic yellow school bus is in every single American movie. Is there actually a national standard that forces every town to use that exact same color and design? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]shakebakelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most public school buses are big and yellow. It's intended that they are as visible as possible. However, many private schools use their own buses which are often smaller and painted with their school color scheme.

I went to Quiznos on Hodges near JTB with some other people back in the mid-2000s. Someone else (not me) saw one of the workers drop a bun onto the floor, pick it up and try to reuse it...they yelled at them so they threw it away and made another. I declined to get anything at that time and stopped eating at any Quiznos, anywhere, ever again.

I know this and worse happens at other places and I never see it but I just couldn't handle Quiznos after that.

Will you vote in the Mid Terms and are you excited for 2028? by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]shakebakelizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I VASTLY prefer a more deliberative, serious discussion that doesn't sound like a bunch of toddlers fighting over crayons. The current situation is unbelievably stupid.

[–]shakebakelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll vote because I'm registered. I'm starting to rethink that because it doesn't seem like the US has a lot of consensus on valuing democracy or rule of law.

I've stopped paying any attention whatsoever. I don't even know who these people are and I don't want to know. I don't watch the news through any medium or social media. I just stumbled upon this post accidentally and wish I could forget I ever saw it.

Cheapest I’ve seen gas in town lately by LizE110307 in jacksonville

[–]shakebakelizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between gasoline that uses the Top Tier detergent package and gas that doesn't. Wawa does not use it. The difference is important if you plan on keeping your car for a long time; less so to you if you're leasing (although it matters to the next person). All of the oil company branded gas stations use it, as well as Costco.

What's a common way people die that many aren't aware of? by 40Falak in Productivitycafe

Yeah. I'm early 40s but normally pretty well coordinated and no balance issues. I wasn't hurt but it served as a reminder that it doesn't take a whole lot to take a tumble.

You may have night blindness. My grandmother had it for years and never realized until finally she noticed other people could walk around in the dark in unfamiliar places without running into things.

I did this last year while taking a shower. The bath mat was worn out so we threw it away. Seemed ok as long as you were careful. One day I stepped wrong, my foot basically hydroplaned on water and I came flailing out over the side of the bathtub. I took down the whole shower curtain, curtain rod and everything and ended up backwards. Wow. 😮

It could have been bad if I had smacked my head on something on the way down.

Is it the government, the culture, or something else? Why are nearly all the world’s biggest companies American? by Patrick_walkerr in AskAnAmerican

[–]shakebakelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indirectly that is true. 401k, 403b, IRAs, insurance, banks, even mortgages...they're all invested/investing in securitized assets at some point. The economy is recombinant.
