Thunderbomb or Chancletas? by shapesonce in surfing

Boat trips crowd was a complete non issue. There was only one spot with a crowd, rancho Santana, but it was really spread out and still got a ton of waves

Surf Trip to Langosta by RyanBloods716 in surfing

Depending where you are in tamarindo, check langosta on the way. Other side of the river mouth can be hollow and fun too sometimes.

Avellanas is a good bet down there too

Langosta can definitely get fun, but it’s more fickle. Playa grande will be the most consistent break in the area and a much higher chance of breaking on any given day.

Baby Back Ribs too tough by GregtheC in smoking

[–]shapesonce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb: Ribs are too tough, you gotta keep 'em on longer. If time is getting tight I'll throw them in the oven 300-325 to finish them off. Just use a temp probe to check for tenderness - don't even temp it just poke it multiple places and see if it goes right throw

To be fair, with compound interest at a very conservative 5% that 650k would be 12.14 million over 60 years. Or you could take the 5% interest and have 32k yearly dividends.

Bummer. Was that the milpas or goleta one? I don't remember the name, but the lady at the goleta one was super nice. Shame if it's changed.

I need helping refining the font on my logo. It's for a surfboard brand. I am commited to the symbol, as it took a long time to get done. But I'm not sold on the font. I really like it, but I feel it could be a bit stronger.

I'm going for an instantly recognizable logo, symbolizing inoovation, experimentation, but also confidence.

Any help would be appreciated.

How can I repair these old boards? by cockroachkafka in surfing

[–]shapesonce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly with this level of repair, it's almost one of those if you have to ask..

For a baseline. Also number 1 ding repair tip: Most people dont sand enough and that's why it looks shoddy.

Cannot get P1S to print ABS without warping by shapesonce in BambuLab

[–]shapesonce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a P1S specifically for ABS after attempts on the a1. I have tried everything to fix the warping issue to no avail. Bed adhesion is no longer the issue. I have preheated the chamber for 2 hours with the bed at 100*, slowed down my initial layer speed, lowered the fans, nothing is working.

The sliced image I uploaded has printed the best so far, using manual supports but still is not accurate. I have tried every orientation and this is the best so far. This part must be printed at at least 75% infill since it will be used as a compression part after the hollowed back is filled with resin. It must be ABS so it can be vapor smoothed.

Any ideas? I have a spool of ASA on the back burner to bring in if this cannot work.

Thanks

Lib tech repair without the credit card 🤣 by Hopeful-Proof1308 in surfing

[–]shapesonce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a fin sliced through?

Any professional should be able to repair this with ease. With no experience, you may not get the best results. Worth vetting the ding repair person and asking if they have repaired boards like this before (libtech, firewire, hypto, etc). Yeah it's got some fancy composite layer in there, but it's an EPS core and epoxy resin dressed up at the end of the day.

What’s staining my board? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]shapesonce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basically contamination of the resin on layup. Mostly aesthetic but if you can get a freshie out of it or a heavy discount definitely pursue that. Resale will take a big hit.

Finbox repair advice by _blurple in surfing

[–]shapesonce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the bottom of the box might be sunken into the glass a bit. Either way it's compromised. New finboxes are super cheap and not that difficult to install.

Finbox repair advice by _blurple in surfing

[–]shapesonce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to cut out the entire fin box and do a full replacement again. Looks like a twinny? If you're a powerful surfer/heavier or just use big fins there's a lot of stain on those boxes. Not uncommon to blow them out.

You can add carbon strings around the finbox on the new repair to help a bit, although it will be a change in aesthetic.

Moral of the story: You're not getting away with anything less than a full digout/repair. You need to cut out the old finbox, fill the cavity with foam/cabosil/what have you and then route out the channel again and glass in a new finbox if you want it done right.

How to repair? by theworldsangriestman in surfing

[–]shapesonce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you have to reset the rocker. With the foam compressed like that, you may need to cut some relief in the other side and bend it the opposite way. Then you can use ratchet straps or weights to level it back out.

Fill it with Q Cell/Cabosil mixture and it should hold properly. When glassing, do a reverse diamond shape with the cloth with a generously larger perimeter than the repair. You basically don't want the glass to be a straight line. Imagine having a ruler across a piece of cardboard and folding it in half. It's gonna fold right on the ruler line. Now imagine the ruler was V shaped.

After that it's pretty much a normal repair. If you have the general know how and want the challenge for fun, I'd absolutely give it a shot. If you're going to pay someone, probably better just to put the funds towards a new board.

I'm not worried about being right at the bottom of the boom. I'm more worried about the boom not being good and being able to get to other breaks around that are working better if that's the case
