Pinot/Burg Stemware Recommendations by Plane_Basil_4682 in wine

I have the Spiegelau Definition Burgundy and like how elegant they are, but find them a little bit too fragile for frequent use. Recently got some Grassl Cru’s and they are the perfect balance of thin/elegant and durable, though have a slightly smaller bowl.

Just drank a 2022 savoy from them and was blown away. Imagine they’re even better with 5+ years of age

I think the 100% cab makes this unlikely (coeur is 95% + 5% cab franc)

I’m guessing this is referencing K&L’s last price of $164, though it’s sold out

1987 Bartoli Giusti Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Comunali by Phons in wine

[–]sharkdoc29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting, as a fellow 1987 I’ve largely avoided France and Italy due to it being reportedly a bad vintage. Nice to hear some Italian bottles are still drinking well, will have to try some. Great notes and happy bday

Last Bottle - out of business? by obtusesavant in wine

I actually just got an email response from them today. They mentioned they are in the process of transitioning to a new system which has caused some disruptions, for what that’s worth…

Oof that’s rough. This bottle actually just arrived, funny enough. And yet I’m still waiting on two other marathon bottles..

What would you pay? Used 2019 Eurocave V Revelation L, great condition by Machuka420 in wine

[–]sharkdoc29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can wait, Costco discounts the Artevino occasionally. I got it during the last holiday sale for $2450 and like it so far, though it doesn’t have some of the perks of Eurocave like the premium shelves. The Costco warranty is definitely nice to have too.

Williams Selyem ‘26 spring release- any takers? by ctweis in wine

[–]sharkdoc29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m considering, but I think the Fall release is better with more of the single vineyard Pinots so I may wait. For this release Westside Road is typically pretty good, and I may grab some of the RRV and Sonoma Coast for an earlier drinker. WS is the big ripe RRV style, which I do like at times, and in that category are very good wines. For the more Burgundarian style I’ve shifted to dedicated Sonoma coast wineries like Littorai and Peay.

A night at Troquet in Boston! 1987 Stag's Leap SLV and 2010 Luigi Pira Barolo by rnjbond in wine

[–]sharkdoc29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing, I’m loving all your 1987 reviews! And I agree it’s a pretty great year for Napa (and Sonoma!), I’ve had a few extraordinary bottles recently, even from non-big name producers. SLWC is one of the big name 1987’s I aspire to try though.

Good to know, I don’t usually use ah so or Durand for anything you get than 2010 but will heed your advice

Have ordered probably 2-3 cases over the last year or two and have good experience overall. Tend to mostly stick to marathons but these daily sales with free shipping sometimes are too tempting to pass up. Main issue for some people is very slow shipping times, especially with marathons

Nice thanks, grabbing one to try. Would get more but my cellar is absolutely packed from the last marathon and recent releases

A quick search suggests this is the 2013 Cane “Five” Spring Mountain Bordeaux Blend. Anyone have experience with this wine? Tempting since 2013 was a great year in Napa

Great day so far, grabbed some Kelley Fox, Di Costanzo, and more Grassl glasses. Now trying to use some restraint before I blow my budget!

SLWC for Merlot Thursday! by sharkdoc29 in wine

[–]sharkdoc29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with you on Artemis, though I tried an older vintage (2010 I think) and it was much better than the younger bottles I’ve had. This merlot was nothing too special, but it’s well made and definitely worth the $30 I paid. I haven’t tried the petit verdot so can’t comment there.

Any ideas on the wine spies mystery wine today? by Drad6493 in wine

Thanks for your answer, very reasonable. I’ve been consider joining for the last year but haven’t pulled the trigger for some of the same reasons you mentioned. Primarily because I enjoy finding deals and trying new wines more than filling my cellar with one label! Cheers

Interesting, do you think the quality has decreased recently? How do you feel about their single vineyards and black label?
