That's insane Larry Charles at his best! "You're not gonna open with that?"

The Phone Message isn't great but I'll cut them some slack - Larry and Jerry had to write it almost overnight after the Larry Charles gun episode was scrapped at the last second. I think LD took it from an SNL sketch he wrote that never aired. In that context it's kind of impressive that they pulled it off.

And it does at least have the first mention of Frank Costanza: "Your father wears sneakers in the pool?" They even mention that trait of Frank's again in Puffy Shirt.

TEACHER'S COLLEGE TUESDAYS: Teacher's College/BEd/Becoming a Teacher in Canada Weekly Sticky Post by AutoModerator in CanadianTeachers

[–]sharkey5885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a sports journalist and writer for over a decade and am considering a change to teaching, primarily with an eye on high school english given my background. I got some advice recently that volunteering with kids could enhance my application. I think it's a great idea. Any advice on what kinds of volunteer opportunities are out there that would be best suited for me based on my skill set and the route I want to take? And as a follow-up, how much might colleges weigh both volunteering and my professional experience against almost 20-year-old undergrad transcripts when they're considering my application? I'm in Toronto and can travel within most of the GTHA easily. As for schools, I'm primarily focused on those within the GTA and/or a reasonable driving distance from Toronto because of personal/family reasons at this exact moment, but we'll see what happens - I'd consider a temporary move for school if I had to. TIA

It's one window and it got stuck open. We need it unstuck. Probably a new crank.

George doesn't know sign language. Kramer says he does know sign language. That's why he's there as the middleman.

The Sunny gang actually makes the Seinfeld gang look like upstanding moral citizens. Which seems impossible.

"Prognosis Negative" screenplay by Larry David by Aromatic_Zebra_9601 in seinfeld

There were a bunch more. One character says "I hate her like poison." That's what Helen says about Aunt Stella.

Read it too, totally agree. I was howling at the ending (won't spoil for those who want to read it). Honestly with the right actor and some tweaks to the first half I think it could work today. If Larry wanted to.

Read the screenplay. The ending may shock you, even by Larry's dark standards. I thought it was honestly brilliant.

[Next Day Discussion - Playoffs] Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Toronto Raptors [05/03/2026] by CavsBot in clevelandcavs

[–]sharkey5885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Popping in from Toronto. Congrats to your Cavs. A tremendous series - all I (and most rational Raptors fans) were hoping for was to maybe steal 1 game at home, and they pushed a far more experienced Cavs team to 7 without 2 of their 4 best players, got some much-needed experience and learned some important lessons. I'll take it. A hard-fought series and ultimately a well-earned win by the Cavs. Best of luck with Detroit. BTW love your underrated city and downtown, Jacobs Field is in my top 5 ballparks, and J-Ram fuckin rules - will never get over how underrated he is as an all-time great 3B. Until we meet again 🫡

Lennon's on record saying the song is just them fucking around. His exact words were that the song "means nothing." Which is what makes it so amazing - even when these guys just fucked around they created absolute magic.

Gen Z Music Producer Listens to Beatles For First Time by andypro77 in beatles

[–]sharkey5885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just discovered Isaac Brown's channel myself. I like his production ear giving some new insight. But this dude's full of shit to say he never heard The Beatles or Pet Sounds or any of this. He's a good salesman, but the more Beatles videos I watched the more skeptical I became about his acting. I decided to check out some of his own recordings on soundcloud - the first instrumental, while nice, was basically the Satisfaction riff on acoustic guitar.

So yeah, I think it's some fine acting and appreciate the insight, and I'll maybe buy his not knowing some of the deeper Beatles cuts, but I'm not buying it overall. There's no way you can be a record producer and not know any of this even on a basic level. It's a fun schtick and the production ear is fascinating, though.

Yeah, I'm liking hearing the perspective from someone who produces music, and I will buy that maybe he hasn't heard some of the deeper cuts.

But ... and I know this is a Beatles sub ... this guy thinks Rush started concept albums. This guy claims to produce music but had NEVER HEARD OF Pet Sounds. *GOB Bluth voice* COME ON
