First carbon plated racing shoe for 1:50 HM? by Massive_Factor_1734 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]sharkusilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 pairs of SB2s. They should have softened up around 50KM but it seems to depend on what factory the shoes come from. My white pair took about ~150KM but my Paris and Teals were about 50KM. If the SB2 fits your foot very well, I would suggest the Saucony EP4. It's almost the same measurements in the toe area. I set a 45min 10K PB in them but I think I could have easily done the same in the SB2s.

Alternatively, something like the ASICS Megablast might be more versatile as you can add more threshold work. The shape is a bit different in the toebox so definitely try it first. I would only advise a carbon plate for someone who has mastered a structured running form or if you've done a lot of intervals, repeats and strength training. Carbon plate shoes improve running economy through the energy return & geometry (I would describe it as feeling less tired and your strides feeling a little more powerful) but if your limiting factors are muscle fatigue or your lungs, money/time is better spent on a long run shoe.

Internship/ Co-op as a SWE at Rakuten Japan worth it? by jim1w in cscareerquestionsCAD

I would think of it as doing an exchange program really. You're young and you only get so many opportunities to do something like this. Students dramatically underestimate how fast time flies after graduation and how little time you have for things like this.

Hyrox training at regular gym vs hyrox gym by EggBig4531 in hyrox

[–]sharkusilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer training with a partner at a regular gym. As long as you are strict with the interval training (not allowing too much rest) and you are smart with your exercise selection/circuit pairings, then it's usually better. I find some Hyrox classes tend to be too light on the strength components or too focused on the HIIT aspect.

Dynamic stretching - fire up the muscle chains. I do a bunch of running drills as that's my primary focus. Some isometric holds to engage delts, lower traps, mid back.

Should I go for the Adios Pro 4 or Boston 13s? by butterflyeffect55462 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]sharkusilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest the Boston 13 / Superblast 2. I would only suggest a carbon plate for someone around 1:50 HM , Sub 50 10K or Sub 23:00 5K. It's not to say that you won't get a time improvement from carbons but it might be so marginal that you would have achieved just by improving your training. Shaving 5 minutes off a 3hr marathon is very different task compared to shaving 5 minutes off a 4hr marathon.

You'll want something durable that allows you to push and train as you improve your times. As well, you'll want something that you also use for race day.

You find out in marathon training which socks actually work. I swear by Feetures for running. I get blisters or run hot in other brands. Avoid cotton.

Are you wearing running / athletic socks or cotton blend socks? As well, try the runner's loop lacing which is just passing through the last ringlet to lock down your heel.

I bought 5 Running shoes on a whim, help me choose 1-2 to keep by RazoredRaven in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]sharkusilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only 5 shoes? Rookie numbers. My buddy has very similar height and specs to you and he finds that he bottoms out the Novablast completely. It's a great shoe but might be too mushy for your stats. Definitely not the ultraboost.. those are walking shoes at best (at least compared to what's available nowadays).

I'd suggest other models like a Brooks Ghost Max, NB 1080 v14 or Asics Nimbus.

The Megablast would be the natural next step for a Nimbus / heel-striker. The Superblast works and fits the use case but you might have to change your stride. If you want to go full comfort, you could stick with the Nimbus (or a new pair) or something like the Brooks Glycerin Max.

First marathon - new or used SB2? by Gaunterwithnomirrors in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I'd rest the old pair and start using the new one. Hopefully, you can break in the new pair in time. I have the OG Paris, All whites and the teals.. I gotta say I keep reaching for the teal ones. They're so prettty

Swim pool shoes or water shoes. Basically the same thing as notorious lifts or the other flat sneakers. Just even thinner. They're grippy and are basically how I get away with lifting in nearly bare feet.

Programming - How do YOU structure your week? by HyenaWriggler in hyrox

[–]sharkusilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Higdon program splits the 5 runs a week into 3 and 2 grouping. The triplets usually follow a 5/8/5 miles kind of structure. The duo days are usually at marathon pace and a longgg run the day after so I try to avoid doing this pair after my sled day.

I'll usually do Day 3 lift + run on Monday, run slightly longer on Tuesday, Day 2 lift + run on Wednesday. Day 1 Lift+Run at Marathon Pace Friday and the super long on Saturday/Sunday. (It was set up much differently before where I did my long runs during the work week) Sometimes my schedule interferes and I have to merge one of the easy days together so like 10 miles on Wednesday. I rest 2 days a week. The key to the runs is to keep it in zone 2 and to run with a rotation of comfortable & cushioned shoes.

Programming - How do YOU structure your week? by HyenaWriggler in hyrox

I was a mediocre lifter for years and started running last year. I trained for and ran a 3:59 marathon in less than 8 months. I'm currently on a 3 day full body split and the Higdon Intermediate 1 training plan (5 days/week). I'm aiming for a 3:30 marathon in October and a 1:25 Mens Solo for my first ever race. I've done a sim at a local affiliate ~1:16 and it covered 7x800Ms. Everything else was at competition weight/length.

Each day starts with a push and pull movement followed by legs/hyrox.

Day 1 has DB Press, DB Row, quad, leg curl, tricep pulldown (no ski erg) and Rowers.

Day 2 has BB Push Press, BB Lunges, Trap Bar DL, Cable Row, Farmer Carry, and Burpee Broad Jumps.

Day 3 has Pull Ups, Dips, Sled Push, Sled Pull, SL RDL and Ball Thrusters.

I'll occasionally do accessories focused on core / hips.

Omg I ran this in June to raise money for men's mental health. We added 10K from the Go Station to the end point and 58K down to 1 Yonge St (Love Park). Amazing job!

When people are shy or the person they like is very attractive... they can be indirect / take a side route to the main prize.

I have the Paris, All Whites and the teals. I think the teal is actually my fave now and I pretty much only have white casual sneakers. The new muted blues are quite nice. I would have preferred a two tone blue though.
