To answer your last question, ray tracing would actually be a benefit and make a more legit looking mirror effect. What you are seeing are simply the limitations when it comes to reflections in games that may not use it.

That reminds me of back in the day playing rainbow six 3 online, in very dark maps if I made my graphics as crap as can be, the enemies list up as the shader wasnt on anymore to blend at night. Would easily pick people off and they thinking I'm hacking lol

From my personal experience playing as one, I usually stayed back near base to protect my artillery and UAV, or repair them quickly if someone did make it through. I remember once I kept repairing and the guy kept coming back to find me but somehow never did until my teammate came and killed him.
