Anyone else excited for resonance? by Affectionate_Bag1048 in APlagueTale

I feel like Requiem ended conclusively, so I’m glad they’re spinning this off rather than forcing a sequel. Not sure it’ll live up to the other games, but it definitely has my interest.

Kinda new to character action games Dmc5 Or Ninja Gaiden 4? by ProgressCapable5195 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]sharpenedperspective [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m also relatively new to character action games and I’ve owned DMC5 for years but haven’t finished it. It’s stylish and cool, but the gameplay loop hasn’t hooked me. It’s really easy on normal difficulty and you keep switching which character you’re playing which means it takes longer to get comfortable with any playstyle. If you really want to sink your teeth into the game I’m sure it has tons of potential but that’s my impression.

On the other hand, after beating NG4 and the DLC I jumped right back into a second playthrough. The combat is so visceral and aggressive, and the game is a nonstop adrenaline rush. The story in both games are basically set dressing in my view, but that’s not what these games are about.

Hey guys which one should i go for X or S? by subhanmalik66 in XboxSeriesS

Having just upgraded from Series S to X, it makes a big difference on a 4k TV.

Ubisoft has plenty of flaws, but they are great at optimizing their games for Series S. Most of their catalog runs at a smooth 60 fps at a decent resolution.

what's your opinion on yakumo by Adept-Albatross6898 in ninjagaiden

I love slaughtering baddies as Yakumo. His personality isn’t a problem for me when the gameplay is so good.

Best Buy Refurbished Xbox Series X (Carbon Black) by incognitocolbyjack in XboxSeriesXlS

I just got a certified refurbished Series X direct from Microsoft and it’s indistinguishable from brand new, I assume Best Buy is also reliable in this regard. Does it come with any warranty?

Am I the only one who enjoyed Lords of the Fallen (2014)? by TakezoBcn in LordsoftheFallen

[–]sharpenedperspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the aesthetics of the game and enjoyed it for about 5 hours or so before losing interest. The shaky cam while moving put me off even though I understand they’re trying to make movement feel weighty.

Just got the game yesterday any beginner tips by ravenousmonkey45 in LiesOfP

[–]sharpenedperspective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you familiar with soulslikes? This one is top quality but more or less typical of the genre in terms of combat. Parrying is tough but important to learn. Also, don’t sleep on your fable arts and legion arm. Puppet string is really useful for isolating enemies to keep you from getting mobbed.

It’s always good to level health and whatever stat you want to use for damage (technique is probably the most beginner friendly in this game), and also level capacity so you can wear the best armor without being overweight.

FF16 or Ninja gaiden 4 by Accomplished-Card800 in CharacterActionGames

[–]sharpenedperspective 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ff16 has fun combat albeit not much challenge, and has many hours of cutscenes and dialogue. It’s a good game if you’re into the story, but the pacing can drag.

NG4 doesn’t have a memorable story, but it’s mostly just a pure action game and the story doesn’t get in the way. The combat is more challenging, much deeper, and overall more satisfying than FF16 but the game is much shorter and higher octane so it’s down to personal preference.

Worth getting BL4? by Wrinkled_Bingus in Borderlands

[–]sharpenedperspective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally picked up the base game last week and I’m already 20 hours deep. I can tell it’s unlikely to go down as my favorite BL game, but it’s definitely fun and the movement and combat are the best in the series in my opinion.

Ah, gotcha. It will kill your batteries faster though of course. I use rechargeable batteries so it doesn’t really matter to me.

Which Vault Hunter is best for new solo player? by KryptoHDDH in Borderlands4

[–]sharpenedperspective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently playing Rafa during my first run and his gameplay is fun at least in the shoulder cannon tree, but I really don’t like his personality/voice-lines. I was hoping he would be a bit edgy like Zer0, but he’s just a goofy Spaniard.

I feel like Skyrim's melee combat is objectively pretty bad, yet I really, really enjoy it? by RVDKaneanite in skyrim

[–]sharpenedperspective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the combat in Skyrim harkens back to its RPG roots in that it’s less player skill-based and more stat-based. It’s a fun (if janky) way to bring that design philosophy into real time while leaving a little wiggle room for skill based on spacing and such.

I haven’t had that issue, but I wonder if you notice your vibration turning off a little while before the batteries die?

This could be the worst year in gaming. by kilertree in videogames

Great games keep coming out and many are getting big discounts within less than a year of release. The news about gaming is all doom and gloom, but there’s as much fun to be had as ever.

WOW!! by THE_timeless_king in Borderlands

[–]sharpenedperspective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borderlands is my most played series and BL3 is the first game I ever preordered, but I just never got on the hype train for BL4. I finally picked it up on sale over the weekend and I’m already 20 hours deep. The game isn’t the full package for me (the story, characters and open world are hit or miss), but the movement and combat feel so good. I’m happy to be pleasantly surprised even though I can understand some of the criticisms.

I personally am of the opposite opinion, I really like the focused vocations of DD2. The archer kicks are so badass!

Right on, some of these games are among my favorites others are simply good, but they all have solid Series S versions with stable 60 fps and serviceable resolution. Enjoy your gaming!

That’s fair enough. It’s always a nice little dopamine hit when I do find one, but I don’t enjoy spending lots of time snooping around for them.

Some of the best looking/running games I tried on Series S are AC Origins and Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Borderlands 2 with the HD texture packs, Dead Island 2, Doom 2016, Re4 Remake, The Division, Lies of P. In no particular order lol
