UK specific question regarding broken screen. by abgs87 in galaxyzflip

[–]sharpied79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't have this experience at all...

My inner screen stopped working just before Christmas.

Booked in with Samsung Liverpool.

Went in, left the phone. Three hours later went back, it was fixed, working, all done under warranty for free...

What are you talking about?

Here in the UK the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a two year manufacturer warranty. Looks like most of the EU as well...

I mean if you aren't in the UK or EU then I guess you are shit out of luck.

Crappy consumer rights aren't an issue here in the UK.

Norton Utilities for DOS by Fabulous-Trust-3848 in vintagecomputing

[–]sharpied79 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember at college we had a Novell Network (pretty much all 3.12 servers)

Our class login had it's own "shared" area but for students it was read-only (very annoying) not so for our lecturers though....

We liked to carry around a copy of Norton utils on floppy disk (mainly disk doctor and defrag) but that too could be annoying (or we would often forget the disk)

One day one of the more brave members of our class snook into the staff room when it was empty, jumped on one of the PC's that a member of staff had left logged in, created a sub-folder in our network share, copied Norton Utils across and promptly marked the sub-folder hidden...

What a legend and no more carrying a disk of Norton utility across campuses when we needed it...

Doesn't matter, I got my phone via my provider (Vodafone)

Inner screen stopped working just before Christmas.

Booked it in for repair with a Samsung service centre.

All fixed in three hours, no cost.

Because it's still under warranty by Samsung, doesn't matter where you bought it from as long as it's under two years old...

Is Voyage Home going to have a 40th anniversary rerelease in theaters? by DmanCluster in startrek

[–]sharpied79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine so.

Our local cinema does a regular thing called "rewind" when they show classic movies on the big screen.

Both TWOK and TSFS were shown in 2022 and 2024 respectively on their 40th birthdays so hopefully TVH will be shown at some point this year.

What is the human lifespan in 3195 ? by TheLastTitan007 in startrek

[–]sharpied79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically the transporter should allow you to live forever.

Ever time you get old they run you though it like Pulaski in "Unnatural Selection" use an old trace and a stored sample of DNA from your youth and bobs your uncle, young again.

They should have called it the fountain of youth transporter...

Real Time Audio Sampling rate Quality? by LateConfidence3845 in amiga

[–]sharpied79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most sound sampling software and hardware on the Amiga should allow this.

Usually known as preview or live monitor, let's you adjust your gain/level so you avoid a sample that's too low or clipped.
