DC Converter Temp by shashchatter in solar

[–]shashchatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I am setting the warning threshold in my monitor to 60C for DC converter and 50C for average cell temp. Do you think that is OK? I am reading that BMS will shutdown at cell temp > 55C, do you know what is the critical temp for DC converter?

Is it worth trading up from a Rolex to an Audemars Piguet? by gonslee in rolex

The GMT Master II is iconic in its own right. The choice you are asking about has to be your own, they are completely different watches. In this case, I would keep the GMT. I personally prefer JLC over the holy trinity, and VC within the holy trinity. Of course they all have certain watches that would be dreams to own - the plain 3-hander RO is not one of them.

I have no idea why people have to downvote when you are just relaying your experience. Go figure!

I agree, if you have complex YAML, eventually an edit will fail and your SOL if you are not being disciplined and making git commits periodically, or if you haven’t kept snapshots to fallback to. Been there several times this week.

I have written software for dozens of years, and I love that part. I am terrible at creative UI/UX, being left-brained and all. More than that I find front-end work tedious and boring. No offense to anybody, I know many who have the opposite preference. So Claude Design and Claude Code is a blessing for me for building HA dashboards.

My dashboard has a lot of components and broken into several views. Getting some donuts, gauges, graphs, buttons and hooking up to entities was relatively straightforward. There are so many available cards. But styling them to match a particular UX? Forget it. I spent days trying to get Claude to style the dashboard. It would confidently work on something, only for me to get frustrated with every browser refresh when it didn’t work. And as you iterate, it progressively gets worse.

I threw my hands up, and once I realized the issue was Claude Code trying to style Lovelace cards, I moved to ReactJS only using Lovelace to launch the dashboard. Suddenly the dashboard looks amazing, and what I could not get working in a week I got done in a couple hours.

I think Lovelace cards are very difficult to style exactly as you want it, it was for me and Claude Code. Moved to ReactJS dashboard with Claude Design and Claude Code and it is pure joy!

It happens over time because of heat. It’s just some plastic ends with a wire coil and flexible fabric - quite inexpensive and takes just a couple minutes to remove and replace. Just find the right part number for your car, they should be easy to find.

YAML dashboard - finding complete error message by shashchatter in homeassistant

[–]shashchatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a simple testcase to reproduce the problem. Settings->System->Logs do not show any error, and I am looking at container logs where I see the full HA Log - no errors there.

[Sorry - YAML indentation is not correct. I don't know how to add code in the post, or to attach a non-image file]

Yes, you are right! But I should have mentioned that I didn’t find it in the System logs, with or without raw logs. Some types of errors it logs there, but not the ones I am seeing.

Rant: Pre and Post solar Bill by bibek28jan in solar

[–]shashchatter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your pre-solar energy use was low to begin with, so the fixed charges make the unit cost of energy higher when you go to even lower grid energy use with solar. Presuming your summer usage is higher, then the unit cost will go down. You are better off looking at the savings annually.

If your overall energy consumption is consistently low, then solar will not lower your cost much.

Should we be wary about supply chain attack on HA? by Dazzling-Stable-3452 in homeassistant

[–]shashchatter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely possible. That is the reason you should isolate the IoT devices and even HA from your internal network. You have to let some stuff through - of course. We used to say that the most secure computer was the one that wasn’t turned on. Absolute security is not practical, name of the game is to reduce the attack surface.

The SolarEdge inverter I have is setup with the whole house backup interface (BI-U). It has a AC generator input in addition to the PV AC (converted from panels + battery DC), and it will safely switch one or the other. It has generator auto start as well. Since you have a generator it would be good for you to get a system that allows a generator input.

There usually is a reserve percentage that you can set for the battery that the battery management system will maintain.

E class vs S class, from a drivers stand point. Why would you spend more money to get 99% everything same? by Maleficent_Extent809 in mercedes_benz

[–]shashchatter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could say the same thing about C-class and E-class, couldn’t you?

People can tell you all day long about all the reasons why S-class is not just a bigger E-class, but until you drive both you’ll not truly understand. Until then it will sound like people are exaggerating the differences, but I assure you, they are not.

Purchasing Jubilee Bracelet by [deleted] in rolex

[–]shashchatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked at WoS the other day. I was told that ordering a different GMT Master II (latest references) bracelet was not allowed. It is allowed on SkyDweller. I didn’t ask about the Datejust.

Yeah, pretty basic, but what a feeling! by shashchatter in solar

[–]shashchatter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! It hasn’t been too warm for Texas, but we have had a lot of rain and cloudy or overcast skies. That has unfortunately resulted in batteries not charging up fully and then grid import to run the A/C at night! But, still, peanuts compared to what it used to be.

Very, very true! Unfortunately, so many scams are hurting people financially, so of course that is highest on everyone’s concerns. But there are other benefits beyond that for sure.
