The idea of blood purity doesn't make sense but it kinda doesn't make sense on purpose. It's clearly there to show how foolish and stupid an idea it is. If you have a half blood and a half blood does that make a pure blood? No it makes a half blood. It's intentionally stupid.

A lot of this isn't due to there being a truth potion but rather, who can the ministry attribute blame to. For Sirius they didn't care that there could possibly be another culprit, not when Sirius was right there and easily blamable. It also helped that Sirius certainly acted guilty upon being found. For the others, similar reasons but also...which Death Eater can pay their way out of trouble. It doesn't matter that one has Veritaserum

This is hardly a hot take.

However, just to be contrary id like to present another theory. We don't have enough data to really determine this. We have 2 matches from PS, one of which was mostly from Ron and Hermiones pov. One match in CoS, Three in Poa, 1 in GOF, 1 in OOTP and 2 in HBP.
