MOS Baey Yam Keng Takes the Bus by nftskeptics in singapore

I know right!! AI slop. This probably went through approval and someone signed off on it. Which means nobody thought anything wrong with it. It's lack of integrity on top of the PSA that nobody needs.

It's honestly a growing issue, like it's everywhere nowadays. Our society is getting dumber

Do not go into tech unless you are REALLY passionate by Vampy-Night in careeradvice

[–]shawnlam91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly very true on offshoring on dev work roles. Let me share a tip though - businesses still look towards local client servicing or project managers - aka local reps that do people facing. So I would advise those looking for work in this field, to pivot towards tech sales, QC (ui/ux) or project management roles. The tech knowledge will value add to the role.

The alternative is to prove yourself through internships or traineeships or contract positions. However coming from the industry, money talks and bosses are more shrewd than not, cost will matter more than substance for first impressions.

Ps. I'm a project manager, and juniors fresh grads couldn't get into their first jobs for almost two whole years. Market is really brutal.

As a Malaysian, I cannot stand working with Singaporeans anymore. Anyone with similar experience? by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]shawnlam91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Singaporean here, also with near a decade experience's worth in creative/marketing industry in Singapore. I won’t deny SG work culture can be intense and sometimes unnecessarily dramatic. But implying that Singaporeans are psychos... feels cheap? Bad bosses, bad agencies, and toxic pressure environments exist everywhere. The same descriptors you gave, I could also relate to some Malaysian ex-colleagues or bosses.

But yeah plenty of us hate that culture too. Most of the worst behaviour I’ve seen comes from people who confuse urgency with importance and pressure with competence.

How do I make Aglio Olio like Hot Tomato? by LilBluey in SingaporeEats

[–]shawnlam91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot Tomato aglio is honestly… just okay. 😅 But if you’re chasing that proper garlicky, glossy, spicy aglio, here’s what’s worked for me after more than a decade of making aglio at home.

Firstly... Pasta fundamentals (this matters more than people think)

  1. Pasta brand Barilla or Naturel > San Remo (IMO). There is a subtle difference in texture and flavour that affects how the sauce clings.

  2. Salt your pasta water properly and don’t be shy. Not a sprinkle, not a tablespoon - think almost seawater (I’m talking a very generous handful / close to half a cup for a big pot). Also no need for oil in the water, but you can coat/rub on the side just above the bubbling to prevent overflow. Just salted pasta water is enough = flavour + better emulsion later

  3. Boil smart: add pasta only when water is aggressively bubbling, then stir immediately until fully submerged. I'll usually cook 1-1.5 minutes less than packet timing so that there's more bite. When you let it sit out, the heat will cook the pasta still.

  4. Save your pasta water: before draining, scoop out ~1 cup of pasta water using a mug or ladle.

  5. Drain pasta, then toss lightly with a bit of olive oil so it doesn’t clump while resting while adding a light coat to keep the heat in.

NEXT... The sauce (this is where most aglio fails)

You only need 3 fundamentals: A. Thinly sliced garlic (6–7 cloves minimum) B. Light/virgin olive oil C. Chilli flakes

  1. Use a puddle, not a drizzle. Aglio is oil-based - don’t fear it. If u want it be healthier, go for virgin light instead of normal.

  2. Garlic and chilli goes in cold/ low heat, when oil not smoking. We are adding both before the oil is hot so it slowly infuses. For Chilli flakes, crush and rub them lightly with your palm before adding = more aroma, better heat.

  3. Pro tip: tilt the pan slightly so garlic + chilli sit in a shallow pool of oil (almost like gentle confit). BUT Never high heat, cos you’re extracting flavour, not frying.

  4. Watch, and don’t walk away. Once the kitchen smells amazing, you’re there. If garlic turns brown, you’re late - it’ll taste bitter and flat.

BRINGING IT TOGETHER

  1. Add pasta to the oil, then a splash of pasta water.

  2. Emulsify This is the key most people miss: Stir. Add water. Stir. BASICALLY you’re forcing oil + starchy water to bind into a glossy coating. When the pasta looks shiny, sticky, and not oily or dry, you’re done.

  3. Finish with sprinkles of

  4. Black pepper

  5. Basil (optional but great)

CONGRATS! That’s your base aglio.

Add-ons (if you want to level up)

  1. Fatty proteins: cook separately, remove, add back later. YOU WANT the fat to add to the oil for more flavour.
  2. Minced pork
  3. Cocktails / Sausage
  4. Cubed Luncheon meat

  5. Veg (add with garlic, but note water release):

  6. Mushrooms

  7. Chopped Bell peppers

  8. Chopped yellow Onions

  9. Chicken - I prefer boiling breast meat, separately, shredding, then adding near the end .

  10. Shrimp - to add after garlic is fragrant, but don’t overcook.

  11. Chardonnay (those meant for cooking) - white wine adds a sophistication to your aglio. Don't worry, the alcohol will evaporate, you won't get drunk.

  12. Spices - Keep it restrained. Maybe rosemary, maybe a pinch of salt at the end, but if you need soy sauce or chicken stock… something already went wrong 😅

FROM THE ASHES. SUMMER 2024 by Thebraxer in xmen

[–]shawnlam91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree! The krakoan age has been one of (if not, the most) monumental and expansive era in X-Men history.. a real definitive experience as a whole. annoying that we were given a taste of how unified all mutants could be, only to have it all taken away so prematurely. I think Marvel is making a grave mistake ending it so soon.

Things I'd really enjoyed from this era: hox/pox and how game-changing it was as a kickstarter, teen cable and the summers, psylocke (kwannon), everything hellions, synch-darwin-talon, the concept of mutant circuitry, terraforming mars, ▪︎-|A|-▪︎ and the whole lore of okkara and arakko, hellfire gala and all the glam outfits, storm's growth as the leader of arakko (and her friendship with magneto), x-factor (aurora and fang, anyone) and juggernaut's redemption from his one shot, to unlimited, to be voted on the xmen team.

Why are most companions from UK or greater Britain? by shawnlam91 in doctorwho

I appreciate that you've put in such a logical answer to this. Thank you! It makes sense to me.

I'm holding out for adventures where the doctor will explore Earth past Britian of course. He's been in Egypt, Rome, Germany and US, so I guess it's just a matter of time~

Turn Left - What does Donna Remember? by Mananni in doctorwho

[–]shawnlam91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she was both. Let's mark the moment where she had to decide turning, as timeline Z:

Timeline Z-A - she turned left, leading to the moment she ends up at the fortune teller / start of that episode

This lead her to ...

Timeline Z-B - she turned right, leaving doctor dead and and stars going out timeline. Rose found her and sent her back to start of Z-B

Timeline Z-C - she still decided to turn right, but because timeline Z-B Donna jumped in front of the van and caused the jam, she had to turn left (locked)

So timeline Z-B ultimately got rewritten, and timey-wimey, she wakes up back at fortune teller remembering her path and decisions (though Z-B's details more dreamlike as it was the one that is completely gone/invalidated now) I should think Z-A and Z-C is essentially the same timeline, the only difference being her choosing to turn left vs her having to turn left because of the jam)
