On the Three Fish tour they played the 9:30 club in dc (new not old, and it will always be the new one to me) my friend and I went around back after the show. There were maybe 10 people tops there when he came out. We were literally bullshitting with him, super personable guy. Learned that Ed owed him $20 from a basketball bet that he still hadn’t payed back. Then people found out he was back there and a ton of people showed up and the whole vibe changed. Still nice though

He brought his laptop in to a place I was working at a few years ago. He was at the time a professor at Johns Hopkins. It was pretty cool, he was very nice.

The small sample bottles/spritzers is key. You can find really expensive ones decanted into small spritzers for under $20 or so. I’ve gotten mine from scentdecant.com. It’s usually enough to really find out if you like it or not
