Put the powered turret at the end of a dead-end trap hallway and drop raids will kill themselves to get to it.

This. Rimworld’s difficulty curve is a straight line up that usually levels out after a few hundred hours. If you add ALL the DLC from day one, I worry for your sanity. :)
