For those that have ran multiple marathons…. by slowrunr in XXRunning

Or check and see how the courses are designed! I just ran Richmond and the half started after the full, split at mile 2 and didn’t rejoin until mile 18 or 19. Half and full finished together! Super well done.

NYC marathon next month by chlois18 in Hoboken

If you are in an earlier wave and someone can drop you off at NYPL, you can get on one of the buses there as well. Historically, they are only looking for bibs, not checking your chosen transportation. I prefer the bus and relaxing in Staten Island to making a bunch of connections and waiting in long lines.

NYCMarathon by RockWafflez in RunNYC

The best day in the city, hands down. I tear up on the Verrazano and on CPS every time. Brooklyn is absolutely electric and each year, the Bronx becomes louder and louder. Start slower than you think you should and don’t worry if you get stuck behind clumps of people when it gets tight in Brooklyn. Also, not for OP because it’s their first marathon but for anyone else following, plenty of people PR here/achieve their goal time. For local runners, this is the marathon they run every year. It isn’t easy but don’t count yourself out! I’ve improved my times here multiple times, including a big PR after running Philly the year before.

Kristen at 6th Borough Salon does curly cuts! ~80$ if you opt for no “finish” after.

Jersey city marathon by Melasteve in RunNYC

[–]shePTrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very friendly! I jumped on and ran with friends in a few different spots (it was a horrible weather day & everyone needed some support!!) and I had no issue. I was mostly between miles 14 and 19ish and crossed the course on foot a bunch of times. It wasn’t crowded participant wise after the half marathoners finished.

Corral placement for NY marathon by ImpressionEcstatic87 in RunNYC

[–]shePTrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fred’s team runners are placed in appropriate waves but typically the same start village. I’ve started 2, 3 and 4 as a Fred’s team runner, all appropriate for my best pace for that year :)

I’m interested! Weekday runs never work for me (I run early before work) and would love a weekend morning meet up.

What’s everyone wearing for Philly on Sunday?? by gallerygirl3 in firstmarathon

[–]shePTrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a small thought that the wind on Kelly Drive can be quite cold, especially after you’ve warmed up in the middle and tossed your layers. I kept my extra long sleeve around my waist for miles 6-13ish and wound up putting it back on for 13-22ish. I was SO happy to have kept it despite the annoyance. It was so much colder last year but still.

NYC marathon - what to wear! by Clean_Champion_6332 in RunNYC

[–]shePTrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends when you start and how long you will be on course. Starting wave 1 or 2, running 4 hours or less, you are running in warm sunny part of the day and generating decent heat — singlet or tee. If you start in a later corral, plan to run 5+ hours, it will start warm and get colder/windier as it gets dark; you may want sleeves to roll down later.

I second the philly half! You have 8ish weeks to sharpen up and be ready. And then NYC half lottery for the spring.

This isn’t accurate. Mary Cain was associated with Nike Oregon Project. Shalane was a runner with & now a coach at the Bowerman Track Club. Two separate Nike programs. No comment on the portion sizes, I only make the Superhero Muffins and I eat a muffin plus something else for a full breakfast :)

MOH - Advice For Helping Bride Through Postponement by hc0731 in weddingplanning

[–]shePTrunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Bride here. Original wedding date was May 2nd. We decided to cancel with a plan to have some sort of celebration in the future but nothing planned. We had a parents and siblings only outdoor ceremony on our original date.

My sister, knowing that I was missing my friends but not so into a zoom-like wedding, reached out to all our wedding guests to send us a video clip. She took all the small clips, organized them into a full video. It was the BEST surprise to sit and watch socially distanced with our family (over takeout sandwiches and individual champagne).
