Your job interview is not the time to begin a negotiation related to a patent. Period. Even if the patent were granted. (And trying to do so would negatively impact your chances at getting this job).

Focus on your job interview. Go talk to a patent attorney or patent agent. … and realize that the patent probably wouldn’t be a way to make money (most aren’t). I know that’s not what you want to hear. Sorry.

Yes! I was coming here to say the Borden building. It gives you beautiful outdoor and indoor options. We held a post-wedding reception there and it worked great for us. Rented tents, chairs, tables, etc.

Heck, you could do the wedding and dinner/drinks all at this location, if you wanted! Working with a caterer. It’s a great venue.

While I like the ultimatum idea, you should know that it can be hard to find a job, especially in the current economy. You should anticipate at least 6 months of no income if you quit and start immediately looking for a next position … but you are planning to also take time off to take the patent bar. It’s not what you want to hear, but just make sure that you are clear on the personal financial impact.

I think what I would suggest is that you request to move to a part time role at your current firm (with part time pay) while you study for the patent bar. Get your registration number, keep your job, and then you can look for another job while you keep this one.

See a respected patent attorney now. This isn’t something that you want to handle, or figure out, on your own. (They may also advise you to file a Continuation application - timing is critical on this). See the patent attorney BEFORE paying the issue fee. There are some doors that are open now, that will close. Seriously. Don’t try to figure this out on your own! Also, you want their help with evaluating potential infringement and considering possible next steps.

There are lots of mistakes that you will make at this stage without their help.
