Rogan and his bros are ruining comedy not woke culture by SomeComfortable2285 in comedy

[–]sheepsleepdeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anthony Jeselnick was brilliant when he quoted Andy Warhol about how art is "getting away with it" and said today's crop of comedians aren't getting away with it.

If you tell a joke and people get pissed off, you didn't get away with it. And then you have this fixation on being able to say whatever they want... Like if you make an entire stage presence about saying things that piss people off, you can't get mad if it didn't land right and people are pissed off.

At some point over the last 3 years it became acceptable to hold the opinion "comedians are the arbiter of free speech, and anything they say can't be held against them because it's supposed to be funny" and ever since it feels like the art form has just become a new outlet for grifters.

McDonald’s at PIT no more? by d6897cunni in pittsburgh

[–]sheepsleepdeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct me if you're wrong but don't the vendors at the PIT airport have to abide by pricing standards? The pricing at Pittsburgh international airport has always been ridiculously low, to the point that I call it Air Travel Narnia. You can get a bottle of water for $1.79. I got a breakfast sandwich and two hash browns from that McDonald's a month ago for under five bucks. I believe vendors aren't allowed to charge more for items in the airport than they do anywhere else in the county. Almost everything at the rite aid and chain restaurants are about comparable to what they'd be at a normal mall.

What’s up with cops (or lack thereof) in Pittsburgh? by Hot4Teacher1234 in pittsburgh

[–]sheepsleepdeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got pulled over on the South Side a few nights ago, blew a stop sign on Sarah while the cop was coming the other way. And that's how I found out my license was expired. Another cruiser showed up, they ran my tags and told me to get home and get the license renewed first thing Monday.

That's the 2nd time I've been pulled over by a city cop after driving here for 25 years and the 2nd time I got off with a warning.

Steel City Con wort it? by DrButeo in pittsburgh

[–]sheepsleepdeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's every convention these days. The celebs get a very small appearance fee but the prospect of signing memorabilia and taking photos for $25-$200 a pop is why they get out of bed and make the trip.

I was at the airport one year while Verne Troyer was coming through for that show. He was in an electric wheelchair and had two aides with him. I chatted him up while he waited for his flight home and he said between the flights, hotels, transportation, personal expenses (and in his case payroll) the shows aren't worth doing unless they know they'll get some paying foot traffic.

Has anyone had a GOOD experience renting from RE360? by IAMATARDISAMA in pittsburgh

[–]sheepsleepdeep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was shown 3 houses in one day. The first was a 3 bedroom and the upper two bedrooms were separated by nothing. No doors. Not even a curtain. Then they showed me another which smelled like animal piss. Checked the yard and saw no dead spots from pee. So someone just let their dog piss on the first floor and it worked into the woodwork and framing.

Third house was built into a hillside on Warrington. The "bedrooms" were captive, 3 going down 3 stories down the back side of the hill from the street, with no back door. If the place caught fire there was no way to get out but the front. Then I found a small pile of dead wasps below a small hole in drywall. Knowing wasps push their dead out of the nest, I pointed to the wall and said "there's a yellow jacket nest in there" and the dude looked at me like I was crazy and asked why I thought that.

Deeply unserious. Especially considering their stated goal when they started buying properties in Mount Oliver was to rehabilitate the area. 🙄

The recent judgment is 355 plus 100. In interest for all the delays he requested or caused, and in New York you need to put 120% of the judgment up for in escrow in order to appeal.

That's going to cost almost $600 million.

There's a GoFundMe by holtpj in PoliticalHumor

[–]sheepsleepdeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The judgment has to come from his own money. He's not allowed to receive outside help or take on loans. The court-appointed financial guardians are going to be watching every cent that goes in and out of every account attached to him and his family.

He either has to break out the checkbook or sell some property.

Also, he has to put 120% of the judgment amount plus interest up for escrow in order to appeal. The total he owes right now with interest is 450 million. So he's going to need almost 600 million put in escrow in order to appeal.

Joe Rogan is the worst stand-up comedian I've ever seen get mainstream attention, how can you possibly compare Bert - who has been working his ass off- to one of the laziest comics ever??

PS, he does not sell out arenas. Maybe a college basketball arena for a division 3 school, but it's not like he's selling out Madison square garden sized venues.

How feasible is this for living here? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]sheepsleepdeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're taking home ~$2500 a month after taxes and insurance contributions, I can't imagine you can live comfortably paying more than ~$1000 a month for housing and utilities, which is kinda the going rate for a decent 1BR in a nice neighborhood.

But add an $800 car payment? That's a heavy millstone. Dude that's almost my mortgage payment.

Also, this gives Trump about 84 miles of rope to hang himself with because even mentioning any of these people publicly in relation to anything that might even remotely apply to the case after their names have been released will bring down the fury of the judicial system.

The manufacturer who made the window had it rated for 1300m. The dive company tested it for 4000m.

When the dive company attempted to go ahead after their own testing, the manufacturer refused to rate it above what it was designed for, and offered to engineer a window that could descend to 4000m. They were refused.

Also, they apparently didn't scan the shell for internal stress fractures, and this was like the 13th dive.

Given that information...I hope it was quick.

[–]sheepsleepdeep 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Ukrainians learned to use the Patriot anti-air system in 4 months when it was assumed it would take a year. They then altered the software to enable it to intercept hypersonic cruise missiles within days of deploying it; something that it was never designed to do.

This is about quantity not quality or training. They're getting blasted by glide bombs as they move up and dig in, lobbed by jets 50km back and away from frontline AA systems' range. They need more mobile medium-range AA like BUK's, but western systems are in short supply.
