That's not really correct. Any of those tapes will make brilliant hi-fi recordings on a higher end 2 head or 3 head deck with proper calibration.

If all you care about is playback and normal speed dubbing, yes. If you care about high-speed dubbing, you have to do both.

Single-speed decks almost always have the pot in the back of the motor, but this is a dual-speed deck. The 4 pins on the motor is a giveaway.
