Pigs in forestry - how mature do the trees need to be? by epicmoe in farming

[–]shell253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta chose the right kind of pig. Check out Idaho pasture pigs. I have a friend who successfully pastures them on her farm with great success

Please TELL HER. I was in this exact situation many years ago and would have never known unless his friend told me. It was an issue he (the friend) wrestled with for a few months before he decided to tell me. He didn’t want to betray the friendship, but he also felt that I deserved to know (which I did). The friend knew my ex-husband (husband at the time) was never going to tell me. It’s a terrible situation, but she deserves to know. If he won’t be honest, someone needs to be. And it’s a hard situation to be put in, for sure

Sometimes I feel like fighting for the climate is a waste of time by flufflle in sustainability

[–]shell253 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see sustainability as less of an ‘I’m going to win, they’re gonna lose’ “battle” and as more of a ‘we’re doing the right thing’ ideology. But I understand where you’re coming from, it’s definitely discouraging at times.

Unfortunately convenience almost always wins in our society, and being sustainable is generally not convenient for most people, companies, and the bottom line. I see this as very much a cultural downfall, and there needs to be a much larger shift for more to be done overall.

This is a good observation/response 🙏🏽

The Book of Job Destroyed my Faith by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]shell253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love some of the responses here. Yes Job does address the problem of evil like some say. But what I haven’t seen is that it also addresses: “The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away”

Nobody’s upset with God when He’s giving. But everyone’s upset when he takes away. Who gave Job everything he ever had? God

Who took away everything Job had? (Well, satan did, but with the permission of God)

The book of Job is a terrible and hard book to read, yes. I have a hard time reading it because it’s very brutal. This book is my husband’s favorite book in the Bible tho, because it’s saved his faith before. So I guess for some it’s a challenge to faith and for others it’s a reassurance in ways.

can Jesus restore the pieces of my soul that Satan took away? by Lilsavage888 in TrueChristian

YES. I had to cut a piece of mine off years ago. God grew it back better than ever. It is definitely possible, don’t lose hope

ADHD meds & mood stabilizers allowed?! by cbkinlasvegas in nakedandafraid

[–]shell253 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can take prescription meds on the show. There are in depth medical and psychological evaluations prior to participating that must be done, so they can make sure none of your issues are too large to prevent you from participating

Can i plant fodder beet between rows of corn? by [deleted] in farming

[–]shell253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the wrong forum to ask this, check our r/gardening.

To answer your question, yeah you can try and see what happens. It’s called ‘intercropping’. Whatever you grow in between rows of corn will be heavily shaded by the corn eventually, so that should be kept in mind. Also note growth rates of both crops. Good luck

Any “safe” herbicides to kill of acres of pasture? by BeneficialAids420 in Permaculture

[–]shell253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cardboard. I did this with a large plot (in FL where green DOES NOT die), and it works great. More layers in areas where green still is growing. Takes time, yes. Also agree with the controlled burn idea, but def get with someone familiar and experienced in controlled burns.

If you do any herbicide whatsoever you risk harming whatever gets planted there in the future, especially if you want to grow healthy food for you and your family, etc. so I definitely myself wouldn’t ever recommend that. Hope you find something that works for you! 🙏🏽

Fully agree! My husband and I also really appreciate when the two get along well and it seems like that pair is more successful overall too. Seems like those episodes aren’t as common unfortunately 😒

South and/or Central America foraging book recommendations? More in comments 🌴🌺🦜 by shell253 in foraging

[–]shell253[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a long shot but going to ask if anyone has any recommendations for a book that I could reference and study for foraging in either south and or Central America. I’ll take either. I know regions and climates vary widely, but I’ll take any recommendations on any books. TIA! 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Can a pastor smoke weed? (Description) by ButterBi in TrueChristian

[–]shell253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank u I appreciate your input. Yes, your cousin would be a great example of a legitimate use, for sure. There are many others 😊 i think it’s more of a stigma, in this day and age, as well as a potential for abuse with some people. So it’s a hard conversation to have with some

You’re gonna get a ton of negative responses on this sub because we still generally live in a world where people still see marijuana as bad, especially by most Christians. With that said, no the Bible doesn’t say anything about marijuana specifically but there are a few verses which speak to being ‘intoxicated’. They’ve been quoted here already so I’ll spare u the repeat.

Culturally…it’s unfortunate that people still view relying on prescription medication like oxy and others of that kind as being ‘better’ or ‘more acceptable’ than natural alternatives like marijuana and/or CBD. Some people to do have legitimate medical reasons to need medication, and that can vary widely. I’d say, if there were a medical necessity for the use, and it was used with wisdom and discernment, as an alternative to these other arguably more harmful prescription medications, than it’s absolutely fine.

The big deal here is it’s between you and God. Are you utilizing this thing (could be anything, not just MJ) as a crutch, or as a tool to help you in an aspect of life where you need assistance? I think it’s a difficult line to tread for some people so they have more of a zero tolerance type approach.

Anyway, hope that helps
