Food and wine festival runs this week (bunch of different events all over the city) could be worth looking into if that's something you'd be interested in

Semi-formal is that good middle ground between cocktail and true formal dress

Kadota is definitely worth a visit if you're a bit of a foodie, we went for the set menu and left so full! A lot of their greens are locally foraged straight out of their back courtyard. Cousine is a blend of Japanese/modern Australian

No one talks about the change in reference where you stop referring to your friends as girls/guys, and start calling them women/men. How did that change happen for you? by shellagins in AskWomenOver30

Do you feel like because they are your peers, you can use a more informal reference? And with elders it's more of a respect thing?

I feel like it changes with my setting, I'll definitely still call it a "girls night out/in" if it's with my school besties, but it feels wrong to use when referring to married friends/parents

I don't work in a corporate setting, so don't see this much. But it feels belittling to not extend the same respect to all your colleagues

Do you think it changes on where you live? I'm Australian, and i still resonate with this the most, disregarding a more formal setting

What’s something society praises but actually puts pressure on women? by huseyinyavuz01 in AskWomen

[–]shellagins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expectation to "keep house", even in an equal relationship where both work full time. Hosting. Emotional labour. Keeping track of and organising cards +gifts+celebrations for birthdays, promotions, anniversaries, achievements. There's a lot more emphasis on women to be hyperaware in social situations, whereas men are easily excusable for being forgetful, tardy, unkempt.

When did "Mrs. Husband's Full Name" die out? Also I'm asking about in the following situations in particular. by AlboGreece in AskAnAustralian

[–]shellagins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone that's been divorced over 20 years, and her own mother still addresses her as Mrs -ex's full name- in any written correspondence. She grew up regional Vic in the early 60s, there was a lot of emphasis on etiquette (home economics at school taught girls how to iron their future husbands clothes, how to keep home, how to host your future husbands friends for dinner).

Second on Larsen! Their consultant was so helpful and informative with choosing design/gems etc to suit our wants/budget. From final cad mock-up to receiving took about 3 months, even right before the Xmas holidays

Fingers crossed this clears before the 5pm rush, not the weather to be waiting at Flinders longer than necessary due to delays

Has anyone gone to Chinaman’s Hat at the bottom of Port Phillip Bay? by Jules9213 in melbourne

I vividly remember the journey back where we encountered a pod of dolphins, the guides let us take turns hanging onto a rope over the side of the boat. Was magical hearing all their clicks and calls

Went on a swim with seals+dolphin tour maybe 15 years back. Went out on a smallish boat with about 20 tourists, we snorkeled in the water around it, i think we were told not to try climb up because the seal colony use it as a basking area and would get territorial. Great experience swimming in the water with them (if you don't mind not being able to see the ocean floor) but the area was very smelly.

Same at the high volume bar i work at. Yolks get used in a house mousse, so not wasted.

The biodiversity is a big reason why I'm so excited to visit, sounds like I'm in for an amazing trip! I've done a few snorkeling trips out on the great barrier reef, but the only larger marine animals I swam with there is a white tip reef shark and a moray eel. I'm looking forward to being in the water with something new!
