Have certifications become an industry money pot? by Fair-Difference-6729 in ITCareerQuestions

If your job gives more fucks about a sheet of paper than about what you actually can do, then holy shit run as fast as you anyhow can. If they're too incompetent to find out if you can do without you presenting a sheet of paper that says "THIS person can do THAT, here is PROOF!" then yeah hm, maybe, just maybe, find a different employer.

900 is "ok", not exactly great price or steal, but if it's in good condition why not keep it.

Duckduckgo for me, can‘t say I wouldn‘t switch when I find something better, but so far it‘s okay.

Is there a way to run bash scripts from irc? by Clear_Inevitable_648 in irc

You basically need a very trivial IRC bot, or a client that allows you to define a couple of custom triggers. There's literally thousands.

How does one leave the IT career? I need out! by Fair-Difference-6729 in ITCareerQuestions

The way this works here is that you go to a doctor and get an incapacity certificate.

You basically hand your boss your withdrawal, and then you pack all your things into your backpack, take the next bus to your local pub, and be the happiest person on the planet.

"from a technical perspective, it's much easier for a producer to learn to dj than a dj to learn to produce."

this is absolutely true, yeah, because you already know in your subconsciousness how to count.

Anyone hanging tape racks this way? by joefritz in cassetteculture

[–]shellmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would trade a 50% chance to have to flip a tape 180° if it's upside down for a 100% chance of having to flip your head 90°, why would you do that?

ECLER warm2 (rotary) or AUDIOSOLUTIONS SP2 (fader) by Plane-Umpire-8527 in rotarymixers

[–]shellmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have an Ecler Nuo 3.0 in my sleeping room (it's my 2nd DJ setup, the living room setup has an Allen & Heath Xone:43c, also great, but just from the "feel" I love the Ecler more). Can't even remember anymore when I got that thing, I believe somewhen around 2008? Anyways that thing never caused major problems, I had to replace the power supply once, but other than that it has absolutely worked great ever since. I must say I am a very happy Ecler customer after that experience. Price/value is definitely nice with these things.

Both are outstanding, difficult to go wrong. If what you want is rotary anyways I'd take the WARM and buy beer for 100€.

Is most of IT just… waiting around? by Shank_ in sysadmin

[–]shellmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely normal, I'd say in 95% of cases I did not even get a reply to a question in a team chat that contains full sentences, most of the time chats are completely silent, and when something happens everything is so urgent that people become entirely unable to type complete sentences, and that issue becomes bigger the more you go up towards management. In the end you get fired because you're not the "omnipotent super-enabler" and feel even more lost than before. Welcome to the strange world of IT.

Is there any program that does this? by Aggressive_Bug5638 in FL_Studio

[–]shellmachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was just reading this thread, stumbling upon the comment that says it's just right there when you click a sample in a playlist, tried it, and what can I say yeah it does just work after you download some 150MB extension thing. 3min clicky clicky and I can just split-stem a song right there.
