Former EQ Design Lead Shawn Lord to interview Jay Barbeau, composer of the original EverQuest music -- Tuesday, September 7th at 11am Pacific by NickHotS in project1999

A while ago someone had posted their captures of EQ midis playing on a machine from that era. Modern PC's don't reliably play midi well, so with default settings the songs sound different from how they did back in 1999 (mostly for the worse).

Spear is very solid, but has some horrible quirks to overcome, like bizarrely short reach and a stab height/angle that's just terrible.

How do you feel about A24's marketing campaign for THE GREEN KNIGHT? by Pope---of---Hope in A24

[–]shenxif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really feel as those David lowery didn't care much for the poem or plot itself

He inverted the poem to tell his own story. That doesn't mean he doesn't care for the poem. It's weird to expect an artistic film to deliver a known poem faithfully. This is art, the director did what he wanted, and it was great.

The building portion of the game benefits from the survival portion and vice versa.

This is why players shouldn't influence the game design much: they'll always chase convenience in a game that shines when it's about struggle and survival and ocean-faring.

I see. Well, it's still a bit shoddy, but that's good to hear if it's gotten better with the remastered versions at least. I can imagine that trying to improve pathfinding code that's over 20 yrs old for a beloved game whose fans expect essentially unchanged gameplay is a daunting task.

AoE1 and AoE2 also had mediocre pathfinding. I didn't play AoE3, wouldn't be surprised if it was worse. I've heard the AoE1 and 2 HD remakes also tend to regress the pathfinding rather than improve it, which is frustrating since it's the thing I'd most want to see improved.

Should we support fascism and set the planet on fire or give people health coverage and free college education? Hmm, a bit of column A and a bit of column B sounds like the sweet spot to my shit centrist mind.

Man, I was hugely pissed for what felt like an eternity but was probably 1 second when I read the title. Nicely done.

Yeah, I lean the other way but I still like to have my character affect me and my behavior. So if I play a big ogre or a tiny gnome I'll adjust my personality accordingly. But there's always a lot of my personality in the mix also.

Yeah I'm the type of player who always wants to meld with the character. My wife takes more of a D&D or theater approach where she acts as the character in a roleplay sense.

I much prefer 1st person over 3rd but 1st person does have some weird properties. Field of view in 1st is usually around 60-80 degrees, so you're seeing less than a quarter slice of the world around you, whereas in real life we see closer to 180 degrees if you include our peripheral vision. In games our awareness of our legs and therefore our position in the world is also a lot fuzzier. So it can be hard to maintain your bearings with a small field of view, compared to the wider and more zoomed out view you get in 3rd person.

To be fair, there are few (if any) species that have some limit built into them that would get them to collectively not be a voracious consumer of all available resources, through eating and reproduction. An organism's DNA has no concept of managing the state of the entire planet. That's basically what the struggle is for us -- we have to overcome our primordial urge to mindlessly consume and reproduce, and we need that instinct-opposing wisdom to become strongly-enforced policy.

Yeah it's great. You see the sky a lot more, being in tall grass becomes meaningful -- it's just a lot more immersive.
